The filters that come with it are heavier than the standard paper ones. Does anyone know where to purchase them?

Our filters are custom produced for this percolator. There are probably similar filters on the market somewhere, we just do not know where. I apologize. In the near future, Coletti will offer replacement filters for sale on Amazon.

Does it stop percolating when done or do you gauge it yourself by turning off heat?

We at Coletti believe there is something meaningful in crafting your own coffee - from start to finish. This is a manual non-electric stove top percolator. Once it begins to perk (you will see coffee splash up into the glass top) most people allow it to brew for 4-7 minutes before serving. It also comes with instructions.

Can you use it just boil water when camping?

I haven’t done this but it is used to boil water, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work without the coffee grounds to just boil water. I say yes, you can.

How do you use this when your camping (on a campfire) if the handle is made of wood?

Wrap the wood with aluminum foil. It should be okay. And, of course you don't want high flames. This should be set on the edge of the grate so as to have an easy perk.
