HP Instant Ink service is fantastic - GET 3 extra months free (7 months in total) with these codes!!
The printer is very neat, and hooked up to my wifi with no problems. I was very impressed with the quality of the printing - even though it is a pretty cheap printer, it prints photos on photo paper which look pretty professional (certainly good enough for a photo frame when done on glossy photo paper - which has its own seperate convenient tray. It comes with 4 month free HP Instant Ink trial - which you should definitely do, but you can extend it to 7 months free ink with the following codes. 1st enter my refer a friend code for an extra month (I get an extra month too) lJm2m and then get an extra 2 months with the code 2MONTHSDJUK . They do all work together if you do them in that order. Having used HP Instant Ink for many months now I thought I would share my thoughts on the service. Initially I was very sceptical of a system whereby the printer automatically reorders ink for you. What I didn't realise is how it has transformed how we use the printer as a family (2 adults, and children aged 16 and 11 with lots of school projects/homework). It really does take the worry out of ink costs, as a full colour high quality page cost just the same as a draft black and white page - and with the online system it is very easy to keep track of how much we are using. I am currently on the 300 pages per month tariff of £7.99 - which works out at £96 a year. That may sound a lot but looking at my Amazon purchase history for ink with my old printer I was spending rough £60 a year on ink and using it like a miser - I was constantly astonished how quickly ink would run out even with virtually all printing being on low quality/B&W settings. Whilst we are paying more now we all can feel free to use the printer as much as we like, and I work from home a lot and also am involved in a charity which requires quite a lot of printing. Photos print fantastically as well (I have the HP ENVY Photo 6230 - which only cost c. £50 and the quality is brilliant). The cartridges come in plenty of time and it is amazing how long they last between changes - which was also a lot of hassle under the old system as even buying genuine cartridges the printer often refused to recognised the cartridges. So I am a complete convert to HP Instant Ink - so if you have just bought a printer with the free ink trial definitely use your code, then use my refer a friend code for another month free: lJm2m And then use 2MONTHSDJUK to get another 2 months free. Opt for the maximum package (300 pages) on your trial - but put in your diary the end of the trial - then look back on your usage on the HP website and work out which package works best for you. The fact that unused pages carry over is also great because you find that if you have been on holiday and had a light month, you get a bigger buffer of usage going forwards.

*edit* 50 sheet instant plan now %100 more expensive
Edit, August 2024 From £1.99 for 50 sheets it's gone up to £3.99 so with printing less and the 10 sheet a month plan still £1.99, I've cancelled my plan... The ink in it and the 2 new ones they sent will be bricked this month when my subscription stops. I'll look for alternatives of either HP branded or 3rd Party when I've researched the reviews. Had this since 2017 and not skipped a beat. It's wi-fi so you can either print from the memory card slot, usb stick, email the device or direct print from your smartphone or pc/mac. my partner, who's not a techy, loves using Google Keep Notes and now sends her shopping list from the App wirelessly to it. i use it for printing rotas at work, plus printing presents for family, maps for visitors, instruction manuals for tech, paperwork for buying leave at work, collages... all manner of hard-copies. i mainly either send documents via email, or direct from my smartphone the "print" option is easy with the HP Smart app to pick the orientation, quality and if colour etc. i used to get frustrated with sending jpg files wanting them on A4 and it would always default to the 5x7 glossy photo paper tray, now with the app you can see it'll got via A4. use standard 80 gsm but you can easily upgrade for smarter reproductions. scanning is made much easier if you've lots to do - feeder just keeps pulling each sheet in, or singles can be your preferred method. you can output it to the SD card, or usb or email it or put it directly into Dropbox or Google drive... need to explore OneDrive now that i've ditched Dropbox for only giving 2GB on their free plan, I've 25GB but i can't be bothered boosting my partner's up from that with the referral scheme inventing lots of Gmail accounts!!! being used to lightning fast response of smartphones, the only downsides i see are the slightly slow touchscreen, it has 256MB of DDR3 RAM but you can't expect iPhone buttery smooth speed... i don't mind, if i needed that level of quality, i'd be spending hundreds and not £75 - discounted from £150 on the black friday deal. superbly reliable and has survived a few house moves too.... kept original packaging. you can obviously copy and fax too, but less common, although making quick copies of driving licences or other important documents has been handy. quality workhorse with features to burn.

Not as bad to setup as I feared
I feared the worst after reading the reviews, but it turned out tricky to setup, but not impossible. The instructions are basic, but don't cover all scenarios. The app took a good 20mins to find the printer, whereas my laptop found it immediately. There was a lot of spinning, with a blank white screen. Opted for manual setup on the printer, and that sorted it. Neither the app nor the windows 10 installation made any reference to installing the ink cartridges, it just seems pretty obvious. Every wireless printer I've owned in the last 10 years has been pretty awful to setup, this was no worse. It's not a 'huge beast' as mentioned elsewhere, in fact it's smaller than my previous Canon pixma that refused to print black. I ended up with two installations of HP Smart on my laptop, neither which printed Excel, but worked fine when I went into excel to print. The quality is acceptable, and the print speed adequate. It also took card at 210gsm, which I liked. I kept getting the 'out of paper' error message in HP Smart, but it still prints anyway, and if you push the paper further into the tray, the error message goes away. The wireless signal has been found even after turning the printer off/on a few times. Summary Not perfect, but about as problematic as anything technical these days, quite frankly things were easier with USB and Plugn Play. The ink saving scheme seems okay, reasonably priced. Fast delivery, and I didn't have to hit it with a hammer (yet)

Great quality prints and cheap to run. Get SIX months free ink too!
First, let me say this is a review of the HP Envy Photo 7830 printer. I say this because some of the reviews appear to be for other printers. This review was updated after using it for 10 months. It has been 100% reliable, has used very little ink (I'm still on the first set of top-up cartridges!) and the family are able to easily use it too from iPhone/iPad. It has a reasonably small footprint so doesn't take up much desk space, but it is quite tall because of the scanner feeder on top. I'm a professional photographer but I bought this printer to replace a Canon Photo printer that was used for A4 photo proofs and for general office and by my kids for printing homework. This printer is a great replacement, producing great quality pages with text and graphics, as well as full page photos. It's also much quicker than the old printer, and it has two paper trays - one for A4 paper and one for smaller photo paper. The best bit is the price of the printing! HP send you ink by post just before it runs out (HP monitor the ink usage over the internet). The lowest price plan works great, and I print a reasonable number of prints. This is a revelation for me, because I'm used to paying £30 a time for cartridges. For 6 months free ink, you switch on your printer, connect it to the internet and then print out a sheet that shows the printers unique 'printer code'. You then enter this at (hpinstantink.com). You need to enter PayPal or bank card details but it won't use these until the free offer ends. You'll automatically be given 4 months free, if you then enter "mjv9fc" you'll get another month free. Finally, you can use the code 'FREEINK' for another month! That's a total of 6 months!

Good, simple to use printer
Printers have come a long way from the last one we purchased over 15 years ago. We love that we can connect to this printer via a phone app, or, by simply connecting to it via WiFi. We print from Samsung tablets, Samsung phones, ipads and all connect magically without issue. The app from the play store is really useful when wanting to scan documents. My wife has signed up to HP's printing service, for a really low monthly price, replacement ink cartridges are automatically sent in the post without having to order them. When looking at the cost of this service versus buying them ourselves, the HP ink cartridge service is at least 50% cheaper, without the hassle of remembering to order the cartridges ourselves. Also, HP send a plastic bag to post back the old ink cartridges for free, which they recycle. We absolutely love that HP does this. Print quality is fine for our use case. Our kids use it to print off their homework and the text is crisp. With regards to printing photos we have no complaints. Smaller sized photos print with good enough quality. If we wanted higher quality we would still use online print services, because it's unrealistic to expect a printer like this to compete with a professional printing service. We would definitely purchase another HP printer again.

A Saint and a Sinner. Amended to SINNER on 27th January 2018
I wrote this review on about 21st January. However, after a complete and total screw up by HP I have decided to rewrite part of it so, read the end part of this review. I have given this printer 5 stars for its ease of installation and print quality but, I wouldn't give the Support function any stars at all. Here is why. The printer itself was the easiest job of printer installation that I have ever had and I was elated. For the various different types of printing that I perform this printer is so easy to set up for the best results. Print quality is superb, even for quickly produced reports printing at 300 dpi the print is crisp and clear. The printer arrived on Saturday 20th January and I had a very important document to print. Typical of all printer manufacturers, the ink cartridges supplied in the box were under filled and as a result I ran out. However, I had signed up for the "Instant Ink" scheme at £7.99/month so, although it was very inconvenient the printer itself would order more ink for me automatically. And so, I signed on at the HP site for my "Instant Ink" details and was informed that No Instant Ink had been installed and to do so immediately. I didn't have any ink to continue my important job and the Support Site, apart from being as clear and a bottle of chips, was of absolutely no Support whatsoever. By this time, much as I loved the HP 7130 printer, I was beginning deeply regretted ordering one. The next step came today, January 22nd 2018 when I signed on to HP's Support site YET AGAIN. More total confusion followed as I tried to make headway, but to no avail. For the second time this weekend I tried to use their "Virtual Agent". I posed the question and, after both attempts, received an answer to a completely irrelevant question followed by an electronic admission of error. By now I was ready to thrown the darned printer out of the window but gave it one more try. Eureka!!!! I had found the Telephone Number for Support. I have to say that each time I changed page on the Support Site I had to sign in again, and sometimes my details would be completely ignored by HP leaving me really, really ANGRY! But, I did manage to get through to a chap called Michael who unfortunately became the focus of my utter frustration with HP. I became even more angry with HP when he informed me that it was 10 working days before I would get my 1st batch of "Instant Inks" which were the Welcome Pack. It appeared to me that the use of the word "Instant" as a description of their service was about as poor a descriptive choice as one could get and I told Michael that had I known that this so-called "Instant Ink" was better described as "Snail Speed Ink" I would not have bought the HP 7130. Michael did a good job within the constraints set him and he offered to send me out a set of inks as soon as their bureaucracy allowed - 7 days. I was unfair to Michael in that he had to take my wrath on the chin, in the place of HP but this was a ridiculous position. However, I accepted and I apologised to Michael for my incredulity. To put all this another way; if you are looking for a printer that is exceptionally easy to install and one which provides among the best quality print I have seen and, you are not looking to print 200+ pages once it is all connected up then, the HP Envy Photo 7130 printer is just the job for you. However, if like me, one printer has just died and you have a large print job to complete then don't even think of this printer because if you run out of ink on the first day, as I did, it may well be 10 working days before your "Instant Ink" welcome pack arrives. One other mention of how "Instant Ink" works, perhaps "works" is another poor choice of word, is that the ink cartridges are monitored and when one or both gets down to 15% capacity the printer automatically contacts HP and orders more ink over the Internet. This order will arrive at your door within I think 7 working days. Provided you are not printing massive amounts on a daily basis you should not run out of ink. I am 72 years of age, have arthritis in most of my joints and so cannot cross my fingers for very long, if at all. I shall put my fairness hat on now; I feel sure that this initial problem will quickly fade over time and I think I will be even more delighted with the quality of print. One thing I forgot to mention; this printer prefers to work with wi-fi and it sets this up automatically and with great easy on your part. This is my rewritten review of 27th January 2018. I have been waiting desperately to get ink for this printer via the so-called "Instant Ink" service. It arrived today after a week of waiting and then, after unpacking it, I found that HP in the crass stupidity had sent me completely the wrong ink cartridge. In addition, I was expecting 2 cartridges as the under-filled cartridge was probably not far off emptying. How in H*LL can HP call this travesty of a service "Instant Ink" when, by their own Support guys admission it takes up to 10 days for ink to reach the customer. This crass stupidity has caused me a great deal of difficulty, never mind the disappointment and so I asked Amazon for a return which happily they granted. The support one gets at Amazon must be the best in the industry and HP could learn a lot from them. I also tried getting support on HP's website again and this was about as successful as shoveling hydrogen gas. HP asked me if I would like to leave them feedback on my "experience" today and boy, did I tell them what I thought of them, and all without the use of foul or abusive language. I might also mention that 3 years ago I bought an HP 8100 printer which was replaced three times before I finally gave up. My Laptop is an HP Envy which I am soon to replace, but not with another HP product, no way will I ever use HP again. Finally, my advice if you require anything in the computer field is to avoid HP.

So far so good
Purchased this printer after our old ‘Photo printer’ packed in. As a family we need a printer suitable for everyday printing for work and school for the kids with the added ability to infrequently print photos. The set up was easy. Found our WiFi instantly and connecting was a breeze, printing from anywhere in the house using numerous devices has so far proved effortless. I was surprised at the photo printing quality this is capable of, it’s printing photos of the same quality I had come to expect only available from companies using far superior printing machines. The images crisp and clear, just ensure you purchase decent quality print paper as that makes a huge difference. Printing documents etc are decent and prints at a reasonable speed you would expect at this price range and for a home printer. The footprint of the machine was smaller than I was expecting so that was a bonus. Only had the machine a month or so but so far so good. We signed up to the ink package that came with the printer and for now happily testing the printer out without worry of extra cost of ink. Recommended.

GOT 9 MONTHS OF FREE TRIAL UP TO 700 PAGES/MONTH
GOT 9 MONTHS FREE TRIAL using refer a friend code and promotional codes. You can get it too if you buy this printer and enroll in the free instant ink trial. Promo is until 31 Oct 2021 only so enroll in instant ink service ASAP. You may use my refer a friend code bz5b9b (3 months free, for you and me ) and FREEINK (1 month free) on top of the 4 months trial! I got a total of 5 months trial though from trying the codes on the Q and A section and reviews, which mostly worked. That's until 29 May 2022 before I get billed! Perfect for school, work or business because its all-in-one! I bought this for for studies and photo printing. The print quality is good and instant ink is cheaper than buying regular cartridge which costs almost £33 for BLACK AND TRICOLOR 303 traditional cartridge. After the trial, you may opt for as low as £ 0.99 for 15 pages per month and the allowance rolls over if unsed, its like getting billed per page for light use. The good news is you can cancel it anytime or downgrade the plan on the next cycle, no commitments! Perfect plan options for everyone's needs. Also, the HP website sells this model for £145 and I only got it here for less. Couldn't be any happier with my purchase, a great deal and it is so convenient. It's easy to navigate and set up. Just make sure to make a new HP account if you had an existing one from countries without instant ink support to avoid issues. I had an HP account set up from Asia and it won't allow me to enroll to the instant ink service initially because I cannot change the country on the account. I signed up for a new account using another email and it worked! Lastly, choose this printer now as tech radar reviewed this printer and included this as the cheapest of the best photo printers in the market too. :)
