How does the product work? Do you just put the tablet in the mouth-guard box with the guard and leave it for a certain amount of time?

According to the leaflet provided you can use the tablets in a glass with warm water for a minimum of 15 mins or overnight. I have a battery operated cleaner supplied by my dentist for my acrylic partial denture. Hope this helps.

Why every day for two weeks initially and do you need the special toothpaste (for a snore gaurd)

Does this product remove plaque?

I am not sure. I use the tablets to distinfect my sleep well anti snore guard. It is best to contact the manufacturer about this to be safe.
