Really happy with these. Had them a few weeks and caught loads of wasps and big flies. Baited them with a mix of water, jam and red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar. I’m a beekeeper and wanted to add a layer of wasp protection for my hives but don’t want to catch any bees so the bait is Perfect. The vinegar deters bees but wasps love it. I also caught a few European hornets but I always release these unharmed as they are not a threat. The traps are easy to hang. I suggest tying in a bow and if you want to release bycatch like the lovely hornets, you can untie the bow, put the trap on the ground, step well back, loosen the lid then use the string to pull the lid off to let the hornets fly off at a bit of a distance in case they’re a bit annoyed!. The traps are easy to wash out and reuse. Overall really happy with them and would buy again.

We've had a persistent wasp and hornet problem in our area this year, and after trying a couple of less elegant solutions, we picked up the Aspectek traps on the strength of the hourglass design and the promise of selective catching. A month in, here's the honest verdict. Setup and aesthetics Assembly is straightforward — no faff, no tools. My wife's first comment was that it looks "cute," which isn't something you'd normally say about a pest trap. That's genuinely a point in its favour: it doesn't look like an eyesore hanging in the garden, and the hourglass shape gives it a certain charm that the standard yellow plastic traps sorely lack. Does the selective catching actually work? In our experience, yes. We've caught a steady stream of wasps with no bees caught in the crossfire — which was my primary concern going in. The design appears to do what it claims in this respect, and I'd rather not be inadvertently contributing to the local bee population's problems. The attractant — a mixed picture The guide included an attractant recipe, but we had no luck with it whatsoever. A quick search online turned up an alternative that worked considerably better, so I'd suggest doing the same rather than persisting with the included formula if you're not getting results early on. Worth experimenting with. One practical issue: wind If you're hanging these somewhere exposed, be aware that the attractant can leak out of the small ventilation holes when the traps swing in a strong breeze. I haven't landed on a reliable fix yet — though switching to a thicker attractant like jam might help reduce the spillage. Something to keep in mind when choosing where to hang them. The hornet problem Here's where I'll temper expectations: despite regularly spotting hornets investigating the traps over the past month, we haven't caught a single one. They seem curious but unconvinced. Whether that's an attractant issue, a trap-design issue, or simply hornets being hornets, I can't say for certain — but if hornets are your primary target, I'd want to see more evidence this will deliver before giving it a full five stars. Verdict Cleaning and resetting is easy, it looks good, it catches wasps selectively, and it does the job it sets out to do — mostly. The attractant recipe needs improvement and the hornet performance has been a disappointment so far. Solid four stars: recommended for wasp control, with realistic expectations if you're hoping to tackle hornets too.

Great item for the garden to get rid of those annoying wasps. Comes with different ways to attract the wasps inside and once they’re in they can’t escape.

We got two of these a couple of years ago but had to replace them as the string broke and they dropped to the ground and smashed. The new ones have a larger aperture at the top allowing the wasps to enter an exit through the top and escape. As you can see, we’ve replaced the string with chains. If you get these check how big that hole is before setting them up.

The most important point is that they work! After a short time, wasps find their way to the traps and go inside. That’s it. Job done! The liquid is easy to make up, but it would be better if the measurements were in millilitres or fluid ounces, not “shot glasses” which not everyone has and could be different sizes. That said, it isn’t difficult to work out how much to use of each liquid.

Kills bumble BEE’s the 6 large holes need to be made smaller!!! They are currently roughly 8mm wide which is to big Does the job but unfortunately bumble bees have got inside because they can fit inside the 6 large holes which seem to be about 8mm in diameter ive reduced the hole size to 5mm using raw plugs that I have cut in half and placed in the holes. Jury is still out to see if this fixes the issue ideally should now be small enough for a wasp but to small for a bumble bee (Left a 1 STAR because I’m hoping the maker of the product sees this and changes the design to make the 6 large holes slightly smaller 5mm to save the BEES good rule of thumb for UK yellow jackets (like Vespula vulgaris and Vespula germanica) is this: * Typical minimum gap: about 3–4 mm * Very tight squeeze (unusual but possible): around 2–3 mm * Queens: usually need closer to 4–6 mm+ because they’re bulkier So in practical terms: for wasps * <3 mm: very unlikely * 3–4 mm: possible entry point * >4 mm: easy access In most cases, bumblebees are generally too large for a 5-millimeter gap. Even the smallest worker bumblebees tend to need at least 8 millimeters to get through. Don’t use it in your house better outside

After me and my partner getting a wasp in each of our pints within 5 minutes of each other and her getting stung inside her mouth 😂😂😂 I decided enough was enough so I ordered these bad boys and set them up immediately as instructed. Within 24 hours they were catching wasps and other flies with no problem at all! Will definitely recommend this product!

For all those claiming these catch everything. Of course they will if you use a universal attractant like honey or sugar water. If you just want to catch hornets and yellow jackets use a piece of meat. Fish probably works best. This isn't hard folks. I purchased these to catch everything including bees because some inconsiderate neighbor thinks it's a good idea to keep bees in a dense suburban neighborhood. Our city website says this is the number one complaint along with dogs. Change the law city council! Duh!. Before I get a know-nothing lecture about killing bees, wild bees are in no way threatened. It is the human monocultures that attract disease and predators. "Hive collapse" that makes the national news every six months largely refers to commercial operations. When it gets to the point that my grandchildren can't go out in my own backyard without being stung I am going to take action. How to use these if you have the same problem: I highly recommend regular Mountain Dew for lure. Fill the trap right up to the bottom of the lower cones. This way the hornets, YJ and bees will be able to drink the lure and will eventually climb in. It is important to keep the liquid level at this level or your catch rate will drop dramatically. In my opinion and experimentation these traps can be improved by reducing the number of vent holes. This large number of vent holes cause two problems. The first one is the target insects spend so much time trying to feed in the small vent holes that they leave in frustration. The second problem is evaporation. The trap cones are more than sufficient to provide wafting scent without being wasteful or overly attractive. Use a little tube of Silicone to plug the small vent holes. Allow to cure before filling with lure. Honey bee behavior: If you are like me and have a nuisance source in your neighborhood it is not necessary to kill a lot of bees. Honey bees are very social animals and communicate locations of food sources and water to each other in the hive. If you place these traps at the border of your yard they will intercept and kill the few scouts that are finding your yard attractive and prevent them from communicating with the rest of the hive. This breaks the communications chain that has led to the infestation of your yard.
