I bought a401 4 stage with 2.2tip to use it for latex. Should i change proportions of affitives because its stage 4 not 3?

Accepted Answer

When spraying latex, always add 25% Floetrol, regardless of whether you are using the 3 stage, the 4 stage, or the 5 stage turbine.  That may be all that you need to achieve the atomization you want.  If not, you can add some waterborne clear polyurethane until you achieve the desired results.

Question 2

Can i use non bleeding gravity fed guns with this unit? I had seen that the 3 stage is for bleed and non bleed guns correct? Is the 4?

Technically, you can use a non-bleeder gun with this turbine, but I don't recommend it due to the higher pressure of the 4 stage turbine.  I'm not a fan of non-bleeder guns since there are lots of disadvantages to non-bleeder guns (worse atomization, higher heat, less uniform spray, more wear and tear on the motor, less spray control, more expensive, etc) and no advantages.

Question 3

The sprayfine a301 3-stage produces 134 cfm/6.5 psi and the a401 4-stage produces 101 cfm/8.5psi , which one is the best for a better quality finish?

We generally recommend the 3-stage unit for medium viscosity finishes (generally between the consistency of milk and heavy cream).  Thicker finishes such as latex paint will be easier to spray with the 4-stage unit and will require less thinning.

What kind of temperature differential could be expected over ambient (at the gun) if running this unit continuously for 20-30 minutes or so? Thanks!
