Great Phone For Aging Parents
I got this phone for my parents who still have a landline. The display is larger and easier to read than their last system. Adding numbers to the phone book isn’t too difficult (though I did have to show my mom as it wasn’t as simple as push-this-one-button). Best feature is the spam filter and permanent call blocker. A security system requires caller to say their name and push the pound button before the call will ring through. When the call is answered the recorded name is replayed and you have the choice to accept the call, accept the call and add the caller to a “safe caller” list so they can just dial and ring past the system in the future, send the call to voicemail, or permanently block the number. It has empowered my parents to feel more confident with the people they can choose to engage with on the phone. The one potential draw back to this security feature is that some official callers might not get the option to leave a name and press pound (depending on how their dialing system is up). For instance, my mother’s doctor uses a physician referral system that couldn’t get through until we added the number first. 8/10 for display size, 8/10 for ring volume, 9/10 for call-block and security system…and so vastly superior to their last cordless phones that I will never go back. (I bought the system with 5 cordless phones and left two of them in the box. If/when any of three currently in operation get permanently lost or have battery issues, I can “take a spare” from the box without interrupting their phone service or making them potentially learn yet another new system :D )

good home phone system
Some people, like me, like to have a land line. I have an iphone also and understand that point of view. However my iphone is off when I’m home and phones like this are perfect to have. This way I have a phone close by where ever I am. These phones work great around the house.

Good range. Intercom feature a bit clunky
Overall, this phone system works exactly as described. The 2,300-foot range is legitimate and the sound quality is consistent even when I'm far from the base. It’s a solid, reliable system for a large home. My only real gripe is the intercom feature. On my old system, I could just press one button on the receiver and dial the extension. With this VTech model, there are too many steps and menu scrolls just to talk to another room. It’s a minor annoyance in an otherwise very good product, but I definitely miss the simplicity of my old setup.

Every one should read this message. If you are buying this phone make sure the model is 1S8151 because if it’s not, you will not be able to add other handsets to the phone. When you receive this product look for the model number on the box before you open it. That way you don’t have to waste your time putting the phone together. And yes the 1S8151 does connect to 12 HS and it works amazingly. The phone base and the handset’s are great. I have them all over my house. I tried to buy the 1S8151 from Amazon and had to return it twice . There are other companies that sell this phone.

Robo callers? Do they still exist?
This system offers a lot of high tech for a low price. The anti Robo caller screeners is worth the price. Blessed silence. The cell phone connection is worth the price by itself, and you could still use this system without having a land line. That way you don't have to carry your cell phone(s) throughout the house. The list of features goes on and on. e.g. phonebooks, intercom, caller announcement push-to-talk, caller ID recall, message machine. Add in the long range and they are offering a really fine system. If we ditch the land line we will continue to use this system.

Difficult menu system. Very loud and annoying ring tone

Setup instructions don't work, but the phione works nicely
Plugged it in. It says "No date/time". The instructions say "Enter the date", but doing that with the keypad doesn't work. I bet it has lots of fancy features. Too bad they didn't get the first step implemented properly. Once I got past setting the time, I'd say this product works nicely. Audio quality is good and we never get interference. Having said that, the user interface is hard to use: * "Home" means answer the phone * "Menu" means select a menu option, but also means "ok" or "select" in certain contexts * When in a menu option doing something (eg. looking at the caller ID log), you have to use the "Off" button to go back to the previous menu. Hitting left on the big cursor toggle button doesn't do anything. Also, I called Vtech phone support about adding extra handsets. They say you can't add extra handsets (past 5) for this product (product id IS8129-5). Note, that the product description for his product says, "Expandable to 12 HS". So that's an error, you can't expand the IS8129-5 past the 5 phones it comes with. But according to Vtech phone support you could purchase model number IS8151-5 (base + 5 handsets?) and IS8100 (additional handset?) as an alternative to this model.
