Compost Bags

We’ve had a subscription for these for about 6 years now and love them. We have a small household and don’t always fill the bin quickly, I will say the only downside is wet stuff will cause the bag to start biodegrading. Other than that they are high quality. Thick material that doesn’t rip easily.

We use the 6-gallon size which is perfect for our kitchen raw garbage wastebasket (city apt, so small kitchen). We don't put large, heavy or jagged objects in there so haven't had any issues with puncturing. We've regularly filled until just tie-able with food waste, used paper towels, etc. and never had a problem with tearing at capacity. We've put coffee grinds, raw meat scraps, paper towels from spills etc in them and never had any issues with the moisture causing weak spots. We change every 2-3 days maybe. Made in china, and by some unknown manufacturer which just re-brands them for their resellers in the US, or so it seems, but no funny smells from the material. And if it is what they say it is, this is what you want if you don't want to use plastic made from new hydrocarbons. (Even plastic bags made from recycled plastic use some new plastic for added durability and for the drawstrings.) Seems like quality product, and the 6-gallon size if you need it is hard to find so happy to have it.

The plastic is very flexible and fits nicely into the receptacle! I really like the way these dispense out of the box and tear off easily and quickly. Wish the had more sizes.

Summary: My household is looking to transition our plastic use into compostable/sustainable methods. This bag is a good addition for household cleanup for light weight trash/food scraps. But in terms of compostability, it is worth using this product. Pros: 1) Prevents odor. 2) Soft touch pliable material. 3) Hold liquids well. Cons: 1) Not that heat tolerant. 2) Tears easily. 3) The box holding the bags can tear the bags when pulling it out. Suggestions: Cool your food scraps before placing in bag.

I purchased these to cut down on landfill waste at scout camp. Younger scouts tend to waste more food than older ones, and rather than putting food waste in the trash I use these liners to collect it all. I put one in a 5-gallon bucket and once it gets full, I put the lid on the bucket until I can bring it home, pull out the liner bag, tie it off, and put it in the municipal compost collection bin. Most of the time I don’t even need to clean the bucket. Works like a charm and diverts 5-10 gallons of food waste from the landfill during one weekend of family camp!

I've used these bags before and am very pleased with them. Our city has optional composting and they recommended these bags. I like them because they are large, but I am still able to tie them closed. They are also very strong and the perforation is visible. No problem seeing where one bag ends and the next continues.
