Aquarium Substrated Base Mixture - Worked Well For Needs
I am pleased with the product, as it serves as part of the bottom-level substrate mix for my smaller planted aquariums, which are capped with sand (~10 gallons). It is as pictured and of the volume noted. The black 5lb bag was ideal (a tall 10-gallon vase and a tall 10-gallon rectangle). Given the cost and size of individual pieces, I would probably not use the 5-lb bag in a larger aquarium, but would purchase a large amount. NOTE: I would definitely rinse the lava rock thoroughly before using it in an aquarium to remove dust.

They're a matte color, carefully pick your plants when you use them.
If you're using them for something outside (outdoor plants, decorative paths, etc.) they are very matte. They absorbed much more heat than anticipated, so I had to reduce the amount I used in my garden to try and reduce water use in certain plants. They made the pots I put them in on the top HOT, and I live in a cool climate. So they're not the stones for this project. On the top of plants they do not retain water. If you mix them on with soil or put them on the bottom they do much better.

Geat rocks
Love these rocks. Makes my succulents look really nice when I put them on top of the dirt. Helps keep moisture in longer. My succulents are still healthy. Also keeps moisture in even put dirt in the bottom of pot then add rocks then add dirt. I do wash them before I use them. That way I know I have clean lava rocks for my plants. I even save the ones I use and rewash them.

Rocks are one inch of size, no way they can be used for Bonsai, super disappointed!!
