LOVE THESE SHOES (semi-long review)
I'm a huge shoe enthusiast, and I'd been dying to get my hands on these for the past few years. First thing I thought when I put them on and walked around for about an hour: OWWW. I'd figure skated for about ten years before, so I knew what it felt like to wear painful shoes. These were worse. They felt like I'd strapped a knife to the backside of the right shoe and took a stroll; the shoe literally shredded the skin on the back of my heel. But after I let it heal, I began wearing thicker socks (so I recommend wearing these during cooler seasons like late autumn or winter) and stuffed unused makeup sponges in the socks where the stiff leather of the new boots pinch your feet. You may have to adjust the sponges throughout the day because they can move around, but it keep your feet cut-free. Anyway, after a few wears (sometimes just wearing them around the residence hall to get water or go to the bathroom, etc.) the leather of the shoes softened significantly. They grow progressively comfier with each wear, and people who ask can't believe that I got these for under $80 on Amazon. (Seriously, it's a great deal when the prices fall a bit.) SIZING TIP: order a size UP if you're a halfie like me! I wear a 6.5 in US women's sizes, so I ordered the 5 F(M) UK/7 B(M) US Women. I figured it's best to have shoes that are a bit roomier (you can always wear thicker socks or insert insoles) than to have shoes that are stiff AND too small. Overall, these are some of my favorite shoes. They go with every look, whether it's a lazy day or a day when I feel like dressing up a bit. Highly recommend to anyone who needs a closet staple pair of shoes. Just take care during the breaking-in stage.

True to size! The reviews are right - you do need to break the shoes in
Love love love these boots. I am usually a size 7 - 7.5 in US women's. 7.5 is more comfy for me so there's a little more room so my toes are touching the inside of the shoes, but I ordered the UK 5. I ordered the Smooth Black (which are also supposed to be a tougher leather according to research) . They fit fine with 1 pair of normal Hanes socks etc. I've been trying to do the double layer to "break them in" , wearing a pair of those long, thick, fuzzy socks with ankle socks over them and it's a bit tight to fit in. I haven't had issues with the back of the shoe where it dips in by the Achilles tendon (maybe my ankles are thin enough it doesn't rub much on the back). A LOT of people complain about blistering and how uncomfortable theses shoes are at first, but I honestly haven't had any problems. My biggest issue, though, is on the top of the foot the shoes also dip in and it is a bit tight. You can start to feel pins and needles, especially if you have cold feet already like I do (poor circulation maybe, haha). I think the leather just needs to be stretched out. I don't want to pay for it, so I'll do what I can to stuff them when not in wear, and maybe try the frozen / hot water trick. I was also told by a friend to get the leather balm to maintain the condition of the boots. I wear these around the house for a few hours (they do make a squeaky sound) and I have also worn them out for a couple hours per day, and there wasn't much of a difference. I guess start slow and take breaks in between wears. Maybe I'm just lucky or my feet are the right size to fit comfortably in the shoe, but this is a great purchase. Arrived right on time and good packaging, and the price is amazing compared to retail! I Googled and stalk the shoes a ton before finally ordering ( and I never tried them on in a store, which may be a good idea), but I am totally happy! Best of luck to you

Great pair of boots!
I have always wanted a pair of combat boots for a really long time but have been hesitant to get them due to the high cost of good quality leather boots. I finally decided to get a pair since I will be getting a motorcycle soon and went with Dr. Martens because of the good reviews. Upon receiving them, they were very stiff (of course) and slightly uncomfortable around the ankles. But after walking around in them for a whole day, I felt the boots conforming to the shape of my feet. The second day felt better and it just felt comfortable from then on. I wore long socks on the first two times, but came to realize that ankle socks worked fine (just make sure your socks won't slip). The boots look great with almost anything I wear (rompers, shorts, pants/jeans, dresses, etc.)! And the best part for me is that they look great with wear; I tend to treat my belongings, especially shoes, roughly. I'm no expert on boots but in my opinion, these boots are great and I highly recommend these.

Beautiful boots but beware!
If you don't know anything about Doc Martens, please do some real research before you buy them. They are beautiful, sturdy, all-purpose boots but they are an absolute nightmare to break in. I bought these months ago now and after casual wear they are still in the process of being broken in and they still rub my heels and give me blisters. You have to really work at these boots to get them to be soft and comfortable; they are made of the stiffest leather I've ever felt. Online sources recommend slamming them against the ground or pounding them with rubber mallets, that's how tough these boots are. That being said, they are unbelievably cute, go with any outfit and from what I've heard, they'll easily last you 10+ years. JUST PLEASE DON'T BUY THESE AND THINK YOU CAN WEAR THEM ALL DAY AFTER YOU TAKE THEM OUT OF THE BOX. You can't. You will die. Take it slow, do your research and you will have perfect, wonderful boots that are strong and last you a lifetime. Mine are still a little uncomfortable but I love them and I'm considering other colors. Great buy.

All around good for work, labor, or fashion after painful breaking in period
I was in search of fashionable work boots with a slip resistant sole, and Dr. Martens 1460 Work Booth in Smooth Leather fit the bill. The key word was FASHIONABLE, as I found many work boots or loafers too ugly to justify the higher price tags. These shoes earned me frequent compliments from customers and coworkers alike. While I find that these shoes leaned more toward fashion than manual work safety standards (the oil and fat slip resistance wore away as I abused the soles daily), I cannot deny the comfort factor. At least... after the first two weeks of breaking them in. For the uninitiated, these shoes felt like they also came with daggers conveniently placed at the angles that will hurt you the most. My heels, calves, and tops of my feet were rubbed raw. Although I didn't bleed, I scabbed; the scars lasted for months before fading completely. When I came home and removed the shoes, it looked like I had been beaten up. During the breaking in period, I tried the works: Socks, band aids, and stretching the shoes at night. It was a nightmare. Then, suddenly it all went away. What remained was the famed "air cushioned sole" that everyone was talking about. While I was on my feet for over 8 hours per day walking, crouching, stooping, bending, running, etc., I came home feeling great. Maybe with slightly tingly sore calves at the most. My actual feet did not suffer, and my arches were fine. Note that I am not predisposed to orthopedic issues, but I sincerely believe that these Docs provided the comfort and quality that I needed. This Smooth type leather was advertised as one of the sturdiest, so the difficult breaking in period was to be expected. I cannot speak for the quality of the actual leather itself because I failed to take care of it properly. I did clean and conditioning the boots for a month before I gave up and decided these would be fine to destroy. After about 4 months, they cracked severely and no amount of conditioning could save them. 4 months sounds short, but keep in mind that I was putting them through a lot of stress and filthy conditions. Plenty of motor oil was involved - it probably ate away at the leather. From afar, the yellow stitching at the sole appears black and indistinguishable from my boot. I also had to give up the yellow laces because they were too stained - it looked nasty. I have mostly stopped wearing my 1460s aside from utilitarian purposes (working, hiking, etc.), but I will occasionally put them on for a grunge look. If I were to purchase another pair for just looks, then I would go with the Pascal made with nappa or virginia leather so I can look edgy without sending my feet to hell and back. The pain and suffering shall be remembered in the form of one star withheld.

No more rolled ankles!
I’ve wanted Doc’s since I was a teenager and we could never afford them. Obviously, back then, it was a trend thing. Now that I’m getting up there in age and have since been diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder, I needed some boots that would stabilize my ankles because I roll them multiple times a day, they’re prone to dislocate, and they always just hurt. My fiancé bought me these as a mother’s day gift because he knew I needed them, as well as how bad I’ve always wanted them. I put them on yesterday when they got here and they have been a dream! They are very true to size as well, I’ve kept them on to get them broken in. This is one thing that’s important to note with the classic Smooth Leather; they must be broken in! They’re going to be tight around the tongue stitching, especially if you have high arches, which I do. But you need to just put on some thick socks and suck it up. You can also stick full soda cans down in them when you’re not wearing them. Another thing that will help is shoe polish. Real shoe polish, not one of those quick clean sponges. If you have a hypermobility issue, I highly recommend them! Or, if you just have to be on your feet a lot, because they are incredibly comfortable and cause no foot/leg fatigue. I can’t wait to be able to go do things again that I wasn’t able to do because of my ankles!

These are the best boots I've ever had.
I usually wear 7.5/8 but since Dr. Martens doesn't do half sizes, I have really slender feet, and the 8 I tried on in person were huge and clompy on me, I got these in a size 7 and stretched them out. It was really painful for the first two months, during which I wore them at least a couple of days a week if not more (this was in the fall and winter), but now I can even fit thick socks/two pairs on regular socks relatively comfortably, There's still a bit of pinch on my toes every now and then, but I've had these since October and it's been worth it to me in all the snow and freezing weather the northeast has been having. Other than that, I love how they look! I got them in black smooth and they pretty much go with any casual outfit. They do so well in all weather and are definitely my favorite boots, if not my favorite shoes.

These shoes are wonderful! The shoes are true to size(I'm a size 6 and ordered a size 6) but remember that you have to break them in seeing that they're leather and that they'll be a bit stiff and tight when you get them. With time they'll become softer and to help with that, it's suggested to get mink oil or the wonder balsam(whichever you prefer) They're the real Dr. martens for those who were wondering. Came in the original box with extra laces. There is just a small stitching mistake on the side of both shoes but it's not a big deal or in any case noticeable unless you're really picky about detail. Personally, I don't mind. They look great on and pretty much goes with everything. A great buy!

Fantastiche
