Can this drum be painted? What type of paint or ink might work?

Yes, I painted mine with acrylic paint and it looks beautiful and did not affect the playing. So happy with this drum.

Hi, I am a graphic designer and artist and I have painted several of these drums with both acrylic paint and acrylic markers. (Some people use oil paint as well.) Sharpie pens can be used as well but acrylics have a higher lightfastness so I would recommend that. I use Molotow markers and Molotow UV acrylic varnish in matte to seal the artwork off - as a protection of the paint. Posca markers are also good. It is also a good idea not to totally cover the drum head and leave some space empty. Don't apply too much paint or it will dampen the tone. I created a 30 minute tutorial on Youtube how to paint the Remo Buffalo Drum, search for that if you want to see in detail how to do it. I hope this helps! It is a wonderful process to paint your own drum and I would encourage you to go for it!

Can someone answer if the mallet is made of wood as pictured or if it has a black plastic handle?

Hi:  The mallet here is made of wood.  I have not received any Remo drum mallets that are plastic.  I have 10 or so drums now.  Tom
