Can't believe it took me years to find this. Dog outgrew her HS prong collar - thought to buy a few extension links and then found this - almost the same cost as the extension links and adds about 1.5 inches to the diameter of the collar AND is quick on and off which is great for family members with weaker hands. VERY secure once latched. It has a plastic slider that is supposed to stop accidental button presses - IMHO the collar will not accidentally come undone. I threw the plastic slider away. This solution is much better than other quick release models I've seen. I have been a K9 handler and trainer so I've seen more than a few. LOVE Herm Sprenger.

Very nice buckle. Just make sure you are using a Herm Sprenger prong collar. The prongs need to be facing downward toward the buckle for it to fit and work properly. Once installed correctly, the buckle works great and makes taking the collar on and off much easier.

Bought this and the metal one to tell my two dogs' prong collars apart. Although this fully black one works as intended, it was very hard to slide the piece to uncover the release button. After several attempts, it seemed it was stuck, whereas the metal release one had a slide that was easily moved. Considered returning as a defect, but finally had my husband try. Several attempts later, it was slid back to expose the release button. Took several back and forths to make it easier to move, which then makes it perfect. Overall, clasp is sturdy and holds well. Make easy work on putting on/taking off the prong collar. It's a bit clunky for the 2.25 links, especially when the collar size is small, but that can be overlooked because it's so worth it.

I LOVE this buckle. As a girl with long nails, this has saved me. I bought a biothane one as well but this one’s easier and significantly cheaper. Yes the sliding part can be annoying but I don’t care that much and you could take it off if it really bothers you. I also ended up taking 2 prong out so it would fit better because it does inevitably add length. Highly recommend this just for ease of use!!!

The new HS 2.25mm/3mm "hybrid" collars are great, but the links are much thicker and stronger to the point where my hands were having trouble separating and connecting links efficiently; don't even think about doing it with any grace on a dog in training! I'm an experienced prong collar user who can do this in my sleep with any normal-sized link, so I admitted defeat, bought this product and am grateful for it every time I hear it click closed. The moving plastic part ended up falling off (it did NOT break, just slid off) and I have noticed no difference in performance or security. The design is such that the chances of the release button being pressed is virtually nil, and dogs should not be playing with or chewing each other collars if you're using this tool so another dog releasing the fastener by biting it is essentially a non-issue. It is an owner's responsibility to ensure that, by adding the 2.5" length of the clip onto the collar, there are still have enough prongs remaining to keep the collar a safe, reliable training device for the dog when properly fit and applied in a humane, effective training program.
