My New Favorite Pen!
It's an elegant product at an affordable price! I had long seen and desired my own Ellington Fountain pen but always put off buying one. Well, Father's Day saw a daughter of mine give me a nice Amazon gift card and I immediately headed to the Ellington pens wanting to order a black medium pen. With Amazon, I placed the order late at night and by the next afternoon I had my new pen. I should add that I've been a fountain pen guy since my elementary school days when one could buy a Sheaffer fountain pen for 99¢ - this is way better! I love its ease of use and response to my way of writing. Comfort: Fits comfortably in my hand. Value for money: Executive quality for not so much money. Ink flow: The ink flows smoothly and evenly; a joy to use. Write quality: Its ease of writing is great even though my penmanship leaves a lot to be desired.

Outstanding buy! A must try!
Bottom line, I love this pen. It's become one of my favorites quickly. The good: * Smooth writer - using Waterman Audacious Red ink, wrote nicely on the first inking; VERY smooth on multiple paper types (Leuchtturm 1917 A5 lined notebook, Tūl legal pad, Strathmore Mixed Media 300 Series, and Office Depot legal pads) * Easy inking - Piston adapter works easily and writes well following first inking * Value - For what this cost, it is a phenomenal pen that punches well above its weight * Construction quality - Excellent materials used; metal pen body with resin exterior feels very sturdy and like it was built to last for a very long time * Posting - the cap posts well and does not feel loose as the caps on several of my other pens (some of which I've spent a good deal more money on than this one) do The only thing I can think of that some people may not like about the pen (but I love) is that when the cap is posted, the pen can be "tail heavy" in the hand. This is something I had to really reach for to put in the review because I've seen some who are concerned about that. In my hand, though, I like the tail heavy feel of the pen.

The pen and customer service are both excellent.
This pen looks and feels impressive. At first touch it’s a bit heavy, but a lot of the weight is in the cap. If you put the cap to the side it’s very balanced. The nib (that’s the tip right?) is a bit thicker than I expected, but it makes for a beautifully smooth writing experience. The pen just glides. It comes with a cartridge compatible with an ink well, and short disposal cartridges. It’s also compatible with the Waterman Large Standard Ink Cartridges (which had I purchased previously). Being compatible with three different ink sources is convenient feature. The pen comes loaded with the “ink well” cartridge installed, and I was unsure of how to uninstall this. But the QR code and the excellence customer service people rescued me in all of 3 minutes. 5 minutes into opening, I had the disposable cartridge refitted, and I was writing things down. I’m just getting into journal writing, and while I love a good roller ball, but I’m fairly new to fountain pens. My dad on the other hand, gets a pen every year from his boss (he worked at the same hospital for 30 years). He happened to be with me when I opened it up, so he took it for a spin. Even with his experience of his Mont Blanc and his calligraphy pen sets, he was very impressed with this. I’ve only had it for a few hours, but I’m loving writing with a running hand. The ink flow is evenly distributed, the ink runs quickly but dries quickly, so I haven’t smeared it yet, and it writes well at all angles and speeds. So far I’m a big fan. This is going to be a tremendous help for unpacking my thoughts and improving my cursive penmanship. The $40 was worth it. Other things I noticed: 1. The customer service was excellent. They immediately connected to FB messenger, which I use routinely, and knew precisely the questions to ask. 2. The packaging was sturdy and well made. It had a bunch of dried ink inside the box which was a bit weird, but nothing on the pen or in the case, just on the protective laminated paper which houses the case. 3. The cap has 3 parts: the little nub on the top, the paper clip thing and the cap proper. The cap has cheap plastic threads which connect the nub to the cap proper. But this is probably never going to be relevant. All the rest of the materials are metal and they seem sturdy. If the pen breaks in a few days, I’ll come back with a follow up, but for now, I think I have a new favorite pen.

*REVISED-A second chance!* You will definitely want to skip this one probably.
Revision/Update Kudos to Ethan! He was very persistant and even though I returned the pen he offered to send me another pen of my choice for free to try again and "review". This second pen sent to me basically worked right out of the box. There was no issue at all with ink flow. The pen I ordered was a medium, this one feels closer to a fine but is adequately wet, it writes a consistent line with no skipping or stopping. Fresh out of the box there is what I'll call a "squeek" to the nib while writing on regular copy paper, which is really all I use, and I expect that to go away over time with use. The pen still feels well made and has a good weight to it, I expect it to last a long time. Read my original review and then, I'd say consider giving them a try. In this day and age customer service appears to be dead but, not at Ellington pens, what great service! Original review This fountain pen has a serious manufacturing defect. It doesn't write! I did contact Ethan at Ellington pens since his card was included and explained my issue. I was directed to a video on the website that did not help. I replied back informing Ethan of that fact and have not heard back since. I wanted to let them know of the issue and give them an opportunity to correct it in some way (maybe a new nib unit?). I removed the cartridge supplied with the pen from the pen and inserted it into another pen I own that uses the standard short cartridge and it worked fine so, definitely a nib issue. One star for Ethan for emailing me back but, ultimately didn't amount to anything.

Absolutely the finest fountain pen I’ve ever owned!
Absolutely the finest fountain pen I’ve ever owned! When I was in middle school, my family moved from California to a small village in England. To my utter shock, I was required to use a fountain pen at school. I don’t think I’d ever heard of a fountain pen in my life until then (1972), but I took to it like a duck to water. I begged my parents for the pens I saw in High Street, but—thinking it was a phase—they only allowed for a cheap plastic school pen. No matter, I was besotted by all things fountain pen-related and my love for them never wavered. If anything, the hunt for one that I could afford in the performance of one I certainly could not became my holy grail pursuit. After we moved back to America, I was dismayed to discover that I couldn’t even find ink, let alone a cartridge stateside. It would be quite a few years before I discovered a high-end stationery shop that carried them. It being a specialty store, the pens I loved to play with in-house were still far too dear for me, but I was allowed to write and draw with them to my heart’s content and so began learning about what I loved most—and what to avoid—about my obsession. This being the days of yore, such knowledge came from humans rather than YouTube so shop owners were always happy to pass on their niche expertise. Thus began my adventure through low-cost alternative pens—a mostly disappointing journey—attempting to find the elusive unicorn. When an ad for the Ellington Pens showed up in my feed, I was intrigued, but not enough to trust a brand new brand without the history to support its touting. That said, when it recently went on sale, I thought, “Why not? Someone needs to be first.” I am so so very happy I trusted my gut! It feels like pens costing hundreds more! This, my friends, is the unicorn we’ve all been hunting! The ink just glides from the nib, and the balance is so perfect that even my arthritic fingers can write and write for ages each and every day. The cap is snug and the materials feel beautifully cool and solid. The only downside I have found—and this is just my personal opinion—is the converter reservoir. It feels and looks somewhat cheaply mass-produced. Even so, it behaves itself perfectly so far in my use. The ink pulls up nicely—without mess—and feeds well with zero drag, dumping, or gapping. As it’s tucked inside the barrel, who cares if it looks like an afterthought. Folks, I highly, highly recommend this pen, especially if you’re someone who must—or more importantly, loves to—handwrite a lot each day. It’s just such a glorious time loop back to the past when pens were created for their joy as much as for their purpose.

Nice writing, light-weight fountain pen
Update: 11/23/24 I switched out the ink I was using and the issue I was having with inkflow was resolved, so I upgraded this to 5 stars. The only other thing I would mention is to make sure the ink you use isn't too thick or you'll have the same issues I mentioned. So I've only been using the pen for about a day and a half, and so far, it seems to be a real nice writing pen. The only thing I'm experiencing that I don't like is that the ink flow out of the nib seems to be slightly inconsistent, like the first stroke of any word sometimes doesn't have ink flow to the page, but I can't rule out it being an ink-related issue. For the rest of my review, just assume I'm silently adding, "other than the potential ink issue." That being said, other than that potential issue, I would have rated this a five-star pen based on the price/value and how well it writes. I've got several other fountain pens (most cost 2x-3x what this one costs, but I have at least 2 that cost 5x what this one costs, like a Visconti that I've used for over a decade), yet this one seems to actually be a nicer pen to write with overall. If you like your pen to have a bit of heft to it, then this might be too light for you. If you want something that's going to be comfortable to journal/write with for extended periods of time, then this is a great option. I have a solid brass pen that I love the weight/feel of and that I enjoy writing with, but after about 20-30 minutes of writing, it starts to feel a bit heavy and my hand starts to tire out. Even though I only got this pen yesterday, I've already written with it for probably the better part of 2-3 hours and my hand doesn't feel fatigued at all. So yeah, if it's not an ink issue, the it's a 4-4.5 star pen. If it's an ink issue, then I would rank this a 5 star pen for the price, and even if it was 4x more expensive, I'd still rank it that high.

My new Stealth pen
I recently got the Stealth Pen from the Ellington Pen Company, and I couldn’t be happier with it. From the moment I took it out of the box, I could tell it was something special. It’s sleek, attractive, and feels great in the hand — clearly very well made. The real joy, though, is how beautifully it writes. The ink flows smoothly, the pen glides effortlessly, and writing with it just feels right. It’s one of those pens that makes you want to find reasons to write more often! I’m genuinely impressed and very pleased with this purchase. The Stealth Pen has become my new favorite, and I’d gladly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a high-quality writing experience. Thank you, Ellington Pen Company, for such a wonderful pen!

Good quality pen, poor quality ink
The pen itself is very nice. An excellent weight, writes smoothly, looks very nice. The price is reasonable for what you get. I have no objections to the pen. The ink, however, is terrible. Writing on standard paper it bleeds like nobody's business. One would produce cleaner lines with a paint brush. If you write on anything slow to absorb the ink, however, it quite simply never dries. I was marking up some cards and left them sitting out on my desk for two solid weeks to let the ink dry. At the end, they still smudged. So those are your choices, blurry lines from bleeding ink or blurry lines from smudged ink.

A great pen at a good price
This pen feels well made. The weight and balance are just right. The pen is quite heavy, but that all adds to the solid, reliable feel. The black finish looks great. The ink flows smoothly and so far hasn't dried up at all. My handwriting isn't great but there is just enough resistance on the paper to slow my hand down a little, so the end result looks better. A lovely instrument and a good investment, especially at the price.

Nice pen, writes thicker than I expected
Feels nice in the hand and has a luxurious, premium appeal. The nib took some time to wear in and feel smooth but after a week of use it's much improved. The medium nib has a broader pen stroke than I expected. Lines are quivalent width to 0.7mm ballpoint gel ink pens I own despite this one being advertised as 0.5mm. In hindsight I would have picked the fine nib over medium. Parts and accessories are very expensive to ship to Australia, a new nib is almost the same price as a whole new pen.

Excellent quality and great value
This pen feels great in the hand and writes beautifully. I bought the fine nibbed version and it works perfectly for me. It is also very stylish and has the appearance of much more expensive pens.

Very well designed fountain pen
I've only tried to write a few words until now, I really appreciate the shape of the fountain pen's body; it's a size that's suitable for my hands that suffer a bit from arthritis pain and therefore I struggle to clench my fingers. The nib scratches a bit on the paper. I loaded it with one of the black cartridges provided and the ink seems good even compared to the one I usually use: the Montblanc black ink
