When I opened the box, the first thing that hit me was the size. In the modern day of poorly proportioned, overpriced fashion watches, it was great to see that it fitted perfectly onto my wrist. It is small without looking dainty or feminine. As far as accuracy goes, it isn't the same as a quartz movement, but I don't see why anyone would complain. For an automatic watch at this price point, it is unbeatable. I reckon it could beat a watch over twice its price for accuracy. The sandblasted finish is a godsend- a quick wipe and it is clean (no streaks or permanent marks). The dial is a brilliant colour, and the thickness of the case is excellently proportioned. In addition, the exhibition case back is amazing. Sure, not the most decorated movement out there, but the fact that Seiko included one on a watch of this price point is brilliant. It's not all amazing though. The strap is comes on is slightly stiff and itchy at first, and over time becomes frayed. This isn't an issue, a £5 nato or other strap can easily fix this issue. I find that a tan leather strap looks great, and unlike a nato, doesn't block the case back. The water resistance isn't up to swimming standard, although I don't see why it would be an issue if there was a short-ish dip in the water. It's tough enough to survive everyday life, but don't plan on going diving with it. Overall, a great value watch with some brilliant features. The loom is really helpful, and gives the illusion of the watch being more expensive than it is. Great job Seiko. Change the strap though.

Bought one of these, and I'm really pleased, and not just because the price was jumped way up since...it looks lovely. The quality and build are nice and it looks sleek and smart on the wrist, a real James Bond piece of equipment. It is a little smaller than many men's watches in this age of aggressive overbuilt bezels, but I like it - it will not look as if you have a miniaturised ladies' watch on if you are a male. It also means it won't catch on everything. Hardlex crystal resists scratching. The numbers and arrow aren't luminous, it has 12 pips plus the hands, but this is perfectly adequate and it goes equally well for both office and sports use. It will tolerate showers and swimming but no diving Apparently these are genuine Seikos with a Malaysian rather than Japanese movement - fine, I bought several and none have given me a reason to complain. What negatives I have read about these watches for the greater part appear misguided. It has an aviator dial and hands, to precisely indicate seconds and minutes which tend to be more important than hours if you're piloting a high-performance aircraft! It is an automatic watch that must be worn most days to keep the mainspring wound by a gyro utilising the natural movement of your wrist - they're finely engineered but tend to lose a few seconds a day. Also bear in mind that for a relatively low price, you're getting a very smart and utilitarian watch by a good make - if you want titanium shockproofing and 200m - plus of water resistance, then expect to pay more! Overall a lovely piece of engineering and I'm delighted with mine...

I've had this watch for about six months now and I'm very pleased with it. I paid £50, but even at this price it's still good value. As others have commented the 37mm dial is much smaller than many modern "men's sized" watches, but having thin wrists I prefer this size. The matt finish is unusual and distinctive and the dial is very clear, making this an easy watch to read at a glance.The fabric strap was comfortable and had plenty of adjustment, but I've now replaced it out of personal choice with a quality leather bund-type strap, which I think looks better. As for accuracy, mine's holding around a couple of seconds a day at the moment, though as with all mechanical watches this will vary depending on how you wear it and how you set it down at night. I know you can get much better timekeeping from a quartz watch at half the price, but that's not why you're buying an automatic. I see them as a traditional alternative to the Ecodrive or Kinetic technologies - no risk of a battery ever letting you down. You do need to be wearing an automatic every day though to keep it ticking - otherwise it'll run down in about 40 hours. However, unlike an Ecodrive that's been kept in the dark for too long, you can get an automatic going again in a matter of seconds - a quick shake to get the rotor spinning, and off it goes. Another reviewer mentioned the movement was "non-hacking" - that you can't arrest the seconds hand when setting, making it a bit hit and miss when syncronising to another time reference. However, I found that if the mainspring isn't too tightly wound, you can apply a little backward pressure on the gear-train via the crown and this will arrest the seconds hand for syncronising (it stops the watch). Not proper "hacking", but a handy work around if you like your watch spot on. The only thing that made me hesitate before clicking the "buy" button was the 30m water resist which, like another reviewer, I didn't expect to see on a watch otherwise marketed as "military field style". I would have preferred 100m, but decided a reliable 30m was worth a risk. It's survived several sweaty walks on rainy days without steaming up, so I'm quite happy with that. A very easy four stars - agonised over five - 100m water resist and a slightly better strap would have clinched it, but for under £60.00 and a lovely little Seiko 5 that looks this good, I'm not complaining.

This is an amazing watch. It doesn't concede to the fashion of ridiculously big cases, it's fully waterproof, it keeps time pretty well and the open back is really cool to look at in dull meetings etc. This is a watch with 30m water resistivity. Almost all the information I could find regarding the water resistance categories told me this meant it was strong enough to withhold a splash as I washed my hands or stood in the rain. Forever an optimist, I ignored this advice and have showered every day in this watch, and swam on multiple occasions. I've even worn it when freediving, reaching around 10m underwater which is very different to accidental contact when washing hands. The watch is absolutely fine and has seen no damage due to this, and in addition, it looks really cool underwater for some reason. This is a watch I wear every day and night. I never take it off. Although that may be a bit gross, it does leave me well qualified after a few months of wearing it to say that this is a resilient watch. Although I try not to hit or scratch the face, it has had a few bumps and yet shows no sign of it. The strap gets a lot of hate in these reviews. It is made out to be tatty and some people even say it stretches throughout the day. I must say that although I was unsure about it at first, the strap has grown on me in a far more positive way! I replaced it initially with a rubber clasp band, but found I missed the rugged, 'service watch' feel of the nylon band. And in response to the complains of the strap stretching, I would suggest that it is merely the result of the wearer's wrist changing as they move throughout the day, for i have had no such problems. The accuracy of this watch is exactly what one might expect from an automatic watch. Comparing it to my Apple Watch which is of course accurate 100% of the time, I find the watch looses or gains perhaps a minute or two a week. Some reviewers said that their watch stopped due to their sedatory job and lifestyle. This astounds me that someone could move so little that their watch wouldn't be able to charge itself. But anyway. I would suggest you buy this watch. I almost decided to go for the more expensive option, the bigger and more waterproof seiko (I can't remember the name sorry) due to its 100m resistance. However, I'm happy to say my fears were alayed: this watch is as waterproof as I need at least. (Maybe not if you're a scuba diver?)

At the time of writing i have had this watch for only about a week and so far I am pleased. The real highlight of this seiko 5 watch is the dial. The detail and finish on each of the numbers are clear and vibrant which makes it easier to distinguish the time even when the watch is sitting on table and more than makes up for the fact the watch is relatively small. The needles for the hour and minute are broad at the centre coming to a fine point at the end again making this watch very practical. To top it all off is the addition of the day and date which many watches these days seem to omit especially at the £50 price range. I of course love the sweeping second hand with its red tip that elevates this cheap watch to something more elegant and stylish. The negatives are few. It can be tricky to pull out the crown but then you won't be doing that too often and being offset is brilliant as it doesn't dig into your wrist. The other very annoying things is the metal buckles that hold the strap in place they look plasticy but are metal and so will make a metallic scratching noise when you type. This means that I have to take my watch off whenever i need to type on my laptop. Lastly I did notice the watch for some reason become 1 minute fast but that just might be because i set the time wrong initially I will have to keep an on eye on that. Overall i have always been a fan of seiko watches they are simply the highest quality watch without the silly price tags. With it's sub £50 price, high build quality, practicality and design, the seiko 5 is the prefect everyday watch.

I bought this seiko 5 due to reading many recommendations as a very affordable mechanical automatic wrist watch. It ticks most of my boxes although it would be nice to be more waterproof. Also it is a little smaller than I would ideally prefer and the strap is not brilliant but ok. My biggest problem is that it’s time keeping is pretty poor. Mine is losing about 2.5 minutes a day I.e morning until night. Therefore approximately 5 minutes a day. I know it is a budget watch but in this day and age I think that is not acceptable. I have considered returning it. But I like it. Dilemma.

A well made and accurate watch, considering the almost unbelievably low price. I bought one to wear as an everyday watch, so that I could give my much more expensive Eterna some time off. It keeps excellent time for a mechanical watch and the automatic winding system means that all you have to do is put it on in the morning and the movement does the rest of the work. The watch itself is well finished, with a nice satin texture to the case and a pleasing weight that belies it's compact size. The rear of the case has a glass display back, so you can see the movement and winding rotor going about their business. The face is clear and legible and uses a "flieger" style design, with hours and minutes both given their own rings. The luminous paint applied to the hands is bright and remains so for a good length of time, meaning that reading the time is possible right throughout the night. Three points for those interested in this watch; not negatives, but things to be aware of. 1. The case size is 37mm in diameter. With today's fashion for oversized watches, the SNK809K is quite small in comparison. For some, this might be an issue, for others, none at all. 2. The strap provided with the watch is cheap and whilst it will get the job done, you will probably want to get a replacement. The good news is that there is a lot of great straps out there and this watch looks at home on everything from nylon to canvas and leather. 3. The water resistance rating is 30m and there is not screw down crown, so you don't want to be swimming while wearing this watch. However, it will handle everyday splashes and rain with no problem at all.

Where can I start. Came quick which I expect from every order. The box does not look like the kind of box for a watch of that price. Very classy. The watch did have a tag for $180 which I thought was a bit cheeky because it was listed as more. I wasn't too bothered. Means still I got a bargain anyway. The watch it self is beautifully finished. It has a great weight to it and you can feel the quality. I was even impressed by the strap which I was expecting I would have to change. One thing that really confused me is that when you pull out the crown the seconds hand keeps moving. I think there was only one other review that mentioned that. I checked online and managed to find out that this isn't a fault. Apparently the cheaper Malaysian movement which this watch uses doesnt have the facility to stop the second hand. Which means if you're like me and like to synchronize your watch to the second. You cant really do that but I got over that very quickly. Mine seems to keep time well. I think i noticed it loose a minute in about a week which is fine by me. To sum up. If you want a good looking automatic watch at an affordable price. This is the watch for you.

愛用のデイトジャストをオーバーホールに出す間の代用品を探していたところ、この時計が目に止まりました。 この価格で自動巻き？と思ったのですが、面白そうだし、オーバーホールの間使えれば問題無いので購入しました。 ２週間程度使用しましたが、実に良い時計だと思います。 ・良い点 ・意外と質感が良く、とても七千円程度には 見えません。 ・文字盤が非常に見やすいです。 ・着用中は精度が高い（12時間で＋2秒以下） ・残念な点 ・時計を振ってゼンマイを巻き上げると いきなり十秒程度進みます。 ・一日中置いておくと日差１分を越える事が あります。 まあ、使用頻度が高ければ、上記の二点はあまり問題にはならないです。 価格を考えれば非常に優秀だと思いますので、機械式時計の特性を理解して、手間を楽しめるのなら買って損はしないと思います。

I'm very impressed with this little military style automatic. It's size is true to the heritage of most military watches with a 38mm case and 28mm dial. This makes for a smaller watch than what you'd find with most modern offerings and should be taken into account when shopping for this. If you have smaller wrists and/or don't mind the older styling of the smaller case than it's a great size. If you have large wrists or aren't willing to adjust to a smaller dial and case then you can always go with the larger Seiko SNZ Sports. This SNK809 looks superb on a 6 1/4" wrist, but I'd consider at least trying on the SNZ for wrists > 6 3/4". Generally speaking smaller watches are more comfortable than larger ones, and this is true with the SNK809 as it's lightweight and thin. Seiko put the small crown at four o'clock so it won't dig into your hand which is a nice touch and something not often seen. The crown is tiny so the watch typically has to be removed to make adjustments to date or time. The watch features a 21 jewel Seiko automatic movement which is known to be robust and fairly accurate. Given the nature of automatic movements you can expect this watch to lose or gain as much as thirty seconds a day. Mine loses around five seconds a day. The watch is wound by an internal rotor but is not hackable nor can it be wound by the crown. You can watch it in action through the mineral crystal display case back. Power reserve is advertised as forty hours, although in my experience it's closer to 36 hours. The lume on the hands and hours is surprisingly bright and works well in low light. The face is well designed and is clear and easy to read at a glance. The included watch strap is nothing special, but it carries a nato strap appearance with media blasted hardware to match the watch case. I've read a lot of negative complaints about the strap and while it's not the most comfortable strap I've owned, it's comfortable enough and mine doesn't have any premature fraying (yet). I did upgrade my strap to a leather three ring nato which I find to be more comfortable and smoother against the skin. For the price you really can't go wrong with this watch. The water resistance is the main down fall being rated for only 30 meters; I'd personally consider that splash proof but would remove the watch before swimming or bathing. The larger SNZ is rated to 100m should you need it. You'll also probably want to replace the included strap since everyone seems to absolutely hate it for various reasons (I don't mind it but it's admittedly a cheap strap). The watch is made in Malaysia by robots. People seek out the Japanese made models (specifically with the SNZ) because they're perceived to be made with higher care and attention, however that is not the case with this watch or the SNZ. All the individual parts are generally made in the same factories and each watch movement is assembled by robots regardless of country of manufacture. When you get into higher end models that have some hand assembly involved then it might be worth paying the premium for a Japanese version, but when the movement is made by robots you'll get consistent quality from each factory throughout Asia. If you're on the fence about this watch or are new to automatic movements, it's an easy decision. It's a well made, sub $100 watch that keeps good time and won't cause a financial crisis if lost or broken. You can mod them with after market dials, hands, and crystals should you decide to toss a $35 sapphire in. The case also polishes up nicely if the media blasted finish isn't your thing. I personally love my SNK809 and I wear it all the time.

Ich hab mir die Uhr vor etwa 6 Wochen über Amazon gekauft. Zu dem Preis ist es eine echt klasse Uhr. Vorher hatte ich nur Quarz Uhren, das ist meine erste Automatik. Daher war ich ganz erstaunt, dass der Sekundenzeiger 3 Bewegungen pro Sekunde macht, es ist also im Gegensatz zur Quarz eine "fließende" Bewegung. Auch das Ticken der Uhr hört sich dementsprechend an. Ist aber nur zu hören, wenn sie nah ans Ohr gehalten wird. Auf der Rückseite hat sie einen Glasboden, der einen Blick in das interessante Werk zulässt. Man kann die Schwungmasse sehen und darunter die Unruh des Werkes. Zu Beginn hatte sie einen Nachlauf von ca 20 Sekunden am Tag. Ich bin damit zum örtlichen Uhrmacher, der sie für 5 Euro reguliert hat. Jetzt läuft Sie 1-2 Sekunden vor am Tag. Nach Internetrecherche ist das für Automatikuhren ein absoluter Spitzenwert. Das Ziffernblatt gefällt mir sehr gut und die Uhr kann man zum Anzug tragen oder einfach in der Freizeit. Das Armband ist leicht zu wechseln. Es ist ein Automatikwerk Kaliber 7S26 verbaut, was in diversen Foren als AK47- oder Traktorwerk wegen seiner Robustheit bekannt ist. Ich hatte erst Bedenken, dass die Uhr wegen dem Synthetikband billig wirken könnte, da ich sonst immer Uhren mit Metallbändern hatte. Aber dieses Band hat einen sehr angenehmen Tragekomfort und passt einfach gut mit der Uhr zusammen. Der Rand fasert etwas aus, daher musste ich dort kurz mit einem Feuerzeug langgehen, jetzt ist es in Ordnung. Zur Gangreserve kann ich nichts sagen, da ich diese Uhr seit dem Kauf noch nicht wieder abgelegt habe. Sie ist wird wohl mein neuer Daily Rocker bleiben. Die Zeiger und die Stundenpunkte auf dem Ziffernblatt leuchten auch im Dunkeln ganz gut. Im Internet liest man sehr viel Lob darüber, aber ich kann hierbei keinen Unterschied zu den Leuchteigenschaften meiner alten Festina Uhr feststellen. Bin aber hiervor auch nicht enttäuscht. Bisher hat sie auch noch keinen Kratzer, was hoffentlich noch eine Zeit so bleibt. Klar, es ist keine Schweizeruhr, aber ich find sie spitze und als nächstes werd ich mir noch ein Diver Modell mit Lünette von Seiko mit Kautschukarmband anschaffen :-) Nachtrag / Update 06.08.2014 Es gibt wenige Produkte von denen ich echt überzeugt bin. Diese Uhr ist eine davon. 1. Sie hat in mir eine Sammelleidenschaft für automatische Uhren entwickelt 2. Auch wenn sie die einfachste und günstigste in meiner Sammlung ist, ist es meine liebste geworden 3. Unkaputtbar. Nach regelmäßigem Tragen nach zwei Jahren sieht sie insgesamt noch neuwertig aus. Das hat noch keine Uhr bei mir geschafft. 4. Radfahren, Schwimmen, Hitze und Kälte. All das hat ihr nix ausgemacht. 5. Sie passt prima unter Hemden zum Anzug und lässt sich genau so gut in der Freizeit tragen. 6. Hab sie auch in Farbe Sand bestellt :-)

Après deux semaines passées, elle était toujours dans la bonne minute - c'est bluffant pour une montre mécanique. La confiance de Seiko dans la fiabilité de ses montres est telle qu'on ne peut même pas remonter le mécanisme manuellement : la montre ne se recharge que par mouvements, qui font tourner un disque, qui lui même remonte un ressort ou qqch comme ça. En plus de ça, on entend les petits tic tac très légers et très rapides lorsqu'on la colle à l'oreille ; contrairement à une Quartz qui ferait bouger les aiguilles par à-coups, celle-ci diffuse l'énergie beaucoup plus doucement, ce qui donne l'impression que l'aiguille des secondes ne s'arrête jamais. Elle est, encore en plus, vraiment belle et je vous conseille de faire une petite recherche d'images sur internet pour voir le dos de la montre - celui-ci est transparent donc vous verrez les disques s'engrainer. Elle est légèrement petite pour les standards d'aujourd'hui (37 millimètres), ce qui me convenait très bien puisque j'ai des petits poignets et que je n'avais pas l'habitude de porter des montres. Je la conseille vraiment pour ceux qui s'intéressent un peu à ces dernières et veulent leur première mécanique automatique. Le boitier est légèrement haut (13 millimètres), alors on a l'impression d'avoir une petite boite de mécanismes autonomes qui mesurent le temps, et c'est vraiment une sensation agréable.
