how does the cauldron open?

On the back of the cauldron you will want to twist the piece sticking out near the bottom, then you use the pink wand that you’ll find on the lid when you open it. Use that wand to then open the cauldron to reveal your surprise.

What are the differences between the old and new version? Also, the old version has conflicting information, are there 3 or 4 figurines?
