I have read many books on autism. Most are depressing and suggest strategies that treats child as if they are mental and have to be trained like a parrot. My son is neither mental nor a parrot. I have experimented with my son and found ways that work and do not work more by accident. This book confirms everything I have been doing. The things that work and the things never to do. Even better the strategies are very clear and the reason they work is explained. I wish I had found this book before. I now have lots of other ideas that I have already found to work. It has also give me justification for some of the things that I do - that other parents criticise me for. Especially giving him control and avoiding control battles. It works. Buy the book You will not be disappointed.

Amazing book! This should be a mandatory reading for every parent - even if you child is far from having ASD. Raun truly knows what all the business about kids is. Now: my son is not autistic; however, there was a suspicion posed by one of the doctors (after expressing ours concerns). Therefore, when I heard that my child may be autistic I decided to learn about is as much as I could. This book is amazing, it is a well of knowledge - now I understand why I struggle to get my child attention and focus, why he trows tantrums. I know what mistakes I am making and what I need to change in my expectations and behavior. This book opened my eyes very wide - it made me realize that although I have two brilliant children, there is still a lot I need to learn to be a good parent to them. Read this book - it will change your life. It will change your whole understanding of parenthood and raising your children

This is a very good book written in a very understandable way, by someone who understands the problem of autism and the fears and frustrations the parents of autistic children feel. It is a book that rekindles hope, and spurs one to loving action, lifting one out of the fear-freeze pit into which diagnosis of the condition usually throws the parent. I highly recommend it for its paradigm shift potential.

This is essential reading for any parent or carer working with an autistic child or adult. At first I thought here we go another book claiming to be a miracle cure but as I got into the book and picked up on the SonRise program and started to apply the techniques being taught with my son I was astounded by how well it works. I would encourage you to study this book and make up your own mind. I don't believe there are any miracle cures for our sons and daughters. However the program detailed within this book focuses on how to first enter the world of our special children. Encourage them to trust and interact with us and then slowly build the language and social interaction skills which they will need to play a more active and fulfilling role in life. We are very much at the start of this journey but what I have experienced so far is truly incredible. Also the book comes with direct links to a website which provides a lot of free support and advice...

One fact to remember is that autism has no cure but early intervention makes a whole lot difference to one child development. There are concept in this book that can be applied like any other intervention but not one size fits all...

This is a book that will change your life. It's easy to read and will help all parents of autistic children (and those who work with special children) appreciate and realise the limitless potential all children have. As a mother of two great autistic boys, this book really helped me clarify my thinking on the Son Rise Program principles. If ABA just doesn't feel right then buy this book. It will give you a purpose and most importantly, hope.

For whatever the son-rise people may be accused of I'll tell you that these techniques were what helped me fix my relationship with my son. My son wasn't diagnosed until he was 5 years old. Applying the parenting that helped us raise a well-adjusted, kind, responsible neurotypical child was not working. Then there was the fateful visit with a pediatric neuropsychologist. "Your son is autistic." Four words changed everything. I tried to fill my head with as much knowledge as I could. I had never had a sibling, friend, or even acquaintance with autism. My research turned up this gem. Within ONE WEEK of applying these techniques my relationship with my son went from one fraught with frustration, arguing, and yelling where my son wouldn't ever say "I'm sorry" or "I love you" or ever hug me or ever be happy to see me to one where he and I have boatloads of healthy interactions, fun, playing, building legos, playing games, talking, understanding each other, getting along, and yes--getting giant hugs and even "dad--i love you"s in time... Walking through the door went from him running away from me to one where either he looks at me with a "hi, dad!" or sometimes a super tight hug. Of course, there are still days where I'm greeted with a growl or grunt--and now I understand how perfectly fine that is and what it really is. There are still plenty of hard days. But I will forever be grateful to the Kaufmans for their work. Let the haters hate. Let them say they are cultish or that it's solely based on empirical evidence. For all I know, that is totally true. But this book has certainly done more for my relationship with my son than any other therapy. That is NOT a condemnation of the other therapies he has done--his OT is an angel who got him to LOVE water instead of hate it--his child therapist was super helpful with healthier discipline strategies--but for me to UNDERSTAND him and communicate with him there was no greater resource. Because the wake up call was that the only person who had to change was ME. So many helpful, practical, and logical techniques that have changed or household.

Die in diesem Buch gemachten Anregungen und Hinweise zur Interaktion mit Autisten passt zu annährend 100% zu der von mir entwickelten sozialpsychologischen und entwicklungsdynamischen Autismus-Theorie. Auch autistische Kinder KÖNNEN und WOLLEN Interagieren und sich entwickeln! Aufgrund des Fehlens der "unbewussten Gruppenkommunikation" tun sie es nur anders. Wie sie es tun und wie man mit ihnen in Kontakt kommen und kommunizieren kann, zeigt dieses Buch sehr praktisch.

This is the best book on autism that I've read. From his personal experiences and that of his parents, the author offers a completely different approach to work with autistic kids. An approach much more humain compared to the "professional wisdom" I'm grateful that I've found this book and will start applying the techniques to my 5-year old kid... A real life changer.

Such a person book for Raun to write and he does it so well - easy to read and recommend to anyone wanting to help their child.
