Is the inside of the pot stainless steel or is it coated?

It's stainless. And, I might ad, not too difficult to clean. When you're ready to change the oil, I fill it about half to 2 thirds full of water (after dumping the oil) and add dish soap and bring it to a boil with the basket in it, the handle folded in and the lid on. then I let it set for 10-15 minutes. Dump that out and it's easy to clean anything that may have adhered to the inside of the pot or the basket.

Can the lid be used with the basket inside for storage

YES! The handle folds down and the lid can also be put on while boiling the water (I only use it as a near perfect vegetable cooker, so don't know how it might work for deep fat frying). The basket stores nicely inside with the lid on.

Is the basket also stainless steel?

The "magnet test" for stainless steel is a misconception. The most common stainless steel is 300-series (304, 316, etc.) and is non-magnetic 400-series stainless steel is magnetic.
