Theory Made Easy For Little Children Level 1 by Lina Ng provides notes (semibreve, minim, crotchet), number of counts, dotted minim, the piano keyboard, time signatures, barlines, notes in the bass clef, revision notes, games, tests and some manuscript paper to practice music writing. There is also a lesson record and a certificate for signing by a teacher or parent when the book is completed. Specifically suited for children aged 4 to 7, this is the first of two books that present music theory using colourful illustrations and stickers for the exercises. Theory Made Easy For Little Children Level 2 provides revision of material learnt in Level 1 as well as notes in the treble clef (A,B,C), rests, notes in the bass clef (F, E, D, C), position of stems, treble clef, bass clef, games, tests and some manuscript paper to practice music writing. Review: excellent for small children approx age 4 to 9 - I wanted to give my 7 year old some basic music lessons myself and wanted some material to help me as I am not a music teacher and didn't want to put her off with a dry boring approach. This first book first introduces some different length notes with their names and appearance, what stave and clef are and what simple time signatures mean. It goes on to show the pitch of a few notes and where to find them on a keyboard some basic fingering etc The first notes learnt are the cdefg below middle c. These are fine for piano of course but as we are learning guitar it is an octave below the notes beginner guitarists usually start with but not a big issue. I can't recommend the approach the book takes highly enough. The information is presented in tiny increments with lots of repetition and there are loads of colourful stickers to place in boxes, matching games, mazes etc giving the feel of an entertaining activity book. Would think it suitable for an interested 4 year old and still not too insulting for 9 or 10 year old. Obviously not for adults! My daughter has absorbed and retained all the information presented in a painless way and is thoroughly enjoying the game of clapping out rythms to many of mummy's simpler pieces of music. Will be buying further books in the series ASAP. Review: Ideal learning tool for piano - Arrived timeously. Ideal for pre schoolers and p1

Really engaging for beginner young musicians
I bought this for a 5 year old who's just joining the choir I run as our previous very easy theory books were too dry for her. The stickers are an instant hit with this book, and there's just enough input on a page that she can learn without being overwhelmed or bored. I already have level 2 waiting for her, and will be using the books for all new 5 & 6 year olds joining the choir from now on. If I had one complaint, it would be the title, as they really don't like being referred to as "little children" in front of other young singers.

Was asked to buy this book by my daughters music teacher at school. She is learning the guitar and has a book she already learns from, but this was an extra edition to teach her all about recognising notes and so on. The stickers are great as she loves doing the homework involved because she is allowed to stick stickers, which all kids love doing. She is 7 years old so this is ideal for her and makes learning notes and music more fun. Great little book loved by the young ones.

Great series, my children have loved it, but some stickers can unstick themselves too easily
A great series for young children. It does require some basic maths abilities, for example being confident in the knowledge of the different combinations that add up to 4, so you can't start them too early on the theory, but the stickers really help and encourage remembering and recall. My only complaint with this, and the other books in the series, is that the stickers on the edge of the sticker page always come off by themselves once you've started opening the book and it bends on its binding. They can then fall out or get stuck on your arm when you're reaching across the book, and can easily get lost. If the stickers were provided on more pages and not up to the edge, this phenomenon would resolve itself. This is the only reason I couldn't give 5 stars.

Perfect for beginners
I was recommended this book by my 5 year olds piano tutor. He has been playing for a year and it was time for him to get this book, it has helped him improve his skills and he loves his ‘dinosaur piano book’.

Can't get enough theory!
My six year old son was addicted to this book - Theory Made Easy level 1. He would get his book and sit quite happily and complete a couple of pages every morning when he woke up and again at night instead of a bedtime story. Needless to say book was finished within a couple of weeks! Brilliant for early learners. Fun to use and easy to follow. Stickers a great attraction.
