Pilates for over 50's is a gentle and easy to follow introduction to a Pilates beginners programme. Specifically designed for people over 50 who are new to Pilates, The Real People Pilates DVD covers the all important principles, includes mat work and standing exercises that can be done together or on their own. It is structured in such a way that you can watch clips at your own pace or follow along with the course. Although The Over 50s DVDs exercise content has been specifically designed with that age range in mind it is also suitable for beginners of all ages, and is ideal for people who suffer from back pain or newbies. Those who already have experience of Pilates and do not suffer with pain or lack of fitness should consider our second DVD: Pilates for Over 50s 2. Pilates has been shown to be a safe and beneficial form of exercise for conditions such as osteoporosis, arthritis, high blood pressure, pelvic floor issues. Pilates alleviates aches and pains, improves breathing, helps prevent injury, aids physical rehabilitation after hip replacements, back injuries, etc. Presented by Liz Chandler and demonstrated by 3 real clients who have different backgrounds, body types and physical conditions that have benefited from Pilates. Liz Chandler has been teaching Pilates, fitness and dance to Pilates practitioners, professional sports people and the general public for over 20 years. She is certified by the two UK organisations which set the standards for Pilates training: Pilates Foundation UK and Body Control Pilates. Liz presents at internationals conferences and runs professional development workshops for Pilates teachers and physiotherapists. Real People Pilates DVDs have been featured in My Weekly, Saga, Yours magazine and Womens Health Review: Really good instruction for this very gentle exercise program - Only just bought this yesterday. My husband currently has very bad sciatica caused by sitting and working from home. I am doing the exercises with him. We have so far done the mat work section twice. It is a very, very gentle exercise DVD, but absolutely perfect for him, as he can hardly move! The instruction is very clear to follow and I think it is an excellent DVD. Very well taught. We need to do the standing section next. Review: slow & easy - Wouldn't say this dvd is for over 50 more over 70! Parents found this too slow and they are mid 50's. Bought this as it's slow & i have m.e or cfs. Nice and gentle exercises, easy to follow.

Really good instruction for this very gentle exercise program
Only just bought this yesterday. My husband currently has very bad sciatica caused by sitting and working from home. I am doing the exercises with him. We have so far done the mat work section twice. Great as an introduction to Yoga
If you need to convince someone that they should try Yoga this is the DVD for you. It's not too demanding, anyone just starting out can do it, to the limit of their abilities, which will improve fairly quickly. What is great is that anyone who has a tendency to say things like "Yes, but... " to find excuses not to do exercises, really can't say that about this dvd, as it is clear what your options are if you are too unfit to do the perfect pose. It goes slow enough, with enough verbal descriptions, that you do not need to keep your eye on the TV at all times, and if your memory is bad it's still easy to follow. If you are more experienced this is not the DVD for you, whether you are over 50 or not. Think of ordering a small yoga block otherwise you'll need a cushion to do some of the exercises - which is fine of course but it's more fun to get started with the right gear!!

Extremely gentle exercises
The instructions given by the trainer are clear but the exercises are too gentle for me and I'm a 64 year old sciatica sufferer. I think the dvd is probably more suitable for the over 70s or those with an extremely bad back condition.

Excellent tuition for those unable to make classes
Brought for my partner who needs to strengthen his core as an old injury has knocked him out of balance and he is noticing a strained feeling after a hard day at work. Classes not an option due to work and caring responsibilities so we studied reviews and went for this set. A couple of months on he's really noticing a difference in his core strength and posture- I've really noticed a difference too. Proud of him for sticking at it but he says this was easy as the dvd tuition is well explained and demonstrated. Already be is suffering less after a day of heavy lifting so this has been well worth it.

GREAT
Great pilates dvd that focuses on improving fitness, stamina, strength, posture, balance and mobility. Two easy to follow workouts. This would benefit anybody and not just those over the age of 50. I am pleased with my purchase and would buy again.

This is a great dvd and Liz explains so well
This is a great dvd and Liz explains so well. The only issue I have is that you need wall space to do the Standing workout and the small flat I stay in does not have that so I am unable to do that section.

Brilliant
I was a little dubious that this would be far too simple and not give much of a workout but I was wrong. It is straightforward and easy to follow but, as a 71 year old, I found it helped me a lot. It is easy to follow and doesn't involve standing on one leg at all. As I have really bad balance issues I found it all possible to do without a problem but, by the end of the exercises, I felt I had "worked" and got my muscles moving. I notice there is a second dvd for when I have progressed and will be buying that one too.

my grandmother, who is 56, needed something to keep her active and energized, without being too worn out for the remainder of the day, so I got her this. She really seems to enjoy it, and has been using it a few times a week.

Really easy moves. It's pretty short. All lying and standing still exercises. Mostly it;s about breathing correctly and neutral spine positions. It's great for someone in need of e recovery program.

I think it presents a very safe routine but even with my age and arthritis problems, it was a bit too slow and cautious.

Very good video. Too slow paced for me and I am 70. I enjoyed doing it. It works if you can memorize the positions you don't have to listen to the dialogue over and over again..

I was expecting a lot more from this video than i got. I would think anyone age 80 could do the simplistic routines taught here. This DVD was instructional but very basic. If you have done any Pilates, it is not for you.
