KOHLER K-8801-VS Duostrainer Sink Strainer with Tailpiece, Fits Most Standard Kicthen Sinks, Vibrant Stainless

I purchased the vibrant stainless model. Unbelievably heavy duty! It all appears to be solid stainless including the strainer/stopper. The only components not stainless are the rubber gasket, galvanized pressure plate which presses up against the gasket and the brass nut that secures the pipe to the drain. In my case I didn't need the stainless extension pipe - I just used the plastic nut and gasket from my previous installation. The strainer/stopper works perfectly. The drain was super easy to install with the 3 heavy stainless screws. Absolutely beautiful install compared to anything else I have ever seen. Not sure about the other finishes of this same item being coated or plated and issues with that but this version is the real deal. My wife used to pour bleach into our white ceramic sink to remove the marks left from pans, etc. It completely removed the chrome over time from the previous drain to reveal an ugly oxidized brass surface. She won't be using bleach anymore but I don't think it would be a problem if she did.

Heavy duty well made drain with removable expender

I was very surprised at how nice this drain fixture is. I know its just a drain for sink, but this thing has some weight to it. The main body is not just a stamped piece of metal. The upper part is a nice stainless steel and fit the sink perfectly. (Kohler Sink as well). The strainer part is nice looking as well. The stopper uses an O-ring for the seal, which could be cheaply and easily replaced if ever needed. For me, this strainer/drain was worth the extra money. I know I could have spent as little as $12 for essentially the same thing, but there is no comparison between the two as far as durability and appearance.

This strainer is expensive compared to others, but as I'm spending a considerable amount of money renovating my kitchen with a new sink, fixtures and granite countertops, I didn't want to skimp on the plumbing. I could tell this item was good quality based solely on the weight of the shipping box. The strainer is made entirely of heavy-gauge stainless steel, which is polished like fine jewelry, and brass. I expect this strainer will last for a very long time. My only concern is that the rubber gasket on the stopper is very thin (1/8"). I expect this gasket will eventually fail and need replacement. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase of this strainer.

This is a well built and good looking piece but it should be for the price. It definitely looks better than the stuff you get at the box stores. I partcularly like the concept of using an O ring for the seal. We have had ours in for six months and it is still wsorking fine. But it is nice to know that when the seal ages and wears out like all seals eventually do, all you need to do is go get as new ring. Our plumber installed it with a new faucet and he liked it and didn't have any trouble installing it.

After about a year the o-ring would fall off every time we removed the strainer, and it will not hold water if the o-ring isn't on. I did a google search and found that it is a common problem, which then led me to a site where I was able to buy some o-rings of much better quality. Price? 25 o-rings delivered for $4.00 Shouldn't have to replace a 16 cent part after a year on a drain costing over a hundred dollars.

This is my third install of this sink strainer on my third Kohler sink. I'm pleased with this one, and the prior two. It's solid, very easy to install securely, and it looks great. I considered the oil-rubbed bronze to match my brown Kennon sink, but there were too many complaints about the finish. Never had such an issue with the stainless, so went with it as safer choice. It's pricey, though. The 33" Kennon sink, with discounts, was only $250.

Like all the other reviews, wow, heavy cast iron, great quality product, as usual with Kohler. ::Heads Up!!:: The drain plug has an o-ring that mught have to be lubricated to seat properly in the basket. My sink couldn't hold water for five minutes. After a few days I put liquid dawn dishsoap on the o-ring with my finger, tested it and the sink held water overnight. Had soap not worked I probably would have tried olive oil. 2 weeks later and still good.

Now this is a sink strainer! None of that thin sheet metal in this strainer. This is made from cast stainless steel. Kohler is the best hands down. I actually installed this in my motorhome as I couldn’t stop the thin sheet metal one’s that I had from leaking. This one doesn’t leak and probably never will, it’s built like a tank.

These sink drainers are built like tanks! Definitely heavy-duty and of the highest quality. Maybe a bit of "overkill", but if you are spending $1,000+ for your sink and want the drains to match the stainless steel this is the way to go.

Worth every penny, no cheap plastic here

Met my expectation. My plumber said he never see solid metal strainer like those one. Nice basket with practical opening.
