Great fun even with a tantrummy six-year-old
My little niece (I don't think my sister would like me to use her name) is a delightful child at best, but doesn't like losing. I was a bit apprehensive about introducing her to a new game, because I was afraid that if she didn't win she would have a tantrum. To my great relief, though, she and her nine-year-old brother had a great time with it. The game itself is easy to learn (though admittedly my niece often had help), the pictures delightful, and play contains plenty of chances for the lead to change hands without being too random. The authors have done particularly good work in making sure the rules are clear. At one point, in a round when the winning score was 40 points, I scored 45. My niece shouted "You broke the roo-els!" I referred to the leaflet in the box, and there is a roo-el which says that you don't have to have that exact number of points to win: just to have that much or better. As well as playing it with the adults, the children also played it by themselves, which I felt was a sign of its success. As the game involves only cards, it would be easy to take on journeys to play in a train or aircraft, though I haven't let my sister remove it from this house because it was so popular here. The minimum age limit of 8 is probably sensible, because it requires arithmetic, but as the queen cards which have the scores on them don't have to be kept secret it is quite possible for a child who can't add to leave them out in the open and have someone else add the scores up. Strongly recommended.

Brilliant card game - fun for kids and grown ups
Such a brilliant game. I am playing it with my 8 year old daughter who thinks itās the best game sheās ever played (better than Dobble and Uno)! I thought the concept might be tricky to understand but after a couple of rounds we were both hooked. As other reviewers have mentioned, I was also worried that she would be annoyed at the competitive element but to my surprise she got that this was part of the game and relished in it. I would 100% recommend

Lots of fun, teaches sportsmanship, everyone in our family enjoys this game.
This is our favourite game to play as a family. We have gifted it to a couple of friends and would highly recommend it. It has racked up more playtime than any of our other games and often we will play two or three rounds back to back. One game can be about 10-20 minutes. When we first got it we had to play through a couple of times but once it clicked itās a very easy concept to pick up. Itās been great for teaching about sportsmanship - thereās no point losing your mind if a play goes against you as you might be able to pull it back round later, and you canāt be too hurt by an aggressive play as thatās the whole point of the game. Itās difficult to overstate what a positive impact that has had - turning āattackingā moves into silly, funny moments has eased a lot of tension between my 5 & 7yo and thatās a great thing to learn in board games. My highly motivated, game-loving 5yo picked it up quite easily but it took my less motivated older child a few more goes to get it - thankfully the artwork and characters pulled her in. Even Granny cottoned on after a few plays! Really recommend this game, itās a lot of fun.

Lots of fun
Sleeping Queens is a charming and quick-to-learn card game that's perfect for family game nights. Designed for 2-5 players, the objective is to wake up the most queens by using strategy and a little bit of luck. The game features colorful, whimsical artwork that adds to its fun, lighthearted vibe. Players use number cards to perform actions like waking up queens, stealing queens from opponents, or putting queens back to sleep. Thereās also an element of strategy in choosing when to use your action cards, making it a blend of luck and tactics. The game is easy for kids to pick up (ages 8+), yet still enjoyable for adults, with enough depth to keep everyone engaged. Itās fast-paced, typically lasting around 20 minutes, which makes it perfect for shorter play sessions. With its simple rules and engaging gameplay, Sleeping Queens is a great choice for both kids and adults looking for a fun, casual card game.

Nice game. Easy and quick to play.
We bought this for our boys at Christmas. They absolutely love it and have been playing with it regularly since getting it. The rules are simple to understand and each game is relatively fast which means they can play a round or two before bedtime for example.

Great for a 5/6 year old, but would avoid for the suggested 8+ age range
This is a fab game for a 5 year old or 6 year old where you want a mixture of luck (so that the adult doesn't always win!) with some decisions to make. I wouldn't recommend it for the 8+ age range suggested though. It also works much better as a 3 player game than as a 2 player game - most of the decisions are about who to target, so having some choice helps! At the start of the game there are lots of queen cards laid face down in the middle. Each player has five cards in their hand. You take it in turns, play one card each turn and replenish to five cards at the end of your turn. You can use a King card to wake up a queen and put it in front of you and the objective is to be the first player to get five queens in front of you (or 50 points - each queen has a points value). There are other cards that steal queens from other players, put queens back to sleep, stop other players who are playing those cards etc. As well as these special cards, there are number cards which don't do anything, and you can switch these for other cards instead of playing a special card - either singly, as a pair of the same number or as three which make a sum. The fact that the number cards don't actually do anything feels slightly unsatisfactory from a game design perspective but doesn't detract from the game too much in practice. I actually quite enjoy playing it, which is quite an important criteria for games for that age - a lot of games for 5 or 6 year olds are just really dull to play. The pictures on the cards are lovely too. It's definitely not an interesting enough game for older kids or adults though.

Pkay this with my 7 year old a lot. It took her a few games but now she can beat me! It's easy enough to pick up and interesting to play with some competitiveness regarding stealing queen's/putting them back to sleep. The instructions aren't too clear on what to do with a number card if turning one over after a joker (do you add it to your hand or leave it on he discard pule?) but that's really the only fault I could pick. We really enjoy it.
