From the Publisher Covering everything from periods and breast development to mood swings, self-esteem and personal hygiene These reassuring guides will boost confidence and encourage children aged 9+ to feel positive about the changes they will experience as they go through puberty A Girls' Guide to Growing Up also includes lifestyle advice on topics like healthy eating and exercise, as well as information on how puberty affects the opposite sex Review: Made difficult conversations much easier - I cannot recommend this book highly enough! As a parent, I was dreading having "the talk" with my daughter about puberty and all the changes coming her way, but this book made everything so much easier and more natural. My daughter absolutely loves the format. It's friendly, reassuring, and written in a way that speaks directly to girls her age without being patronising or too clinical. The book covers topics ranging from periods and breast development to mood changes and self-esteem, and everything is explained so clearly and sensitively. The illustrations are perfectly age-appropriate and help make potentially awkward topics feel completely normal. What really impressed me was how this book opened up conversations between us that I wasn't sure how to start. We've been reading sections together, and she now feels comfortable asking me questions about things that might have felt too embarrassing before. She even picks it up on her own to read bits she's curious about, which shows how engaging and accessible it is. The content strikes the perfect balance. It's comprehensive without being overwhelming, and it addresses worries about what's "normal" in such a reassuring way. I love that it also includes information about how puberty affects boys and touches on self-esteem and body image, making it a really well-rounded guide. 5 stars. Review: Good little book - informative - Iโm pleased with this book - my daughter is 11 and is quite young for her age - and I found the level of detail and the illustrations about right for her. I was a but surprised at how thin the book was - but thatโs my fault for not looking at the number of pages. But to be honest my daughter wouldnโt have engaged with anything longer or more detailed, so this was just right for her.

Very good book
This is a great book and we highly recommend it, my 9 year old found it extremely useful and easy to read to herself, though we did read it together cover to cover when it first arrived. It has great illustrations and isnโt too daunting. Very useful and helpful book.

A great book for younger kids (8-10), not the period page though
The only drawback is that it does not explain periods well, all scientific info without simply saying that it is a monthy bleed from your vagina. If you don't already know about periods you would not understand what they are from this explanation, see a photo of the page. We bought the 4 books in my photos for our 8.5yo and although this book in particular is pretty simplistic I think we will wait until she is 9. I think this one is best for 9-10 range, have returned Puberty for Tween Girls as that one ir very wordy is def better for 11yo+. Keeping What's Happening to Me simply because it explains periods so much better and has some extra info on all topics. All these books explain sex but kids between 9 and 10 are generally ready for that info (it gets covered in year 5 at school and I feel it is better if it comes from parents before the school explains it so they feel they can approach the parents in regards to this subject).

Great book
Parents, please do your daughter a favour and have The Talk in private BEFORE your primary school does. Your child deserves to hear this from you. We did and as we have a bookworm, we introduced this to the situation as well. It's an easy read, with great illustrations and a relaxed tour through the area. Ours was ready when school covered it and laughed when I asked what she learned in class. Mission accomplished.

Great for my young daughter
I bought this for my 9 year old who is gradually heading towards puberty. We talk openly about changes and such but I thought this would be a good way for her to read things independently, discuss it together and help her understand from an independent perspective. There have been numerous occasions she's mentioned things she's read and it's helped prompt conversations. I like the tone of the book as educational but not lecture like. I does talk about sex beyond the mechanics which some parents may not like (that there is a pleasurable acspect) but I.like that this isn't avoided but is approached in an approved way. I'd definitely recommend this book and if you're uncertain have a read through first. I know some adults who could benefit from some of the information enclosed.

Sensible information for young girls
I purchased this book after searching extensively for one that is suitable for a young girl. I wanted something that approaches the changes they go through both physically and emotionally in a sensitive, responsible and age-appropriate way. The information in this book is accessible to girls ages 8+, and offers a good way to introduce the topic of puberty to a child. It's been written and illustrated in a way that allows young readers to dip in and out as they need to, and come back to it again and again. The section on sex gives just enough detail to explain it, and my daughter seemed satisfied with that for now. What I liked about this book is that it offers girls helpful information that doesn't misinform them about the realities of their female bodies, and offers helpful advice in an age-appropriate, sensible, and sensitive way. We've found it's worked well in broaching the whole subject of puberty and opened up the opportunity for her to ask her dad and I questions as they occur to her. It's a lovely book.

This is the perfect little book for my fourth-grade daughter. So glad I bought it. I wanted her to be informed about human biology as she will enter middle school next year, but I wasn't sure how to explain everything from periods, matters and details of hygiene, to how babies are made without making her (or me, maybe) feel awkward. I have mom friends who are great at such explanations, while I have to think for quite some time how to say what and when. As she is reading the book, I can now talk to her about the content. She likes reading it so far. The content covers everything from the body changes to expect from puberty to where babies come from in short, factual, effective, child-appropriate, and friendly phrasing. The author succeeds at making girls feel normal about their soon-to-change bodies and gives them the information they need to understand what is going on. The illustrations show enough to support the text but without making the reading experience "weird." It is an informative book that even featured a fact or two (about the brain) that I wasn't aware of. Overall, the book normalizes puberty and girl's bodies, assures girls that they have control (to shave or not, to use different menstrual products that suit them, to continue sports), leaves room for inclusion (girls might find themselves thinking about a boy or a girl as they get older), addresses that boys undergo significant changes too, and provides the groundwork for other discussions we need to have with our kids as they grow older (it mentions that adults may use birth control to not have babies but does not go into detail).

This book is phenomenal, THIS BOOK SPEAKS TRUTH and sugar coats nothing which I love. Its very detailed not only in words but great pictures. It shows children of the same sex or opposite that not all bodies are the same and give examples and reasons. I bought the girl and boy version of this for my son and daughter who are going on their 10th birthdays soon. I remember starting my period at age 11 so they aren't far off from puberty. (Hygiene part has already been here and body changes have started). This book is just perfect and very pleasing to read
