HP 301XL Black Original Ink Cartridge, High Yield

With all the controversy recently over HP and unbranded cartridges no longer working, and the sometimes poor quality of third party inks, I always think it's worth getting the originals. The printer we have is unfortunately one of those with a single cartridge for the cyan, magenta and yellow colours, and a second for black. This means that if you only use lots of blue, when that colour runs out you have to replace the whole colour cartridge, even if the yellow and magenta portions are still full. This is a failing of the printer design though, rather than the cartridge, and these cartridges are made to support that design, but unfortunately it does increase the overall cost compared to separate cartridges. What I like about the printer design, is that there is no inbuilt print head, and you get a new one built into every ink cartridge, meaning no messy blockages, failure and expense over time. The printhead in these cartridges, being official HP, is perfect, giving a perfect print, whether draft on plain paper, or best quality on glossy photo paper. The XL cartridges last us months, and if you don't print off that many pages, they're great value compared to the subscription based ink direct from HP. I would certainly recommend these cartridges over third party generic ones, and if you're not printing loads of sheets every month, over the HP subscription too. The best make good price

Arrived promptly and just what I needed. I have been using HP 301 cartridges in my 3050A printer for a few years. I always have issues with the recycled ones so I tend to buy HP. The standard one prints around 60 pages whereas this one prints about 3x the amount. I would not say it is as much as 480 on the listing. The expiring date on the ink was x It is the same dimensions as a normal 301 just has more ink inside. The set up is easy with a test page. I did not get any warnings about the cartridge on the screen. The quality of print is good. In terms of value ink is not cheap but I think these offer better value than the standard 301 and I have had a look around and the current price is competitive. Expensive (compared to printer price) but good product. We've tried a number of non-HP refills but none seemed to work consistantly and quite a high percentage were DOA. Tip: We ensure our HP black and HP colour ink cartriges last a very long time by changing the default printer settings to 'black ink only' and 'draft' printing (which is as good now as 'normal' was a few years ago). That way each print job automatically prints with those settings. If we need colour and/or normal/best printing, we change the settings just before printing on a case by case basis. Black ink only and draft works 95+% of the time for our needs, hence these as our default settings. Worth the search in the 'Start' menu, then 'control panel', then printer options or settings (settings vary by OS). Look for 'draft' option and change to default, then look for the 'advanced' button/tab to change the other default to 'black ink only' (may be a pull down menu item). Be persistant, the printer manufacurers are sneaky in hiding these setting changes. They want you to use your ink quickly so you have to change cartridges more often - that's how they make most of their money (consumable revenue stream). Good luck!
