All six OVA episodes from the Japanese anime series following a group of schoolgirls who participate in the martial art known as 'the way of the tank'. In this collection the Oarai students head out on a camping trip, the girls take a closer look at the interiors of the school ship and Yukari (voice of Ikumi Nakagami) encounters some trouble on a reconnaissance mission. The episodes are: 'Water War!', 'Survival War!', 'School Ship War!', 'Anglerfish War!', 'Snow War!' and 'Banquet War!'. Review: Panzer Vor! - The sport of Tankery (Sensha-do) sees women and girls fight each other in Second World War era tanks. Miho Nishizumi transferred into Ôarai Girls' Academy to get away from the sport due to a traumatic experience in her last match but as the new year begins she discovers that Ôarai is restarting their Tankery program. As the only person with any experience in the sport the Student Council pressure Miho to join the program forcing her to come to terms with her past and her family. This first season of 'Girls und Panzer' was the surprise hit of the Autumn 2012 anime season that despite a somewhat troubled production managed to become popular enough to get a second series announced as well as a movie. The series is very entertaining with some very nice tank battles mixed with some good humour and an entertaining, if basic, plot. There are also a few moments throughout the series where the makers show their knowledge of World War II tanks and although there are some moments where realism takes a little knock these are generally forgivable due to how entertaining they are (such as the tank drifting). The characters in the series are all very good with my favourites probably being the history obsessed Hippo Team. The animation of the series is generally good even if the CGI tanks don't gel well with the more traditional animation in places but even this is better than in some series I have seen. The battles are all very good with the battles against the British themed St. Gloriana and the second half of the fight against the Soviet themed Pravda being especially entertaining. The final battle against the German themed Kuromorimine (Black Forest Peak) is also extremely good and a great way to end the series. Both English and Japanese versions of the soundtrack are included of course and while I would say that the Japanese version is better, the English dub is still good despite having a few issues. For the most part the English dub does away with the original Japanese honorifics but strangely retains them in some places (using sempai at one point and a couple of others). As well as this, the term Tankery doesn't sound quite as good as the original Sensha-do (although it is better than Tank-Fu or Tankwondo that I have seen used in some places). Other than these minor issues though the English dub is relatively good with all the voices generally suiting their characters, although some took some getting used to, especially Rozie Curtis's performance as Student Council President Anzu Kadotani. Of the English voices my favourites were probably Caitlynn French voicing Hana Isuzu and Molly Searcy as Mako Reizei. The music used in the series is very good with a good opening and ending song as well as nice versions of the British Grenadiers March and he Battle Hymn of the Republic. Unfortunately due to copyright issues Pravda's brilliant rendition of the Soviet song Katyusha had to be replaced with an instrumental version of the traditional Russian folk song Korobeiniki (best known from Tetris) which isn't quite as good. For extras the set contains the usual clean opening and closing sequences, as well as a number of trailers. Also included in the extras are episodes 5.5 and 10.5, introductory clip shows that were included in the original run of the show due to the trouble the animation studio were having with the series. The closest series that I would compare 'Girls und Panzer' to is probably the mah-jong anime 'Saki' (one of my favourite series). Both series have a main character who is disillusioned with a sport/game only to rediscover their love for it with the help of friends and take their team to the national championships to have a showdown with their estranged older sister. 'Girls und Panzer' just has tanks instead of superpowered yuri mah-jong. While I still think 'Saki' is the better series (due to having more time to develop its characters) 'Girls und Panzer' is still extremely entertaining and is probably one of my current top ten anime series and as such is more than worthy of a full five stars. I'm not a great anime fan but this is quality
I'm not a great anime fan but this is quality. Excellent artwork, the tanks are well reproduced and the script is quite funny. Don't be put off by the fact that the crews are High School girls, there is no overt sexualisation that is sometimes found in female anime characters. Recommended to World of Tank drivers by none other than The Mighty Jingles.

Excellent... but
This is the sort of anime that people shouldn't attempt to rationalise or criticise. It's one of those anime collections that should just be watched. The idea of a load of huge aircraft carriers, modified into schools for girls was a stretch. Adding to this the idea that as one of the curricular choices is 'Tankery' is a stretch too far. Although it's done quiet well. All the tanks involved are lovingly detailed so fans of the tank world can recognise them straight away. War tactics are genuine also, so the action is believable and easy to follow. However I would have liked for there to be a greater emphasis on showing more tank training and battles. The series is a short twelve episode collection, following a group of girls who take up Tankery and enter a tank tournament. However there is a lot of moments in the series where they seem to spend more time looking at the girls and their lives, rather than the tanks, which for me become the stars. If the series were a few more episodes longer, maybe the spotlight on the girls would be entertained. Unfortunately the series is a little too short and leaves me thinking I wanted to see more of the tank battles. Of the battles they show, you should not be disappointed though. Strategies on the fly and a good mix of tanks on display make for interesting set pieces. This isn't a series where you get flashes of skin constantly from the girls by the by. Don't expect to see schoolgirl panties and other sexually provocative moments every five minutes. However there are a couple of scenes that are in there for the boys to enjoy. This show in my opinion should have been longer and had more emphasis on the tanks. However what is on show is a very good mix and would in my opinion be a recommended series.

Brilliant Anime
The entire show is perfect (in my honest opinion). The tanks are cool, the girls are cool and the visuals and soundtracks are cool. This series has become my favourite anime ever and I've already purchased all of the movies to go along with it. I highly recommend watching this anime if you haven't already and if you have then watch it again. Nothing will ever be as good as this and I shall love this anime till I die (but even after I die I'll still love it).

This is an excellent support for the series and does much to answer ...
Neat and almost educational in the way that as well as being amusing it gave insights into Japanese culture. Much of the goings on and information are relayed through the girls chatting and, in its way, this is amusing in its own right. This is an excellent support for the series and does much to answer questions about the weird world of the anime. Those looking for action though will be disappointed but that is never usually the intention of ovas.

Girls Und Panzer: TV Collection [Blu-ray] [2012] [US Import]
Moe meets tanks, Miho transfers in to Ooarai academy to start a new school life away from tankery. Here she meets Saori and Hana. But unkown to her the student body president wants to start up tankery at Ooarai academy to save the school from being closed down. With her two new friends Miho reluctantly joins the tankery class. The anime is not you're usual moe characters in short skirts climbing over tanks flashing their panties there is no fanservice at all in this anime it is all about the girls and the tanks they drive, it has a fast story line which takes the girls from learning to operate the tanks to winning the national championship. A well drawn anime with all the tanks drawn in perfect detail. So join Miho and friends as they battle their way through the sport of tankery.

I own a few books about WWII tanks and have watched many documentaries on WWII tanks. Needless to say, I really enjoy things about tanks! Especially in video games or TV shows! That being said, I also play an online game that has everything to do with these things called, "World of Tanks," and it is how I first heard about this anime. Some people absolutely hate it, but many more absolutely love it! I first saw this show being streamed on Crunchyroll (an anime streaming website) and after hearing about it from some fellow online-players, I decided to give it a shot. For the first two episodes, I honestly couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous (but entertaining) the concept of little Japanese high school girls shooting each other in tanks was. However, by the third episode not only was I hooked, but I suddenly was taking the show a lot more seriously! The concept is pretty far-fetched, admittedly, but the show is an absolute blast! And honestly, I don't think I could even use a calculator to add up all of the "far-fetched" anime plot lines out there! In comparison, this one is pretty damned believable. Just a few of the amazingly well-drawn tanks you will see in this anime are: Pz.Kpfw. IV, Sturmgeschütz III Ausf. F., M3 Lee, Sherman Firefly, Elephants, Pz.Kpfw 38(t), Cromwells, Jagdpanthers and even a Maus!. The list goes on and on and you can check under the Wikipedia entry for this anime for a few more of the tanks you will see. Fact of the matter is, however, that you WILL NOT find a movie, cartoon, television series or any type of viewing material that will show you more tanks in action than this show does! Okay, I must admit, the Military Channel's, "Greatest Tank Battles" probably will have this beat, because it is a historical depiction of tanks and tank tactics and not one meant solely for "entertainment purposes." But barring that... this show is FANTASTIC and definitely wins the medal of most unique and entertaining anime! Amazingly enough, the tanks are drawn perfectly and exactly like their real-life counterparts. And the show will even help you learn a little bit about tank mechanics! They talk about penetration, distance, modifications and armoring among other things. Also, one might assume that the anime would be predominantly about the dramatic lives of Japanese high-school girls with a sprinkle of episodes regarding tanks... however, this is not so! Tank battles and character development are interwoven deeply and I would say that they both appear about 50% of the time and at perfect, well-timed moments. This show got surprisingly big in Japan and they even have plans to import it this year to NA/EU (Dec. 3rd 2013 by Sentai Filmworks). It is pretty short, with only 12 episodes, so it isn't a huge time-investment either. Already, more OVA's and even an entire movie are being worked up to follow the huge success of "Girls und Panzer"! Honestly, there is no reason not to like this show (unless you don't like anime or don't like tanks; failing those however, NO REASON whatsoever!). Although some obvious reality of the show has to be cut to make for an entertaining anime series (and really, they do this in board games and video games ALL the time), it stays as true as possible to real tank battles and they use real tank tactics! Not to mention, I loved the "World of Tanks" plug they did in the show, which is apparently where the creator got the inspiration for it. I would recommend this to just about anyone who is either interested in tanks, anime, both, or is wanting a truly unique series! It's an addicting show, with interesting characters and a great balance of drama and action! But I must point out that if you are not easily entertained, that you *MUST* stick with it until Episode 3, where the first tank-battle actually occurs before you begin to make judgments. Even then, I would watch the "Battle with Pravda (Ep 7)" (an amazing and epic battle) before throwing out words of resentment and discouragement to others who might otherwise be genuinely interested in this show. This show really is great, but you have to give it an honest chance! With some pretty epic tank battles, its incredible originality and enjoyable plot line, I definitely give the, "Panzer Vor!" for "Girls und Panzer!" \( ^_^)/ Edit: Oh! There is also a video of the dubbed version from Sentai Filmworks! You can find it by going to Youtube and searching for, "Girls und Panzer Sentai Filmworks." -- Honestly, the propaganda reminds me a lot of 'Rosie the Riveter,' but with tanks!!!
