This adaptor worked perfectly with my iPad 10th generation. What surprised me is how much faster the iPad is wired directly to a POE switch (with this adaptor) than on WIFI. Once a cable is run to your POE switch, this adaptor is plug and play. Very easy to install. And it is quite small. It will easily fit into a standard electrical box for wall mounting applications.

This POE data adaptor was ordered so that I could use an extra Android tablet as a wall-mounted controller for my "Home Assistant" system. It both charges it and connects it to the CAT6 hardwired Ethernet network. The adaptor only supports a 100 Mbps Ethernet connection. It does not operate at gigabit speeds. That's fine for Home Assistant because all it does is control lights and display device status updates. I performed a speed test on one of the online speed testing websites and received the full 60 Mbps that my internet service offers. It's worth noting that this POE to USB-C adaptor does NOT work at all unless it's connected to a POE-capable switch or router, or there is a POE injector downstream. I have some USB-to-Ethernet adaptors that work just fine when plugged into a non-POE Ethernet cable. This one only works if the Ethernet has POE voltage on it. Just be sure you understand that before ordering. The housing is quite small and lightweight, and it has a couple of tabs for mounting screws. However, it's light enough that double-sided tape would hold it in place just fine. It has functioned perfectly from day one. Never have I had a network disconnection, nor has the tablet ever failed to maintain a 100% charge level. The housing remains cool to the touch while operating, despite not having any ventilation holes. I had never heard of "PoE Texas" before getting this product, but I'm impressed. This is a top-notch product, and I couldn't be happier.

I first tested this on a Kindle Fire 10 in, powered by a POE switch that can put out more than enough to power it, and this splitter did charge it while the screen was off, but not enough to keep the screen on. The Fire is not the most power efficient tablet on the market, and is not listed in the supported devices in the product listing, so I believe it would be enough power for tablets it claims to support. The Fire also did not recognize the Ethernet connection provided by the splitter, but my laptop did (with the POE turned off), so again the fault of the Fire, not the splitter. With both POE and data confirmed, I'm confident that this would be great for low power needs, though I'm puzzled why it can't provide a higher wattage and support more devices.

If you're looking to use tablets in an in-wall installation, the greatest challenge is figuring out the right way to provide power. Power over Ethernet is designed explicitly for situations like this - most security cameras support it, for example - but tablets with a proper Ethernet port are super rare. This adapter, from PoE Texas, is a PoE-to-USB-C adapter that would be perfect for most Android tablets that support USB-C charging. (Other products would be better if you need a Lightning cable or a 5V USB cable.) Compared to other adapters, this one is uniquely ideal because it supplies both Ethernet data and power to a tablet in a single plug. Note that this adapter is 10/100, not gigabit. That's not typically an issue in most kiosk applications, where full speed bandwidth isn't critical, but it's worth considering. The charging power is also pretty limited - the adapter can supply at most 5V/2A, which is fine for most tablets powered 24x7 that need trickle-charging but which might be insufficient for fast charging a device from empty.
