Moon Time: Harness the ever-changing energy of your menstrual cycle : Pearce, Lucy H.: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Shows you a different approach to your periods - If you've never really taken much notice of your periods before (other than just checking the dates and possibly dreading them) then I would recommend reading this book. This book takes a more spiritual look at your monthly cycle and shows you how important it is and how it should be viewed in a more positive way. Sound a bit hippy/ new age? Don't worry, some sections are but most sections are fairly mainstream and I think approachable for all women regardless of age/beliefs/lifestyle Some great information on a girl's first period and how it should be celebrated - if you have a young daughter approaching her teens this book could give you some good ideas on how to make that first period less daunting and something to be celebrated. Overall an enjoyable read. Life-changing. Eye-opening. Must have. Simply brilliant.
This book is a must have.I just wish I read it when I was a teenager or when a male gynaecology consultant with a dotty bow tie was telling me how the pill "was the most safe birth control option". He didn't convince me,though, but throughout years I've seen my friends suffer from this "safe option" with side effects ranging from bad acne, rapid weight gain, severe mood swings and even suicidal/self-injury urges. "Moon time" is a life-changing book, truly. It opens your eyes to breathtakingly beautiful connection to the moon, tells you about amazing rituals and ceremonies you can have for yourself or your daughter(s) that connect women to other women as well as return them to themselves, to their roots, to the divine and dark cycles that nowadays get literally cut off and medicated to extent of losing this natural connection. It will tell you about The Red Tent movement and about The Moon Lodges. About the real natural birth control. It will teach you in the most gentle and caring way as is the tone of this whole book. Buy this book for yourself, for your sisters, blood and spiritual, for your daughter, for any woman you wish to see returning to her roots, reclaiming her time of the month, gaining insight and perspective and just starting to feel herself again, unapologetic and full of wisdom. I couldn't recommend any other book more than I'm recommending "Moon Times". It's simply brilliant. Let it guide you to your true self.

Getting back in touch with our rhythms
Lucy's book is a warm and friendly invitation to look at our womanly rhythms and make friends with all the different phases we go through in the context of our monthly cycle and equally, at the various different stages of our womanhood. By embarking on a journey of greater understanding of ourselves, of how we think and behave at different times of the month or the different ages of womanhood, we are able to nurture ourselves and each other more appropriately. This book will not eliminate cramps or crabbiness, or other period related problems, but it will help us to think more closely about how we can jiggle our commitments around so we can plan for quiet, nurturing, introspective time and outgoing, busy periods to coincide with our monthly clock. How hard we work to make that possible is up to us. Like all great teachers, she simply shows a path, which the reader can take as far as they want.... and by reminding us of our connection to the moon, to ancient rhythms, we can find a more peaceful way of embracing our many different phases, not just at 'Moon Time'.

There was nothing ground breaking or new in here for me but it's a really lovely book, easy to read an very accessible to any kind of woman as a friendly introduction to becoming more at home with our cyclical nature and how to be kind to ourselves in this way. I though the author was warm and humble, would recommend it xxx

Excellent for mothers
Lucy explores how to live and work by our menstrual cycles with information on the different phases, charting the cycle, connections with the moon, dealing with PMS, tips for nutritional and herbal healing, and celebrating menarche (a woman’s first bleed). She also introduces you to moon lodges and red tents. This would be a good selection for mothers.

This review is my way of thanking the author for this amazing book, it really helped me in so many ways. I started my menstrual cycles at the age of 11, and it was irregular and very painful, so without actually diagnosing me, they just assumed I had endometriosis and put me on Depo Provera. And like so many other women, I was taught that my period was shameful, embarrassing, gross and its only purpose was to burden me like it was some evil curse. Depo seemed to work well for me; it got rid of my menstrual cycles, I had a high sex drive and enjoyed not having to deal with a period. My hatred for being a woman and my sexuality became very problematic areas in my life. For so long I just wasn't ready to deal with this deep seeded resentment I had towards being a woman, and what it means to be a woman. But recently I had the desire to become more connected and in tune with that part of myself. I grew emotionally, spiritually and mentally and was now ready to embrace what it means to be a woman, but I had no idea what that even meant, hence why I started searching for answers and found this book. I was raised in Native Culture. I know a lot of people romanticise it, and surely I had heard stories about women's sacred Moon Times from a few elders, but from a young age I had turned against being female, and in fact I resonated more with being a Tom Boy, so I was taken under the wing of a male Medicine Man who taught me men's traditions, which I've heard is typically not the norm. Apparently women aren't supposed to learn Men's Traditions, and women have their own traditions. Unfortunately my experience with native culture wasn't as pleasant as most people make it out to be, as men would often make jokes like, "we probably just sent the women off to the Moon Lodge to keep the bears away from the village, because the bears would be attracted to the blood" and then every time I would go to a ceremony, men would say "you can't participate if you're on your Moon Time" or "you can't step over these sacred objects if you're on your Moon Time" and they would act afraid and disgusted by it, and this just made me hate being a woman even more, not to mention most of those "Medicine Men" I once respected, turned out to be rapists and abusers, who harmed and took advantage of girls and women. So, I always imagined there was some truth to the old stories about how menstrual cycles make women more powerful, but women are definitely not treated well in modern times in native culture, at least not where I live. So anyway, I had this really strong desire lately to reunite with my female spirit and really learn to love myself. I went off the Depo because I was worried about health concerns, but mostly because I really want my menstrual cycles back, I truly have the sense and feeling now that menstrual cycles are important, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually, and I feel for so long I wasn't truly myself. I think the Depo really stole a HUGE part of me away. I was hoping that this book would explain how menstrual cycles are important on a deep, profound spiritual level, and it really does. It explains all sorts of things I never knew, like how tuning into our natural cycles we can access a deeper spirituality, creativity and really get to know ourselves better, and how even our dreams change based on our cycles. I am fascinated at just how amazing our cycles truly are, and very disappointed that I wasn't taught this at a younger age. If I had been taught this at a young age, I wouldn't have grown to hate my body so much. It covers herbs and many other natural remedies and things I'd never heard of. It explained natural alternatives for birth control that I also had no idea about (I just wasn't taught these things). It explained the connection between the Moon and menstrual cycles, how you can learn to control your cycles by connection to the Moon, plus many ideas for ceremonies, creative projects, self awareness, self growth/transformation and just some really phenomenal ideas that I really resonated with. Menstrual cycles aren't a curse, they are definitely a blessing. And although this book does not give any advice on how to deal with painful endometriosis, it does explain the correlation between lifestyle choices, diet and a lot of other things that can cause irregularities. I am very excited to be just beginning my new journey into Womanhood and learning to balance my menstrual cycles, become all natural and get to know myself and my body on a more spiritual, intimate level.

This book is so loving and nurturing for the woman who didn't get the nurturing from her family of origin. It's perfect for me. I was not taught the Truth about my Moon Time, and I only now have taken action to learn about this super important part of being a woman! What prompted my action was that last month, I decided to stop taking birth control after about 20 years of taking it regularly!!! I have been chemically altering my body with The Pill and I feel remorse. This sweet book has awakened my curiosity and natural sweetness that is my birthright. One thing I learned from this book is the importance of being celebrated by her mother and family when a young lady gets her first period! I never had that-- and I was able to ask my mother for that life-affirming celebration NOW. When I called her on the phone and asked her to celebrate my "first" period, my mom had tears and he said she had never thought of that and she said of course she would. My package is in the mail and on it's way. I don't know what it's going to be, but I asked for a card and something cute with red and pink colors. I feel a healing and an awakening has already taken place. I look forward to my natural Moon Time from now on and learning the insightful gifts that it brings because Life is just that--- a gift!
