On Goodreads, I rated this 4 stars, which means "I really like it." But on Amazon, it just means "I like it," which for me does not do justice to the effect it had on me. The story didn't make me feel things to the depths of my soul, nor did it present any particularly new viewpoints to me, but it was fascinating: fast-paced, full of twists, an interesting social critique. Light is a great main character/antagonist, as we get to delve into his twisted psyche and see how he goes from being a bright, idealistic teen to a power-tripping, out-of-control murderer. But my favourite character is definitely L, the detective trying to prove Light's guilt. He's a brilliant, adorable cinnamon roll, and he alone makes the series worth reading. (Can anyone tell I have a crush?) There are some things I take issue with (plot conveniences, the portrayal of women, occasional confusing parts, and one thing that I can't mention because it is a major spoiler), but for the most part, it's pretty solid. Also, a lot of people say that the anime is identical to the manga. This isn't true. The anime both adds and cuts things. Read the manga first, then watch the anime.

Bought this for 150 euros and I still think it's worth the price since we can't find every book separately nowadays. Comes in perfect condition and with the "L card" which I couldn't get elsewhere eitherir. So I'm glad I snagged this set before it sold out :)
