Excellent trimmer
I have owned one of these trimmers, the Dahle 507 for nearly 20 years. It is an excellent tool, easy to use and very accurate. Also, I think, very safe to use. Mine has been well used over the last 20 years and continues to give good service. My wife was always borrowing mine - so this Amazon purchase was a second one just for her. The design has not changed noticeably in 20 years and it still cuts consistently and accurately. The blade on mine was getting a bit blunt after 20 years of use so I recently bought a replacement blade - which can be done on-line - though not from Amazon.

Nice quality cutter
I would have to largely re-iterate the sentiments of the reviewers before me when describing this Dahle A3 personal trimmer. The base is metal and the sliding rail also. There is a transparent clamp that you slide your paper under, line it up and simply swipe to achieve a nice clean cut. This is great if you are trimming home printed photographs or cards etc and could be used for a certain amount of volume work. That said you can only cut a few sheets of 80gsm paper at a time and if you load it up then holding it steady and making a nice cut gets a little more difficult. This is not meant for cutting those 500 leaflets you are thinking of knocking up at home.Good quality feel to it though and I am sure it will last for a long time. You can make slim cuts easily and they are nice and smooth edged. The hardest part is keeping your paper or card steady and lined up correctly. You should really use this machine with the length of it facing away from you so you push and pull the cutter away and towards, rather than side on.Recommended and worth paying the little extra cash for over some of the cheaper models, which all seem to fall apart quickly.

Great trimmer - here's a working tip to double its life.....
Bought to replace the same model that lasted over 15 years. I'm hoping this gives as long a life as my first one. It seems exactly the same in build quality. I don't have any trouble doing fine trims from A4 or trimming down small photos. Other reviewers have noted it's not quite square at the top edge. This was unfortunately true of my first one but it's not a big issue and very easy to adjust your cut. Never try to cut too many sheets or anything too thick This is the easiest way to damage a trimmer. When the rotary blade gets blunt don't buy a new one straight away. You can double the life by taking it apart and simply reversing it!

Dahle 508 Personal A3 Rolling Trimmer
As the other reviewer says, this is a quality item. Solidly built with a steel base and alloy rail, you can cut up to 7 sheets of 80gsm paper at a time, safely and accurately. Cutting action is smooth and the cutting edge is exactly 460mm wide. This is perhaps a little unfortunate, as had it been one inch wider it would have allowed cutting of the A3+ paper size which is becoming increasingly popular for home photo printing.Although the blade in the cutter head is self-sharpening and will probably last for many years of light-medium use, it is possible to replace it if necessary. This could be done in seconds by releasing the red clip to the left of the rail, and sliding out the rail and cutter head. The replacement part is the 00975 cutter head. Removing the rail and cutter head in this way also allows you to replace the semi-transparent paper clamp if required. But beware that these replacement parts cost over ÂŁ20 and ÂŁ10 respectively.

Great A4 Trimmer, Worth the money.
I was looking for a trimmer to trim down some photos for an album. I decided to purchase this trimmer based on great reviews it already had, it is a little expensive for what it is, although it is sturdy, well-built, and cuts neatly and easily with useful measurement guides. I doubt you can buy a better A4 trimmer than this. The product is also light and not too heavy or bulky for the desk. Exactly what I needed and will come in useful for years to come. I would recommend this if you do the occasional craft work, mounting, flyers, newsletters etc.

Despite a normal first usage, the blade cut into and broke the hand guard. Subsequent cuts were smooth, but at a clear angle
From what I had gathered from the product description and other reviews, I expected a lot more from this trimmer. I first used it to cut through four regular pieces of A4 simultaneously (a quantity that could supposedly be handled by the trimmer), but the device was quick to jam. Upon inspection, I found that it had actually sliced into the hard plastic hand guard, which then proceeded to snap in two when trying to remove the blade. This isn't a huge problem on its own - a couple of warning stickers, and a bit of added care, and suddenly the hand guard isn't missed - but the next problem arose from the straightness of the cut it provided on subsequent papers; it was certainly clear-cut, but also unmistakably at an angle (and I'm not the kind of eagle-eyed person who needed to inspect the cut with a protractor; anybody could identify the clear slant). I don't know if this is due to the blade potentially being warped by the first accident, but I don't think I can be blamed for a poorly-implemented hand guard or for trying to use the product with a number of pages that was below the recommended maximum. At the very least, this product creates a cut far neater than what I can regularly produce with scissors, so it works decently as a substitute for those who can't otherwise cut a piece of paper straightly. For ÂŁ30, you're probably not going to get a trimmer with a great cut, and/or one made of decent materials, so maybe I had expectations that were too high.EDIT: 06/04/14I've reduced my rating from two stars down to one star. Upon returning to use it again (for the first time since I submitted my review), subsequent cuts weren't even straight any more - in fact, the paper was shredded and torn, and the blade jammed frequently again. Maybe others have had decent experiences with it, but I certainly haven't. The only thing this trimmer is good for now is encouraging me to actually get better with using scissors. Fancy that; a product that's sole purpose is to find ways around needing to use it again!

Great cutter / trimmer, Perfect for the job.
This is the second one I have bought and I am really pleased with it.(The last one lasted about 20 years. - The blade went blunt and the plastic ruler snapped, but it had had lots of use, so served a long time really)Aligns and cuts really well.I put about 4 sheets in at a time and it will cut both ways with ease.

Good in Parts
I am scoring three stars on this trimmer but have not used it very much at all yet so I reserve the right come back and either up or down grade it at a later date. The trimmer is not quite as I imagined. I was interested in it as I have been looking for a device that will cut deckle edges and as this Dahle has the option of changing blades to produce either wavy line or deckle edge cuts I decided to go for it.Sure the blades do interchange but you don't actually take the straight blade out, instead you retract it by taking off the cutter cover and pulling the blade holder up out of the way. At the same time you insert your chosen blade into an empty slot ahead of the position of the straight blade and consequently the cutting line is moved forward about 25mm. I find it somewhat awkward to hold the paper or light card in this position and at the same time apply the correct pressure to achieve a neat cut. This may change with use but I shall continue to search for a guillotine which will cut a deckle edge - a much more practical solution.
