Is it a real Casio watch?

Yes. Its cheaper durable and lasts about 5 years.

What is the width of the strap?

At its widest next to clock face I would say 2cm and narrows to the buckle. Lightweight and comfortable and suitable for children or adults in my experience. I have been wearing this type of watch for many many years and the watch and battery usually outlive the strap and I just get another watch as so reasonably priced. Everyday use you should get at least 2-3 years out of it.

When I use this as a stopwatch, I need to see the time at a glance, to the nearest second, up to an hour. Would this be suitable?

You can just press the lower button on the left and it brings up the stopwatch. The right button controls the stopwatch.

Is the back light any good visually?

I don't find it easy to see what's on the screen using the back-light.
