Product Description Epic romantic drama based on Margaret Mitchell's Pulitzer-winning novel set during the American Civil War. Southern belle Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) often uses men to get what she wants, but is unable to get the one man she truly desires, Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard). She soon meets her match in the roguish Captain Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) and in the war itself which destroys the genteel way of life she has always known. With determination she rebuilds her life from the shattered remains the Union Army leaves behind. Despite its sometimes troubled production (director George Cukor was replaced by Victor Fleming, with Sam Wood brought in when Fleming's health failed), the film won ten Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress. desertcart.co.uk Review Gone with the Wind is a sprawling mosaic of a picture, one of the best-loved and most successful in movie history, but also one of the most frustrating. Wonderfully epic in scope, the decline and fall of the antebellum South as seen through the eyes of feisty, independent and wilful heroine Scarlett O'Hara makes the first half of the picture an absolutely riveting spectacle. From the aristocratic old world of Tara to the horrors of Atlanta under siege, Gone with the Wind features any number of indelible scenes and images: the genteel girls taking an enforced siesta during the Twelve Oaks barbecue, a horrified Scarlett walking through the wounded, the flight from burning Atlanta, and Scarlett's moving pledge against a burnished sunset set to Max Steiner's glorious music score. But the second half shifts gear, the melodramatic quotient is upped yet further as tragedy piles upon tragedy, and despite its unwieldy length everything feels rushed. Add to that the central problem that the audience never really understands, why Scarlett could ever fall for weak-chinned Ashley in the first place, and the picture begins to unravel unsatisfactorily. Behind the scenes problems doubtless contributed, with directors coming and going, Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable apparently barely able to stand the sight of each other, and producer David O Selznick's endless rewrites and interference. Nonetheless, this 1939 box-office smash remains one of Hollywood's finest achievements, an irresistible spectacle chock-full of the finest stars in the filmic firmament striking sparks off one another. They really don't make 'em like this anymore. On the DVD: No extra features on this DVD, which is a pity given the amount of material that must be available, but it has to be admitted this disc is worth the asking price simply to drink in the astonishing quality of the picture, sumptuously presented in its original 1.33:1 "Academy" ratio. The mono sound is vivid, too, showcasing Max Steiner's headily romantic score. --Mark Walker Review: When films were at their best ever. - Excellent dvd really lovely film,l am 82yrs old and adore this film, saw it yrs ago,and still love it Review: Good old film ( watchable ) - Mom love it

A Period Of American History Captured
A film well worth watching, setting a period of history, and attitudes of the time, into a well produced visual depiction of the novel.

The original version from 1939 Gone with the Wind
An excellent package with quite a lot of info, and a great love story. I 1st. saw the film in the 1940's, and then had the privilege of showing it in the1950's.

Great Film & Perfect Bluray
I have tried so many times to watch this film until the very end! I’ve lost interest, fallen asleep, or just plain given up! Anyway, this time I finally managed it, I bought the Bluray version to help me concentrate for the journey! Firstly, the Bluray is just fantastic quality and crystal clear – 10/10. It’s a bit of a waste of time going over the plot isn’t it - after all these years! Just to say that Clark and Vivian were fantastic as the leads, and who couldn’t help but love that maid! Old Rhett, all tan, teeth & tash – but what a good looking guy – and rich as well girls! Well, Scarlett, you got what you deserved didn’t you! No sympathy from this end I’m afraid. What a memorable scene that was when Rhett was leading the buggy through the fire and munitions, and that huge torched warehouse collapsed around them -utterly amazing cinematography for its day. That will always stay with me. Can you believe that Gable did not win an AA for his performance, but Leigh did – even the maid did! So, he lost the war, his wife and his trophy. No wonder he turned a drink? The only other thing I can say is just how much I enjoyed this film having finally stayed the course. Perhaps I found it easier now that I’m older – I think that helps? The film has now grossed some 3.5 billion, making it he most successful film ever.

A Hollywood classic from it's golden years, "Gone with the Wind" is essential viewing. The small, blathering crowd that would tell you that the depiction of the antebellum south is "offensive" are simply bleating a politically skewed victimhood that has no place in enjoying this marvelous film. In fact, proving this is easy: My 11-year old son, as we watched, asked questions about the period of time shown in the film- questions THAT WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ASKED HAD THIS FILM NOT BEEN AVAILABLE! I already had an old copy of this movie, but I admit I bought THIS one because I was afraid that it might "go away". I have a great copy of "Song of the South", as well, and enjoy it immensely- without a single negative thought. Please, get "GWTW" (and "SOTS", for that matter), and simply enjoy. If you've got questions, ask them, and if you have answers, please give them honestly and teach, teach, teach!

It is my all time favourite movie. However I regret buying blu-ray disc as it does not allow me to continue watching from where I left off, so it is quite annoying to me.
