This works great!
I held off on buying this because it seemed expensive, but I finally broke down and got the Lomi and am so glad I did! It makes compost efficiently, and there's no smell at all. I've thrown kitchen scraps like fruit skins, lettuce scraps, egg shells, and some expired (and buggy) pasta, and it reduced it all down to lovely compost in a surprisingly short time. It does have a sound, but it's not obnoxious or loud. Being able to get these scraps broken down quickly helps keep the kitchen smelling clean, and I'm able to use the compost in my garden immediately. So great!

Works as advertised
I find I'm using this more and more. What I'm doing with my scraps might be the difference between my use and that of other users. I don't put them in the machine right away. I stick them in a plate by my window so that the morning sun will dry the food out before its placed in the lomi. I started doing that after I opened the lid and saw that not everything had turned to dirt. Now it does. If you don't have the lid completely closed, you might notice a smell when you're using it. Be sure that the lid is tightly closed on all sides. Not closed on one and lifted ever so slightly on the other side. The other day I was cleaning my lomi, and there's a part that's removable (the part that spits out the dirt) that you can take apart and the dishwasher really cleans it up nicely. So I'd taken it part and put the two pieces of that particular part in the dishwasher. Unfortunately, during that cycle, the sealing gasket (which I'd forgotten to remove) came off so when I opened the dishwasher there were three pieces instead of two. I tried unsuccessfully to try getting it back together, and then called amazon to see if I could get a replacement part for that little gasket. Lomi didn't give them an option to replace that part, so they initiated a return and were going to send me a new one. After we got off the phone, I tried again to replace it and this time it worked! I've used it successfully twice since then. I have some gaskets on order now to take care of the issue if it ever arises again. ($5.99 for 6 gasket seals). So I cancelled the return. Thanks Amazon, you've been great thruout. Didn't want to have to return it!!! Footnote: I initiated another return and thankfully I was able to cancel that one as well. The reason for the initiation? When plugged in, the Lomi wouldn't start after I pushed the button. The button wouldn't even turn it on. The customer service never made any suggestions other than to return it. When I started to take it apart to put it in a box, I found that the cord that plugs into the wall, also plugs into the lomi. I'd forgotten about that. It had worked itself out of the lomi when I turned the lomi a little bit. After I plugged it back into the lomi, it worked! Again, saving the hassle of the return. The reason for my posting that bit of information is so that if your lomi doesn't work, you check both ends of the cord to see they're both plugged in.

Revised to four stars
Two and a half years later, and I'm still using this composter. Over time, I've learned various means of reducing the baked-on-compost problem. Hence, I revise my ranking to four stars. ********** I’ve been shopping on Amazon since 1995 and have purchased thousands of products over that time. I believe this is only the second negative review that I’ve ever submitted After careful research, I purchased a Lomi composter on December 12, 2022. The return window closed on January 31, 2023 (50 days later). This composter is a good idea and seems to be sturdily constructed. However, I think the parent company (Pela) put this item on the market before working out all of the kinks. There are a variety of problems with this product, only one of which will I describe here. When we received our Lomi composter, we read the instruction manual carefully and followed all of the included instructions. Initially, the composter worked as advertised, and we were very pleased. However, a few months after we began using our Lomi, we found that composted kitchen waste was baked onto the bottom of the bucket (see attached picture). This happens about once every three or four times we use the composter. Sometimes, this baked-on compost is thick enough that it jams the rotor. More often, the rotor will still turn. Sometimes, I can carefully remove the baked-on compost with a plastic tool (again, see the attached photo). Other times, I have to soak it out (thus, rehydrating what I’ve just paid to dehydrate); the consequent swelling can also jam the rotor. The only other person I know who has a Lomi composter has reported experiencing the same problem. I don’t know what causes this problem. However, I’ve noticed that after the light comes on to indicate that the Lomi is cooling, the light indicating that the Lomi is drying remains on. If the machine is supposed to be cooling but it’s still drying (hence, heating), maybe that could cause this problem. In any case, although I strongly support winter composting and, thus, conserving landfill space, I cannot in good conscience recommend this Lomi composter.

Lomi is good for composting but beware
I used the Lomi since March 2023. In October it quit working. It would no longer compost. I contacted Lomi telling them the bucket and grinder no longer functioned. I sent pictures and they refused to replace the bucket and grinder. However, after going back and forth with Lomi customer support three times, they FINALLY sent me a replacement bucket.

Why did I wait so long??
My why: I work 60-70 hrs a week, meal prep my weeks, and have very little time to manually compost. But it always felt awful to just throw veggie scraps in the garbage so I started freezing the scraps. Well that became a more a chore because of the space I needed in my freezer . Fast forward: I couldn’t be more happy with this purchase. It is easy to setup and use immediately. So far I’ve produced 10 cups of beautiful compotes soil in less than 24 hrs of using it. My garbage imprint has reduced considerably. I did a lot of homework to search for a kitchen composter that fit my needs- this one checked all the boxes! Yes it is on higher end of price but it is well made, has so many resources online and easy to use.

Did a lot of evaluation before we purchased the Lomi. The Lomi has not disappointed ! Hated the idea of a yard composter and all the work of tilling the soil, worrying about the bugs and the constant attention. The Lomi has been so easy to use . Saving all our vegetable/fruit scraps , coffee grounds, egg shells and a little cardboard and the result is wonderful. Using our Lomi every 2-3 days. We’ve put the compost in our yard and have seen the flowers and vegatable garden flourish. No mess, no smell , no problem.

Love it, compacts like 4 food bins worth in to less than mass of one. However it does take a long time. Also smells bad and can’t keep it in house. Ideal for garage. Avoid if indoors.

Does it’s job well, I sometimes forget the little tablet thing, sometimes it needs something to soak up the excess liquid. It makes a sound but it’s mostly a hum with the occasional time it gets something harder in the grinder, but it’s quieter than I expected after reading some reviews.

This kitchen composter is a great way to reduce waste and make composting cleaner. It is a slightly large countertop appliance, but it has a very sleek and clean appearance. I really appreciate that it is white, that is rounded in shape and that the bucket is dishwasher safe. It works great, is easy to set up and use, and the end product is what it should be. It does make some noise when running, but it’s not any louder than running a dishwasher, and it’s not disruptive. I highly recommend this product.

Love it, does a good job of composting. Easy to use. Does have a smell when it runs but nothing unbearable. Highly recommend if you’re tired of dealing with a stinky compost bin in your house.
