Davidson's Tea Bulk, South African Honeybush, 16-Ounce Bag

Good taste, very smooth

My favorite tea and this brand of Honeybush is always an excellent product at a great price. Buying a pound with Prime delivery is a huge cost saving over buying in a specialty store. It's even nicer when the product is better than local dealers usually sell. I like loose tea because it seems fresher, or I can vary the strength as I prefer. I use a simple acrylic mug tea inffuser, placed in the microwave. Heat to about 180 degrees in 75-90 seconds, then let it steep a couple minutes.This is a mellow to strong, sweet and fragrant tea. It is slightly red and similar to rooibos, but sweeter with a warmer fragrance. I like mine strong and a heaped teaspoon in 12oz is my preference. Try a little less to begin with. I find a thin slice of lemon is a nice variation, or just a hint of real vanilla works well with this tea. Serve it your friends and be surprised how much they enjoy it too.

I love this company,, teas are great and the prices are not too bad. I ordered Honeybush and got the wrong tea,, which was Irish Breakfast,, so I let them know and reordered,, and they sent me Irish Breakfast, so I reordered and finally got the Honeybush.. This tea is delicious.. I will ordering more.. Thank you Davidson's.

I specifically chose this tea due to the fact that the price per ounce beat any tea blend or otherwise in my area. Ounce per ounce of loose tea you simply couldn't beat the price... plus free shipping? I blend my herbals in my own concoctions and brew them in my infuser. This is a finer grind than I am accustomed, but I solved that problem by shoving a coffee filter into my infuser before adding the tea. It is not heavy, dark or woody at all. It is light, fresh and almost sweet. I love it with my chai blends as well as with the greys. As another reviewer stated, it is superb as an iced tea and I've begun blending for the purpose of brewing to ice. I highly recommend not only this particular tea... but also the company. Well packaged, though I do suggest repackaging for long term. I would and will buy again! Cheers! PS - It's decaffienated!

Upon opening the bag I was struck by the fresh, earthy sweet aroma of the tea. Very pleasant. I brewed a teaspoonful in a mesh tea ball in a pint of water and let it cool. The resulting color of the liquor was a deep golden red. The tea has a grassy, sweetish scent, not very strong. The tea itself is full-bodied, grassy-leafy flavored, some tannins, with little hint of minty sweetness in the finish. Overall the flavors are very subtle. A rounded, pleasant glass of tea, perfect for relaxing. Another honey bush I’ve tried is more flavor forward, with twiggy, piney notes and bright honey sweetness. Like fine single malts, each expression of honey bush tea has its merits.

Also the taste is super tasty. Super fun aroma that fills your nose pulling your entire being towards honeybush brewed cup of tea!

I wish they would tell us why they stopped selling the unfermented honeybush tea at a reasonable price. At one time, both the fermented and unfermented honeybush teas were the same price and both were priced cheaper than the green (unfermented) rooibos tea and the red (fermented) rooibos tea from South Africa. In recent years, the price of the fermented honeybush tea has been slightly increased to equal the price of the green and red rooibos teas. The unfermented honeybush tea is still available but is very difficult to buy and the price has been dramatically increased (tripled)! My best guess is that there is a fungus or mold that likes to grow on the unfermented honeybush tea but not the fermented honeybush tea. Scientific studies say that both the fermented and unfermented honeybush teas and both the green and red rooibos teas are about 90% as healthy for us to drink as green tea. Oolong tea is only about 50% as healthy for us to drink as green tea. Black tea is only about 10% as healthy for us to drink as green tea. White tea is about 10% healthier for us to drink than green tea.

I took a leap of faith with this tea leaf after years of disappointment concerning rooibos. I just never could get behind that particular flavor. This is JUST right flavor wise, and Caffeine free. So I can make my own herbal chai and health drinks without sacrificing taste. I’ll be back for more.
