These talk about being pouches but I can only find two pieces of plastic which do not work when I put them through the laminator? Any ideas?

In fact "Pouches" is not a good description. Take out ONE (1) sheet and gently tease the two (2) membranes apart. You will find it is welded together at one short side and the other 3 sides lift off. Put in the item you want to laminate pushing it up as tightly as you can to the welded end. Make sure that there is clear plastic sheeting on all three sides (a few mm will do). When machine shows ready - Green light? feed in the welded end. The machine will grip onto it and run it through the heated rollers. The heat will weld the two membranes together where only clear plastic shows (hence the need to have your insert at least a few mm smaller than the plastic membranes. It works perfectly for A4 paper. I hope this works for you - it does for me. John.

Do they come with a card carrier so the glue doesn't leach onto the rollers?

The pouches do not come with a carrier.

If you have just the pouches but no laminator machine could you heat them with an iron and achieve a decent result?

I think you would find the laminator sheet would crinkle and bend and you would need to ensure that you have a paper/ cloth covering over the laminator pouches - never tried it but laminators are some cheap perhaps purchase from amazon

The corners are very slightly rounded
