a fun and satirical look at the role of being 'the dad'
Written and illustrated in the style of the original Ladybird's "How it works" series (from yesteryear), this is a fun and satirical look at the role of being 'the dad'. If you're after a smile and a laugh, I recommend this little book. It's reasonably priced - and makes for a great gift. It can be complemented with the 'mum' book (see How It Works: The Mum (Ladybirds for Grown-Ups) ).

It must be a Dad thing
I really like these books and was chomping at the bit for this one to arrive. It is a good fast read and when I laughed it was the snorty belly laugh type especially the invisibility page. That was typical and made me roar and shudder all rolled into one. A few of the pages went over my head to be honest but perhaps thats the point? Is it a Dad thing that us Mum's don't get or am I being thick. I don't know the answer to that but I am sure someone will tell me. It is a really good book and I love the way they are written in the Ladybird style. So many memories resurface for that alone. I wish my Dad was still around to share it with and explain the bits of Dad humour to me that went over my head. I can just see him rolling his eyes at me with a grin on his face. I will still be first in the queue for coming books in this series.

Ideal as a funny gift, bit pricey though.
A quick 5 minute book with some very funny lines. Ideal as a little gift, quite pricey for an ebook, better value as a hardback from the shops.

Funny
Very funny book. Not sure about some of the other reviews on here, perhaps edgy comedy is not for them. Likely a case of the professionally offended breed which seem to be popping up everywhere. The book is not meant to be a guide to fatherhood, but a comical poke at some of the situations that Dads find themselves in, and the coping mechanisms they use to get through everyday fatherhood. Very funny, and in keeping with the other books in the range from Wives, Sheds and others. Would purchase as a gift for any father (who has not had their sense of humour surgically removed).

Really funny, nostalgic reading.
Really funny boom, I love the old 50s pictures and the wording is brilliant! We have a few of these now, the husband, the wife, the mum and the dad and they're all really funny and quick reads. Only takes about 15-20 minutes start to finish but they make a lovely gift, especially for those of us who remember reading the original ladybird books. I actually remembered some of the photos from books I'd read in my childhood!

Didnโt quite do it for me
Less amusing than a sub-par Viz letters page. Could do better. Iโm a little disappointed in you if Iโm being completely honest. Youโve let me down and youโve let yourself down. Why donโt you look to your brotherโs example? Three A levels under his belt and off to De Montford University. Donโt give me that look. It might not be Oxford or Cambridge, but itโs a bit more aspirational than working in the off-license isnโt it? No, please donโt mention your YouTube channel again. โDownloadsโ and โviewsโ donโt pay the bills do they? Really? Oh you got your first payout did you? How much? HOW much? Thatโs for the year? For the MONTH?! Thatโs ridiculous. I donโt understand anything anymore. Iโm going to the shed.

Great gift for the dad with a sense of humour
Was delivered quickly and sealed nice and tight in the rip pull style amazon mailing slips. The book itself was a great gift for my father this past fathers day and has enough content to keep you giggling for a good while. The book is sturdy and well made and the artwork is fantastically done and captures the vintage satire theme!
