60cm Acrylic Rule/Ruler with Steel Cutting Edge - Jakar

I needed a long ruler for marking out photo mounts etc, so needed a thick, straight, sturdy 600mm ruler with clear markings. This is excellent, one edge with thin metal for cutting and the other bevelled for marking out. Highly recommended. Previously ordered a cheaper thinner 600mm ruler, but it arrived bent and warped with poor packing, and also too floppy for intended use. This one was dispatched with thick packaging, and perfect for my use. Great!

It solves three big needs for me personally, it’s longer than most rulers so allows work on larger pieces of paper, it has that excellent parallel grid in the middle which for certain types of drawing and marking up is really useful, and the metal strip is a fantastic element for straight edge cutting. I saw one questioner ask if the ruler was rigid, I’d say it was semi rigid, there’s some flex, but it’s not wobbly by any means.

Ok, so how can you review a ruler. Well, the writing is large and clear, it seems very well made (very straight and true), it comes in a protective sleeve (and came well packaged) and it does the job I need it to do! I used to have a ruler like this 20 years ago when I sued to work at an advertising agency and used this with a scalper to cut out typesetting, art boards and the like to help the artwork team. I now print my own photographs and thought back to this period and decided to go back in time rather than buy a rotary trimmer or guillotine to give more flexibility (and to take up less space) so have just bought a cutting mat and scalpel and this ruler is perfect with its steel cutting edge. The blade runs along it, and not up the ruler into my fingers (seen that sooo many times those twenty odd years ago!)

This has transformed my ability to cut accurately. Great for spacing because of the marks on the length of the ruler. I use thin knives and scalpels and it works great with them.

It might seem hard to be enthusiastic about a ruler, but this is a great ruler! Well made and packaged, it's plus points are: - Parallel lines / grid to help get the ruler parallel / perpendicular. - Steel cutting surface for guiding the craft knife. No more cutting into the ruler. /forgot to mention: The measurements start at the very edge of the ruler so it's easy to measure distances between objects. Sometimes rulers has a gap before the scale starts. Not this one.

Purchased as a stocking filler for my daughter’s boyfriend for use for Uni projects so not given to him as yet but must say it’s quite impressive, sturdy and worth the money. Delivery quick and packed well.

The Jakar 60cm rule with its steel cutting edge is ideal for all who have to cut paper or card, particularly large sheets. Although the numbering is clear it would be helpful to have the numbers running in reverse order on the lower portion of the rule.
