Winsor & Newton, Art Masking Fluid, 75ml

I brought this Winsor & Newton masking fluid on offer for £5.59 - it arrived quickly and in good condition. This was my first time using masking fluid but it’s a great idea to be able to blank out sections of the art to keep it clear from paint or ink, so I have been wanting to try this for a while. I used it on a quick test scribble with some Winsor and Newton drawing inks and they all worked well. There is a bit of a learning curve to peeling up the fluid at the end, you have to be gentle and roll your fingertips or the paper can rip, but once I got the technique it was all good. Also it doesn’t take much fluid to provide a good cover so this small bottle should last a while. Though one thing to note is that it can shorten the life of your brushes so should only be used with old brushes or washed off them quickly after. I really enjoyed using this and I’ll look forward to experimenting more with it. A great addition to an art kit.

Great product. It flows well, and does exactly what it says it will do. I've never used masking fluid before and I was very pleased as the little bunting flags on the painting I've attached, needed to be masked, while I did the sky and the buildings. I barely used any of the 75ml, so I'm sure it'll last me the year. It does ruin the paintbrush though. It won't come out once it's in the bristles. So be prepared to keep one or two brushes just for this use. I was also pleased that the latex came off really easily days after it was applied - I'm a slow painter.

Pleasantly surprised, went on easily and came off ok. Probably could have used thicker and stronger paper but this was ok. Much better than the masking pen I used. Also hasn’t got much odour which is great.

I bought this for watercolour painting to keep the paper white in places. Good for fine details such as the seeds on strawberries, water droplets and sparkles on water. Once your painting is dry you just rub it off and the spaces are perfectly preserved. Excellent product. I will definitely be using it regularly and repurchasing when needed.

Works well and has not damaged the paper.

Very good product

My first time using masking fluid, I may need to come back and rewrite this. Used for a watercolour portrait, I found that small areas were extremely difficult to lift without tearing the paper (190gsm). I will reattempt with higher gsm and thicker sections of masking fluid and review what I have written following. As it stands, I still prefer to just using gouache or a white gel pen to add highlights if needed. Much less faff.

Liquide de masquage légèrement coloré qui permet de mieux repérer où on en a mis. Le produit sent fort, a une viscosité parfaitement adapté à son usage. La seule difficulté : il faut lui sacrifier un pinceau car le produit colle terriblement aux poils.

Il prodotto è arrivato nei tempi stabili, in perfette condizioni. L'ho subito provato e sono stata felice di constatare che effettivamente fa quello che promette. Il liquido va applicato sul foglio asciutto, e va lasciato asciugare prima di passarci sopra il colore, insomma basta leggere le poche indicazioni riportate sulla boccetta per avere un giusto risultato. Avevo letto che a molti la carta si era addirittura strappata! Io, invece, non ho trovato assolutamente difficile rimuovere il prodotto una volta asciutto, anzi è venuto via molto facilmente. L'unica pecca è il dover stare attenti al pennello che si utilizza, perché la maschera si asciuga rapidamente e altrettanto rapidi dovrete essere voi a lavare il pennello, altrimenti vi toccherà buttarlo. Alla fine basta prestare attenzione a tali accorgimenti e magari utilizzare un pennello "basta sia". L'odore è un po' forte, è vero, ma se consideriamo il tempo effettivo di utilizzo della maschera è totalmente sopportabile. Male che vada utilizzatelo in un luogo ventilato se proprio non lo sopportate. Ad ogni modo lo consiglio vivamente, è un prodotto ottimo e davvero utile.

Eu já testei várias máscaras em vários papéis de aquarela, essa é até agora a melhor que encontrei! Seca numa cor amarela brilhante, que facilita visualizar bem, e importante, não mancha o papel! De todas as máscaras que já testei esta é a que menos danifica o papel quando removida, pois toda máscara por melhor que seja sempre levanta um pouco as fibras do papel, porém essa praticamente não altera em nada a estrutura das fibras, o que para mim é essencial na aquarela, você não consegue perceber visivelmente nenhuma reação estranha quando pinta e isso é incrível! Amei muito!

El que a mí me funciona mejor sin complicarme la vida. Aguanta el paso del tiempo y no se seca como los de boli o otras marcas.
