Great book for self-study.
Great book, so far mastered only Hiragana but the book itself is easy to use, has a lot of space in the book itself for you to practise kana and has free audio lessons on the web page of tuttle. Good luck to all people learning out there :)

Love this!
I’ve been studying with this book for a short while now and I would really recommend it! The format and structure is ideal as it makes learning really straight forward; it is easy to notice progress. The online resources provided are also a great addition.

The best book to learn hiragana and katakana if you are learning on your own. Very easy to understand and gives you motivation to finish it.

Easy way to learn and write

This book is very good for beginners who start to learn hiragana and katakana. There are ample spaces to practice writing within the book. There are additional exercises to help you remember hiragana and katakana letters.

I bought this book in preparations for my University course. This workbook is perfect for those who had no previous knowledge of the language and its syllables. You will start with copying the syllables in a similar fashion as in the elementary school when learning the alphabet. After learning some syllables the book quickly introduces a few pieces of vocabulary. I recommend this book for everyone who wants to start learning the Japanese syllables, but it is no substitute for a book that teaches you the grammar after you mastered the kanas.
