Komodo Aspen Bed Terrain, 12 Litre

I recently bought the Komodo Aspen Bed Terrain (12 Litre) for my reptile enclosure and I’m really impressed. The aspen shavings are clean and dust-free straight out of the bag, and they provide great coverage for burrowing and natural behavior. It’s absorbent without getting smelly, which makes spot-cleaning and full changes a lot easier. My reptile seems very comfortable on it, and it doesn’t hold too much moisture or clump like some other substrates I’ve tried. Packaging was good and the 12 L size is generous for the price. Overall — high quality, great value and definitely one I’ll keep buying. Highly recommended!

I read all the reviews before buying but ultimately i hadn't much choice as my local pet shop being pets at home only sells small bags for around the same price i wanted to give this a bash! the bag arrived not full no way to tell exactly how much was in it other than the fact it states "12l" on the bag. I cleaned out two 4x1.5x1.5 enclosures and refilled with just enough for my desert king and tessera corn to make some tunnels! barely enough although if using for one vivarium that size it's more than plenty or with a smaller enclosure you could fill it twice over with plenty extra! It looks like less than it is once you get it out and break it up it goes a long way so i have no complaints there i've been using aspen for snakes for years without problem i don't recommend it for lizards though especially bearded dragons please if you have lizards look into alternative options loose substrate isn't suitable for some of them and this is very loose however for snakes it's great and fairly easy to clean out. Didn't find it overly dusty comparing to pets at homes brand and i will see how they get on with it over time but i am happy with the purchase and i would recommend. If you want a bag packed full don't buy it but if you want enough to fill vivs the size i stated earlier or smaller infact even bigger one bag will do the trick.

Superb value for money—I bought a few bags so I'd have loads, and each one is a decent size. I got this as a texture change for my hamster’s enclosure. While it won’t hold up burrows very well, it’s great for digging and can also be used for nesting. The texture is a bit strange—spiky yet soft at the same time, which my hamster seemed to enjoy. There’s minimal dust; a little bit, but not overwhelming. I’d recommend grabbing it out by hand rather than tipping the whole bag in to avoid the dust at the bottom. It has no weird smells, bugs, or unwanted pieces inside—just as advertised on the bag! Overall, a great product at an excellent price.

I use this for my hamster, it helps stop urine smells from him. It gives him a different texture to dig in. It has minimal dust. Easy to clean out of the cage.

This claims to be 12 litres but I think that's rather optimistic, even when fluffed up a lot. Still, it's enough for a single filling of a 4ft x 1ft (120x34cm) viv to a depth of about 2.5cm (so I make that about 10 litres), which is sufficient for my 2 year old corn snake to burrow to her heart's content. It's not as dusty as the aspen bedding I've tried previously, and it's just about the cheapest option out there. I've tried a couple of different types of substrate; aspen isn't the prettiest but I do think it's the best for corn snakes as it's gentle on their skin when burrowing, lets their burrows hold their shape, and makes it easy to see poo for spot cleaning. The main disadvantage to it really is that it can dry the air, so keep an eye on humidity levels and give it a misting if necessary. I have a large water dish underneath the heat lamp and the evaporation from that seems to be sufficient to maintain decent humidity.

3* because this definitely was not 12l and I brought 2bags - and was a little dusty as well - smelt fine- to me it wasn't as soft as I thought it would be about same as wood shavings. Gerbils liked it they chew on the bigger bits so at least they are happy- I have a detolf from IKEA and would need more than 2bagd of this to fill it... So not overly happy.
