Better than many others, and worth the slightly higher price.
I used ths product to capture analogue video from an old Sony Handycam. Compared to other similar products that come with very brief instructions in poor English, this is a breath of fresh air. The supplier has clearly gone to a great deal of trouble to prepare documentation, and he also includes an email address and phone number if any extra help is needed. Video capture is an unexpectedly complex art, and the supplied instructions make it a lot easier. The bundled ArcSoft ShowBiz software worked, albeit with some limitations. In my case there was no preview display, and the captured video was distorted to a 5:4 aspect ratio instead of the original 4:3, although this is easily fixed using other software. VirtualDub is also included, although a later version is now available from SourceForge - it's free. It's more of a challenge to set up, but it gives better results if you work carefully through the supplied instructions, but beware of using the uncompressed AVI format unless the video clips are very short, or you have huge amounts of free disk space. The x264vfw codec recommended in the documentation solves the problem, but you need to check the settings carefully to ensure audio and video synchronisation. Again the preview function didn't work for me, but the resulting video was OK. The adapter also works with other applications. I found that the best compromise between quality and ease of use was with Nero Video 2016 (and presumably the later versions) which gave a functioning preview and good quality capture with the correct display aspect ratio. I used VSO Software's ConvertXtoVideo app to do do the fine tuning and conversion to MP4 format. Overall, I recommend this product, but some patience and study is necessary if you are to get the best results from it. It also works with Skype, but not with the Windows 10 "Camera" app, which claims that no camera is attached.

excellent hardware - works perfectly
I would have given this 5 stars but I couldn't get the supplied software - ArcSoft Showbiz - to run on either of my two Windows 7 64 bit machines. That won't be a problem in most cases because ArcSoft and the vendor tell me it runs perfectly and maybe its just the set up on my pcs. You also get a copy of Videodub which is a much more powerful capture and edit program so that's okay. The hardware itself is excellent. You get a SCART output plug which has the yellow red and white sockets and a long lead that connects the usb grabber to the vhs. The grabber itself has a lead that terminates in a usb plug rather than plugging direct into the usb port. That is much better than a unit that plugs straight in as the weight of the lead on other units I've had puts a strain on the unit and the port and sometimes the units needed a wiggle to make proper contact. No problem at all with this piece of kit. I bought this to use with MoviePlus from serif and it runs perfectly. No reason to think it won't run with any other well known video editing package although the vendors won't promise that (which is fair enough as they have no idea what ytou are running and how well its installed). So I didn't need ArcSoft or videodub anyway. Instructions you get are clear and well written and backed up by video tutorials on the supplied cd. When I couldn't get Showbiz to run, an email to the vendor was answered promptly although we still couldn't get it to run. Tim - the vendor - didn't hesitate to offer me the cash back but as the unit is working perfectly with MoviePlus - and other units I had didn't - I think you can buy with confidence that any problems you have will be swiftly resolved. It will probably run perfectly for you straight out of the box. The quality of the vhs to dvd transfer I've just done is amazing for an old vhs tape. If you're looking for a way of transferring old vhs tapes to dvd I think this would be a sound investment. I've had two other units. The first was only compatible with Windows XP and was retired gracefully. The second worked - just - with Windows 7 and then died. This unit is by far and away much better made and far higher in quality. I'm now feeling a bit mean that I didn't give it five stars but it did take a bit of playing around before I ditched the ArcSoft showbiz and tried the main editing program I have - MoviePlus. If you have a program for video editing already, suggest you just install the drivers and try your main program immediately although if you do need support with the supplied programs there is a lot of it i the documentation, in the video tutorials and icredibly quickly by email. Thoroughly recommended.

A superb solution for digitizing analog video tapes
This review was edited from my first 2019 one on Jan 24 2021. This version reflects close to 2 years of good use I recently purchased this kit on Amazon and can give it my very best recommendation. I chose it due to reviews on Amazon and was duely rewarded! Once installed and when a few little irritating problems are solved (see below) it works like a breeze. Note already here! If you run into problems, both the installation guide and the Email Help System will assist you! I know because I tried it out! I have 200+ VHS video tapes in my library, many of which I would like to save to digital format, so my interest in owning a kit was very high. Quality VCR recorders are becoming increasingly rare to get and I wanted to use my superb deck to safegurd my valuable tapes. For those that have many videos and want them digitized, I emphatically recommend this VIDEO 2 PC solution over a commercial service. It would be both costly and in many ways more inconvenient. I tried this for a few tapes, and it works fine in a way. But with a full length VHS tape they normally have to "divide" the contents into two separate DVDs and they often cut in the middle of something. If instead you ask them to convert all to a single PC file, it can become so large that some Windows applications refuse to handle them. I also found that in some cases, there was "noise" in the resulting file which probably could have been avoided had you done the job yourself. The installation of the hardware and software proceeded without a hitch on a Win10 laptop. The first little problem arose when I wanted to capture a video. The capture driver did appear briefly in the Showbiz video program menu (and when looking in WIN Control Panel), but it could not be selected. I looked at the "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ) sheet that comes with the package and thought the problem might be Windows needing permission to use cameras and microphones. Not so, this was already enabled. I battled on for some time and finally tried to disable my AVAST virus software temporarily. The FAQ says this normally is not needed. For me it was. Somewhere in the process AVAST came up asking me if I wished to allow Video 2-PC and Showbiz to do their jobs. I said "Yes to all", and then all worked! This means I can use the package with the Virus software engaged. Another irritating problem was that sometimes during capture the process stopped with a "Copy Protected video" message. Haha Also this the company have foreseen. You need to edit the "Capture.ini" file and insert an extra command line. This was clearly explained in the FAQ sheet and it took my only 5-10 min to do this. Just follow the procedure in every detail, and Bob's your Uncle! You do not even need a Win restart. Following that, all worked without problems. The software is easy to use and produces videos that are as good as when the VHS tape is played on a good recorder. I am confident no commercial service can do better and I have worked professionally as a biologists with editing videos both on VCR systems and computers for many years. I NEED TO ADD that early in the installation process, when meeting the first problem, I e-mailed the producers using their Help Email System (this was few minutes was before I solved the "virus protection problem" on my own). I received a kind and helpful reply already the next morning although this was during a week-end! So, should you encounter problems, rest assured that this company will indeed provide quick and useful assistance. Do not be scared away by the little problems I list above. Capturing analogue videos to PC is never a very simple task as you are trying to connect two very different worlds! It was a lither bothersome, but it all worked out nicely and the result is a marvellous solution. Had I waited until the Help Email arrived, I might even have saved myself some trouble. The SHOWBIZ capture and editing software is not the most advanced you can find, but it suffices. If you want more powerful software, just capture your videos to file. Load them into another software and play around with that. Let me add here (in this edited version of my first review) that I have now usde the equipment for close to two years with success. I can RECOMMEND that you use a nother Video capture and Editing Software than than what comes with the package. There are many very good ones on the market and in fact some good ones for free. I use POWERDIRECTOR which is very powerful and the software will recognize the grabber hardware as it should. So no problems there. But for those that want an "easy go", just use the included SHOWBIZ. One final note: Here in denmark many people subscribe to a TV supply over the net or the telephone system. You get a BOX that includes a hatrddisk and thus you are free to "record and save" the programs you have available. But, Alas, due to copyright those files are "locked" in the box and cannot be copied. Only output to the TV. But then! The Box has both HDMI and SCART output. Hahaha! So I am sometimes for serials etc that cannot easily be purchased commercially just output them over SCART form the BOX and into the Video-2-PC grabber and hence to the pC. It works like a breeze and by at the same time inputting the signal from the "box" to the TV I can on the TV screen monitor what is also shown on the little grabber window on the PC. Sure! I do this round a bout, because by this I first make something digital into analog and then balc again. So I use it only when absolutely needed, but it is a nice feature to have for me. I emphatically recommend this cheap but Powerful system to anybody with a real need to digitize VHS videos into high quality files or DVDs. Be prepared to use a little time with installation, that is all. Jens Hoeg, Denmark

Excellent Solution For Webcam Transfer To PC
I am not connected in any way to the developer of this Video-2-PC Transfer Kit. This is the first time I have ever tried using one of these video transfer kits. Prior to purchasing this kit, I had spent over a week of trying to transfer mini DV tapes from my Sony TRV33E to my Windows 11 PC using Sony's original firewire, USB streaming and just about everything else I could try without success, I found this 'Video-2-PC Transfer Kit. It did the job first time with perfect high quality results. Very impressive. This kit is more expensive than several other kits on amazon but this kit is of high quality and produces perfect results with clear, rock solid captures. It really is worth paying for this kind of quality and not the less expensive kits out there. The kit included cables to use with this device, necessary USB drivers, clear instructions and a support email address to contact the developer should any further issues arise and VHS video capture software. I used OBS studio on my Windows PC and the clear instructions supplied were needed for this. Very important is that anyone using this kit must have the original camcorder output cable supplied by the manufacturer, (in my case Sony), or, if this is lost, be able to acquire one matching it before using this kit. I'm sure this is the same for all video capture devices and not just this 'Video-2-PC' kit. From my experience, I would advice taking 10 to 15 minutes or so to read carefully the excellent instructions given and to follow these to the letter. This really is time worth spent and will result in perfect results first time. I highly recommend this video transfer kit and it came as a relief that it enabled me to download all my mini DV tapes to my Windows computer for both safe-keeping and editing.

Given up on this
Installation was easy and instructions were very helpful and clear, with answers to many troubleshooting issues. After trying out a cheaper device (also from Amazon) that produced videos with the sound out of sync, I was so glad that the videos using this device had perfect sound. Unfortunately, I’ve had to give up on it after spending many hours, over the course of several months, trying to get acceptable picture quality (video lag and interlacing). As video lag wasn’t mentioned in the troubleshooting, I contacted the email address for support and got a very quick reply, but they couldn’t see what I was seeing, and therefore couldn’t advise. The same lag occurred when I tried lots of different tapes (to rule out that it wasn’t just the one tape that I was using at the time), so I assumed my old laptop was to blame. I treated myself to a new, higher quality laptop over Christmas and gave it another go, but had the same issues with lag and interlacing. I’ve spent hours researching online and trying lots of different software in an attempt to rectify the lag and deinterlace the picture, but I just couldn’t. I’ve now bought a more expensive capture device on Amazon, and despite some initial teething issues, the results are much better with far less fuss. I don’t like to give low ratings, especially when support is so readily available and it being evident that so much effort has been made to create this item. It may be that my device was faulty. If not, those with more experience and knowledge of video editing may know how to rectify problems (if they experience any).

A great way to backup your old video collection
The Video-2-PC transfer kit is a comprehensive and easy to use solution for transferring older video formats onto the PC for either watching it on the PC or recording to DVD. The kit contains all of the cables required to link a video source using SCART, S-video, or composite out to a PC using a USB connection. In addition the kit contains a CD packed with all of the drivers, recording software (both an easy to use program, and a more advanced one for those who are more adventurous) and some comprehensive easy to follow instructional videos. Linking the cables is easy and installing the software relatively straight forward if you follow the instructions included. Although it is even easier if you simply follow the video tutorials. Note: the Arcsoft Showbiz key proved impossible to decipher in my case however a quick email to retailer provided me with a key I could cut and paste and make it work. Windows 7 and Vista 64 bit users will require an extra step that is a little fiddly but again the video explains what to do in a simple to understand manner. Once the software is installed and the cables connected copying a tape to your PC is a simple process. Again the video tutorial is a great help in tweaking the settings so I recommend a watch. Note: copyright material cannot be copied using the Arcsoft Showbiz software, occasionally it has been reported that the copyright message can be displayed in error there is a work around which can be found with a quick web search. Once you have copied your tape the software allows you to edit clips or trim the recordings. Then there is a full set of authoring tools which will allow you to make a copy of your recordings to hard disc or to DVD which can be watched on a normal DVD player. The results of the process are impressive, and the whole package is not to daunting to use. Which is made so much easier by the excellent instructional videos. The support I received when I hit a small snag was first rate and very fast (on a Sunday too!). Overall this is a highly recommend product.

Works well - Cheap way to convert old format videos to DVD / MP4
This product works well. I converted a raft of old family videos to digital formats using it. I was able to connect a standard VCR player and an old hi8 camcorder via the device straight into the laptop using the ArcSoft software in the bundle. There are enough cables for most occasions I would have thought. The ArcSoft software may look a bit old-fashioned these days but I don’t mind that because it speaks to me of something very tried and very tested. You can perform some basic editing if you require. The process is Capture (your video footage); Edit (the footage into a storyboard); Produce (write storyboard to a DVD or MP4 file). When you capture your films using the software it creates MPEG2 files initially. This is the format I chose to create DVDs to be played in a standard DVD player. Not all DVD players like RW discs though, so if it doesn’t work it may be that you haven’t done anything wrong. It’s worth checking this first, find out if your DVD doesn’t play RW Discs. These MPEG2 files can then be converted to MP4 files, again using ArcSoft. I then uploaded these mp4s to my cloud platform so they could be shared around the family (can highly recommend pCloud BTW). I was able to create DVDs for those in the family who don’t use the internet and mp4s for those who do. It is a very simple process once you are familiar with it. The instructions that come with it are very thorough but read them carefully and take your time. They are written to cover pretty much every eventuality – you can almost feel the writer’s pain as he draws upon the experiences of many questions asked over the years!! But he shares that with us to make this a very smooth experience. For the price, if you have the time to spare, you can’t go wrong. I would estimate that for every hour of footage you have on video allow 2-3 hours to convert, edit and produce. And remember, the quality of your VCR / camcorder is a critical factor. If yours isn’t great then invest in another one, they are cheap as chips these days.

Really Good Product, Easy To Use & Superb Email Back-Up If You're Stuck!
This is a very good product and pretty easy to use when you get used to it. I Wanted to transfer some old Video 8 recordings onto my PC directly from my old Sony Video 8 camcorder. My PC is running Windows 8.1. I Did it this way to increase the chance of better image quality rather than run it through a video recorder. Of course Video 8 or old VHS video tapes are going to be a million miles away quality wise than anything recorded in HD or blu-ray etc but the never the less the quality is still very good. If you are going to do as I did, transfer directly from your camcorder to your PC/laptop there's something you should know. The leads supplied with this kit do NOT fit a camcorder, they are designed to plug into a video recorder. You need the original smaller jack lead plug that came with your camera (that's if your camera has the same output socket as mine). Its a bit misleading reading the instructions as they say 'Only use the leads supplied with this kit' and like I say the plugs are too big for the camera. I Pluged my original camcorder jack lead into the camera then plugged in the bigger yellow and white jack leads on the end of it into the ones supplied which are attached to a USB. After a few frustrating minutes of distorted picture & deafening feedback sound I swapped the plugs around from yellow to yellow, to white to yellow and hey presto, this did the trick! Perfect picture and perfect sound! I Have enclosed a photo of the leads, the thin black one is the one that came with my camera. Saving the video is really easy but I would suggest watching the supplied tutorial video a few times before you start. After you've 'captured' the video it's the editing part where some people might struggle. Myself I have been using Power Director video editing software for years so I am familiar with all the edits etc but new users might find it tricky to grasp at first. Also if you use other software to edit and make a film/video/DVD etc you will lose some quality. Obviously you don't have to edit if you don't want to. You can either burn the captured video straight onto DVD, upload straight to youtube or download it as a saved file to your PC. I Would advice you play around with the file saving to find the best image quality. For me it was saving as a QTMOV file. However when played in Windows media player there was no sound! This file is actually a Quick Time file so has to be played in Quick Time Player for the sound to appear. I Would also like to add that when I was struggling on a few things I emailed using the email address provided in the instructions and they emailed me back within two minutes! Very helpful people! To record directly from a Video Recorder is just as easy. You can also buy a VHS cassette on Amazon that actually plays video 8 tapes, they just slot inside and play on a VHS player. I Don't know what the quality is like being played through a video player and then recorded by video 2 PC in comparison to directly from the camcorder. So again very easy to use when you take the time to read everything, watch the tutorial video and have any of your camcorder leads available. Well recommended.

Good stuff!
This is a pretty nice product. I used it on a Toshiba Satellite Core i3 laptop to produce flawless transfers - something I have not seen reliably from other products. A word of caution: the driver/software installation is kind of a pain in the neck. The registration key is printed in a font that is somewhat difficult to read. They even give you a reference to their website to translate that font into something more readable. It took me 4 attempts to activate the software, but it was worth it. If you purchase this, you might as well look up that link in the instructions and go look at it, because you'll probably need it. In fact, I would suggest you read the entire installation guide before getting started. I ran across a problem with audio distortion on the first try, but the correction was mentioned in the documentation. My laptop is running Windows 10 and Video-2-PC works fine with it. It is purportedly compatible back to XP, but I didn't try that. Their suggestion to use a PC less than 6 years old makes some sense, although the analog to digital transfer occurs in the "dongle" that goes between the video source and your PC. If your PC is too slow to keep up with the transfer rate (or other things are running that make it too slow to keep up), you'll probably drop frames or wind up with video and audio that are out of sync. I also have access to Windows 7 and Windows 8.0, but I didn't try them either. I found a convenient, working solution and left it at that. I can say that the information they provided in the included documentation is accurate and the advertising seems to be truthful. If you're looking for such a solution and your equipment is match for what they state as requirements, you should come out just fine.

It Really Works!
This absolutely converts your VHS to DVD, and it's easy to install and use. They provide a "code" to override a copyright error. I suggest you use that code at the outset and save yourself the trouble of having to backtrack. I'm halfway through my collection of VHS and I'm so glad I purchased this kit.

An inexpensive digitizer that works with Windows 10!
Well after literally searching Amazon for any product that would let me digitize old VHS tapes AND work with windows 10, I settled on this product. Its publisher says yes it works on Windows 10, and it does. Many of the products available are old, with drivers written for older versions of Windows, and more importantly don't work in Windows 10. My system runs Windows 10 64-bit with 32 Gigs of RAM, and this video-2-PC digitizer product works extremely well on it. You WILL have trouble entering the serial number into the Arcsoft software, as the font used to print the serial number is, to be nice, less than helpful. After a solid 5 minutes of trying I noticed that the "U" in the printed serial number was a single pixel from looking like a "V", so not having much to lose I tried "V", and it worked. The serial is printed on the back of the install DVD's sleeve. It came with an unmarked DVD, just like what you'd use on your own pc. Pop it into your drive and a menu pops up. Regardless of your skill level the video they have is very helpful, as it goes into both the installation process and how to use the enclosed software. They did though have what I thought was a very unnecessary statement that you needed to unplug all USB devices before doing the install, then plug them in when done. I followed their 'request' anyway and it installed without issue. The unit itself is small, and without any markings. Yes it does get warm while plugged in, and one half of it glows a soft blue. it comes in a small white box with their logo stuck on top. Windows 7 users may have an issue during driver installation, but if they do the documentation AND the video both tell you how to fix that, should it come up. The software, Arcsoft Showbiz does the job, but it is a beginners package. It detected the digitizer and captured fine. I tried using the digitizer with my copy of Cyberlink PowerDirector 14, and it wasn't recognize. So you'll need to use Arcsoft for capturing. The file it saves is in MPEG format, so it was easily opened by PowerDirector. Beginners in video editing should do fine, while more advanced folks will likely just use Arcsoft for video capture, then use their chosen video editor to turn it into a DVD. The DVD also comes with a more advanced capture program, but it isn't the most user friendly. It also captures in uncompressed AVI format, so the capture file is gigantic. In short it works fine and is highly recommended. It is inexpensive and fairly problem free, other than the serial number readability issue. It pays to read their short 4 page instructions first, including the FAQ's at the end. Among other things it shows you how to fix Arcsoft's little issue of saying your home recorded video is copy protected. It is fixed with a one line edit of Arcsoft's config file via Notepad. The only issue I've had so far during capture was when I was fiddling with the screensaver settings while a capture was running. Windows had a momentary brain fart when I saved the screensaver settings, with the result being a momentary glitch in the video capture preview screen. Outwardly Arcsoft seemed fine, but when I viewed the capture file later it was missing all the captured date before the brain fart. I redid the capture of the first part of the video, then pasted them together flawlessly in Arcsoft. In short it pays to leave your pc alone while the capture is running. No biggie. I'm just happy the device works. Oh it also comes with all cables needed to attach the unit to your VHS recorder. Lastly the delivery estimates quoted by Amazon on this product are way off. Mine arrived from England about a week after ordering. Amazon quoted the delivery date 19 days after I got it. it comes registers mail so a signature is required for delivery.
