Bit confused, does the hub generate its own wireless network like the sonos music system or does it rely on the wireless range of my pc network?

Yes it uses its own wireless mesh network using the protocol called Zigbee Light Link. Like Sonos net it creates a mesh between the lights to connect to each other and the hub. Unlike Sonos there is not an option to utilise your own Wifi instead of the Zigbee protocol. With a mesh system by putting a light inbetween you can keep extending the distance from the hub. Finally the hub just connects to the Ethernet socket on your router.

Will this work if I plug an Ethernet cable into the Bridge from a Powerline adapter? My wireless signal is too poor to reach my bedroom.

To answer your question , No, but if you have more than 10 bulbs and want to set 'moods' and control away from home , set timers and change colour and ambiance then yes. I have 5 bulbs , two in lounge group, lamp and main light, one hallway lamp, and bedroom has lamp and light. if you are ok with just wanting to ask alexa to turn off or on and dim lights then you dont need this bridge
