A nice looking light with good illumination
I bought this to replace a faulty stainless steel up and down light. It's subjective but I think this one looks much better. The light is from a known brand and is very well made. It has a PIR detector so that it only comes on when the ambient light level is low, and it detects movement. It requires a large Edison screw bulb (not supplied) with a maximum wattage of 60 W. I've used a 9 watt LED bulb, which gives plenty of illumination and is a 60 W equivalent. Inserting the bulb simply requires unscrewing two screws to remove the cover. The light fitting is mainly made of die-cast aluminium, painted white, with a clear plastic lens. The part that screws to the wall, the back plate, is plastic with a rubber gasket. This contains the wiring, there's not a lot of room, but more than in other light fittings I've had.The electrical connection is made to an electrical terminal strip and is easy to wire up with clearly marked connections (although the neutral is marked with an 'X'). The instructions are relatively clear but are in the form of pictures rather than words. To fit it I found it was easier to disconnect the existing wiring from the terminal block in order to remove the lamp body (make a note of where the 3 wires are connected to). This is then easier to position where to fix it to the wall without the lamp body hanging down. Also, I taped the back of the two bolts so that they don't fall out.Important: Ensure that the power is turned off. There are no fixing screws, but I had two suitable wall plugs and screws. There are two recessed holes in the back plate, and these need to be drilled for the fixing screws. It is important to ensure that the back plate is truly vertical because there is no adjustment once screwed to the wall. After reconnecting the internal wiring and wiring up to the mains, I tested the light to ensure it came on. I then mounted the light onto the backplate, being careful not to disturb the gasket, which is held by two domed nuts with washers. These are very small and it is a little tricky to screw them on without dropping them, particularly if on a ladder. However, once mounted, the light fitting is secure.I was initially disappointed that the light no longer came on after the fitting was mounted, but decided to leave it until the evening, when it was dark, before checking the wiring. When I tested it then the light came on and everything worked perfectly. There are two adjustments on the side of the detector, one to set at what ambient light level the light will come on at, and I presume the other is to set the period of time that the light stays on for. I may have to fine-tune these settings but the current ones seem to be fine.I'm very pleased with the light, it is superior to the one it replaced and gives out more than adequate illumination. The current Amazon price is very competitive compared to elsewhere.

Sturdy lamp with a good quality motion sensor - would recommend.
This lamp has an aluminium frame with clear plastic sides and a plastic wall mount. Don't let the plastic put you off, the lamp is well constructed and sturdy. The motion sensor works well and is not triggered by wind or moving leaves. (I've experienced so many problems with security lights over the years where the sensor stops working or is over sensitive.) Fitting is straight forward, though it can be fiddly trying to hold the lamp body whilst fitting the cable to the terminals on the wall mount. There are 2 adjustments either side of the motion sensor - day/night setting and a time control for how long the lamp stays on.Just to be clear there is no adjustment of the motion sensor sensitivity. I did find that cars on the road (about 12 metres away) triggered the lamp so have resorted to putting white electrical tape over the top half of the sensor - problem solved.I would have given the lamp 5 stars if there had been a means of adjusting the sensitivity and perhaps a male/female wiring connector for plugging the lamp body into the wall mount (making fitting easier). Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase from Big Red Toolbox - at about £25 it has been a good purchase.Update - After nearly five years the wall light is still working without needing any attention. The only slight issue has been the loss of a small area of paint/finish from the frame near the base, exposing the aluminium.

Very smart!
Really nice lights. The sensor works well to come on and off as needed. Good replacement for the old type. Look very nice!

Excellent PIR exterior lights
More expensive than some exterior lights, but this one is built to last. Very well made and simple to install.Doesn’t come with a bulb, but thats the only downside side. PIR and ambient light sensitivity can be tuned so that it comes on when your preferred level of darkness and proximity are reached. Well worth the extra money.

Smart looking light
Smart looking light. Metal body, clear plastic 'glass'. A bit fiddly to put up. If on your own I suggest that you dismantle the lamp indoors (over a table) to remove the top and then the plastic 'glass' - this makes that part lighter and easier to manage when connecting. Detach the lamp from the back plate - there are small washers behind the thumb nuts - easy to lose. The instructions are good except that the wiring diagram is in black and white so it is not easy to distinguish between the brown live wire from the mains live feed to the PIR unit and the black wire from the PIR unit to the lamp. If you get this the wrong way round your light will not work. If you get it right your light will work, however, be aware that the light will initially go on once connected to power even if it is broad daylight. Don't be fooled into thinking something is wrong and the lamp is always on. I suggest making sure that the light sensor adjustment (on side of PIR) is set to night and then when the lamp initially comes on leave it several minutes to see that it does go off. Take care not to drop the fiddly screws, nuts and washers when you put the lamp back together again.

Faulty sensor
I based my five stars on the following: easy installation, appearance, value for money, sensor and recommended to a friend.Installation was simple despite poor instructions, later checked by an electrician. As you can see by the photo, it looks good in my opinion.Item was bought in the sale so value was exceptional compared to similar products at the time if purchase.Sensor is where the let down is, as it doesn't work at all. This has been checked over by an electrician confirming its faulty.Recommended to a friend; yes but get the one without a sensor or factor in time to check. I left it too late and missed the return time frame.A fair three stars, in my opinion.

Great looking light
GeneralA very modern looking light, a twist from the traditional style of a fire within a lamp well. The shell is made from aluminium and the windows made with plastic so it is pretty light weight compared to the metal casing and glass windows alternative. The windows being made from plastic can make it feel cheap but you wouldn't be able to tell it was plastic just by looking at it. It also means it is less likely to shatter on impact. This light is also compatible with LED bulbs so you can save some wattage while getting the most lumens. I'm currently using a 4W LED E27 SES bulb which is equivalent to a 40W incandescent bulb. Luohaoshi Dimmable 4-Pack 4W G45 E27 SES LED Filament Mini Globe Bulb Warm White 2700K 40W Incandescent Equivalent Edison Screw E27 LED Antique Clear Golf BallInstallationNot as simple as it should be, but ultimately there weren't any complications if you know a few details.First off I want to mention that mine didn't come with the back screws or raw plugs to the back wall. It could be that these type of lighting don't normally come with any screws or raw plugs, but you still need to be aware before you start installation and removing any old lighting. The back panel also didn't have the holes needed to screw into the wall so you will need to make your own either by drilling into it or cutting it out.The electrical wires are colour coded (as they should be nowadays) so wiring any existing wires from your house to the light is not an issue. I suggest you disconnect the lighting from the back base so it's easier to screw the base into the wall. Take a picture before you disconnect or refer to the manual so you know where the wires should go when you reconnect them.Other reviews have mentioned how "fiddly" it is to screw on the caps to fit the lighting onto the base unit. They are not wrong. The screws these caps are suppose to be attach too are about 1-2 mm too short, and unfortunately can be pushed back into the base unit if you are too forceful. These caps are also tiny, especially if you have big hands, and so if you drop them outside you can so easily lose them. To overcome this, I would suggest you put a large light colour sheet or blanket on the ground beneath where your light installation will be to catch the caps and prevent them from bouncing around too much. I would also remove the existing washers on the screws to gain back about 1mm and give you some more leg (finger) room.ConfigurabilityTwo rotating screws on each side - one to adjust for how long the light stays on, and the other for it's daylight sensitivity before the motion sensor begins to work. Because it's a rotating screw you can't get the exact timing or daylight sensitivity and so you must do it by trial or error. I wished it had more settings to adjust for the motion sensor range and angle (as it is slightly too short where I have put it up) but I knew about this when I bought it.Conclusion (TLDR)Very nice modern looking light, supports LED, simple settings but have moderate installation issues. It's a high rating because once it has all been installed it looks great and works as intended even if the controls can't allow for precise settings. Loses a star mainly because of the caveats during installation.
