. Review: Great Album -- And I'm a Huge Derek Trucks Band Fan - I was a little skeptical at first about what studio creation would result from the husband and wife team. Mostly, I was afraid that the magic of the Derek Trucks Band would be lost. How much of the music would feature Derek? I must say, the greatest treat for a music fan is all of the great stuff on an album that take you by surprise. Especially coming to discover that the Tedeschi Trucks band is bringing out the best in the best guitar player in the world (Mr. Trucks of course). Songwriting: This song is very lyrical. Lots of emotional content. Trucks' solos feed off of this -- i.e. Midnight in Harlem solo is a slow blues masterpiece. The songs on this album are way deeper than Already Free. Simple Things is an up tempo ballad that makes me think of loved ones right away (even though I'm not really sure what exactly the song is about, which I like). Many of these songs have an abstract element to them I've never heard from a Trucks project. Musicianship: Top notch. Derek is getting better with every album he puts out -- by far, his solos in some of these songs have the tightest melody lines I have ever heard from him. Love the horn section. Makes for some great funk. Would like to hear a few more Kofi keys' solos. Vocals: I had never listened to Susan much, but she is very talented. I love Mike Mattison's voice as well and would love to hear one song featuring him with some higher harmonies from Susan (at least give Mike a solo in Bound for Glory). This is their first album -- I suspect they will mix it up more in the future. Still, I like Susan as the vocal leader because her tones seem to add a perfect layer. In conclusion, this album is my album of the year so far. I like it better than Warren Haynes new project (although I love that album too). It still amazes me how many people have yet to discover a talent like Derek Trucks. But I kinda like that when I go see he and his bands live, I can be up close without too much hassle. And tomorrow night, I am seeing them live. Can't wait to see this outfit for this first time. I am pumped! Review: Musicianship - Every track is good. Great debut. Any fan will love this

Up, down, all around.....
Live performances by the Allman Brothers are religion to me so you know where I am coming from. Derek Trucks is just a superior guitar player and his work shines on this CD, albeit perhaps too laid back. Susan Tedeschi has a stunning voice. I am a fan. She does have a strong style that can seem repetitive at first. I bought this CD and immediately thought the sound quality was sub par. Surprising. My first run through listening to the album, I was not blown away. I was also unhappy with the version of Midnight in Harlem that was recorded...Tempo is way to slow... Listen to their version on Clapton's Crossroads 2010. That one song makes that Clapton BluRay worth buying.... Its stunning...go listen... that to me is music as religion... [...] Fast forward 3 days of non-stop listening and I am far more impressed with this album. There are MANY great tunes here.... And the rest are at least GOOD. Despite the less than ideal sound, its a buy at 10 bucks... I too want a Blu Ray 24 bit 7.1 live recording of this album....why not they are on tour right now playing this................ [...] Enjoy - I think Tedeschi and Trucks are the "modern" day Allman Brothers with the added ability to fuse many forms of music (blues, rock, southern, soul, funk, world) to high appeal. I like they are married and seem down-to-earth despite their famous famalies and upbringing.

Superb debut
Revelator is the Tedeschi Trucks Band's debut and it's a great one. Having already released a lot of great music with their solo bands as well as with the Allman Brothers Band, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks take their roots in Americana and Southern rock and add some R&B horns and vocals to make music that is timeless. "Come See About Me" starts the album out strong with Trucks' tasty slide guitar leading the way while "Don't Make Me Slide" and "Bound For Glory" are both stunners with memorable horn lines with the former having a strong gospel feel while the latter plays like an anthem with its memorable lyric and Susan's great vocals. The tracks "Simple Things" and "Ball and Chain" are strong mid-tempo soul tracks which work very well while "Learn How to Love" and "Love Has Something Else to Stay" are grittier and sassier. The slower tunes are all magnificent as "Midnight in Harlem" has a memorable melody that sticks in your head on first listen, "These Walls" starts out psychedelic before becoming a mellow country tune and "Until You Remember" is a beautiful ballad. "Shelter" ends the proper album on a very tender note as Susan's vocals and Derek's guitar lines will make you weep. The unnamed last track is a pretty cool jam as well. Between their original music and their great live performances, I believe that Tedeschi Trucks Band are the best band that has emerged this decade and Revelator is an outstanding testament of their talents.

LOVE!
I love this band. Susan grew up in the town next to mine, so we saw her very early performances in the Boston area - so glad the rest of the country recognized her talent & love her voice and music. We saw this band in CT and couldn't have been more entertained and appreciated their varied musical talent. This is a good CD for a newcomer, and for those who already love this band. To me, the music is throwback to the Allman Brothers (no surprise) and Joni Mitchell's 70's music. Just a great series of songs and talent.

I can't say enough good things about this album. I've seen/heard albums go sideways and lose focus when there is a wealth of talent involved in the project. This is not the case with this album. It would have been very easy to sit back and ride the wave of talent and have the songwriting be secondary. This album takes another approach entirely. The songs are well crafted, the musicians let the songs breath yet still excite with every note. This album just feels right. Susan's vocal phrasing and the taste/soul that she sings with is so refreshing. Derek is a truly gifted musician and demands your undivided attention with his playing (don't miss a note). I won't break down the individual songs as there is no filler here. It's all good. Listen for yourself, you won't be disappointed. Great band, that made a great record. This is what music should be.

Torn between 4 and 5 stars for this review. Derek Trucks has made some fine albums (check them out elsewhere on amazon) and he has a superbly fluid style with the guitar. On this album the style moves on yet again - with some delicious interplay with Susan Tedeschi and the rest of the very fine band - and it deserves to be aa huge success. File it under blues / rock / soul as you see fit - its a cracking good album. The catch is that there is one obvious area for improvement, which is - at the risk of starting a domestic... - the vocal range. I have to agree with the reviewer who said that Susan Tedeschi's vocals are quite ... edgy and energetic, or even "rough". Sometimes this works (eg the opener, come see about me) and on some tracks she sings in a gentler more melodic style (shelter, midnight in harlem). But elsewhere - it grates. And it grates even more if you know DT's earlier albums, and you've heard the vocals on them (Mike Mattison is the lead singer) - very soulful and melodic. You can hear him on harmony vocals on this CD too. So ... If anyone from TTB is reading this - please please for the next album(s), share the lead singing duties between Mike Mattison and Susan Tedeschi...
