Director Eric Brevig's adaptation of the classic Jules Verne adventure story is the first live-action feature to be shot in digital 3-D. His scientific theories rubbished by his eminent colleagues, Professor Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser) sets off on a backpacking trip to Iceland to get away from it all with his nephew Sean (Josh Hutcherson) and local guide Hannah (Anita Briem). Stumbling across a previously unknown cave system, the explorers soon find themselves journeying deeper and deeper into the earth's core, on a rollercoaster ride into an unknown world populated by man-eating plants, lava lakes, and some seriously hungry dinosaurs. Review: BRENDAN FRASER'S "JOURNEY" DVD - For once the blurb on the reverse of the DVD sleeve is right! "The Family Fantasy Film of the Year 10 out of 10 " Released in 2008 this is just what it says - An excellent adventure/fantasy, suitable for all the family but containing enough thrills, spills and danger to satisfy young and old(er) brains. The CGI is spectacular without being overwhelming, and the plot, whilst basically Jules Verne, is bang up to date, and doesn't suffer for it. One of the things I liked were the three characters _ Fraser not quite the scientist/professor, but excellent. Josh Hutchison as his nephew (when we forst meet him he is a sulky uncomunicative 13 year old, but very quickly becomes a very likeable 13 year old.). As for Icelandic actress Anita Briem....If you are going to be trapped at the Centre of the Earth....! No need to describe the plot (I hope) - just lets say the film rips along at a great pace for 90 mins. The DVD is excellent (In my package I got a 3D version with glasses, I watched the 2D). Great picture, sound an subtitles. Extras not seen by me. If you feel like a genuinly unpretentios adventure for all the family - this is it! Review: Good - It was a good film. Then I watch there original in 2023 that one was better.

Excellent family fun!!!
I felt I must write a review for this title because it doesn't deserve so many bad reviews. I bought this as christmas present for our young children and decided to watch it with my husband last night. It had us both ducking out of the way of the various 3D objects/animals lurching at us from the screen! The 3D works very, very well. It isn't perfect. There is a slight 'ghost' effect and the colour is obviously affected by the glasses but I think this is as good as it could ever be for home viewing. The 3D aside though, the film isn't as good as it could be, it felt as though it was rushed towards the end. Silly plot, cheesy acting in parts, but so what? It IS a kids film! (Though I would have liked a few more creatures in there.) But the 3D does make it worth while. And If my husband and I where impressed, our kids are going to be amazed! (knowing that they have never seen a 3D film before). My only serious complaint is that this Region 2 disc only comes with 2 sets of glasses, while the Region 1 disc comes with 4. Had I known this before purchase, I would have looked elsewhere for the Region 1 version because, of course, only 2 people can watch it at once. If anyone knows where I could buy more 3D magenta/green glasses, I love to hear from you! :-) All in all, a fantastic bit of fun for the family! As long as there is only 2 people in your family...

Good movie
Great movie. The 3d was quite good too. Been a long time since we’ve watched a film like this but the children enjoyed it.

Fun 3D which children will love
I give it 5 stars for the 3D special effects which are completely over the top and so funny. If it can come straight towards you, it does. The emphasis is on the 3D rather than the story. I originally bought this film in the DVD version with the magenta and green cardboard framed specs, which was almost unwatchable except at close quarters on a computer monitor. This Blu-ray version is the real thing, although not as comfortable to watch as 3D films from James Cameron or Peter Jackson - the latest camera designs are much better. I think that children will love this film.

watched in 2D
I can't say how this was in 3D - I'm sure it was magnificent - but a 3D really should be able to hold itself in 2D as well - this one didn't, not entirely anway. I did enjoy it, mainly because I love the concept and I love anything Jules Verne (what an imagination!). The acting by the two adults thought was, I thought, mediocre and there was absolutely no chemistry between the two. The CGI was okay, I've seen a lot better, but overall they were enjoyable. I think some of the scenes could have been shortened and others lengthened - the scriptwriters and editor didn't get the pace right at all. The best thing about this film though was the performance by young actor Josh Hutcherson he simply stole it. He is an extremely natural and talented actor who the adults in this would do well to study. He emotes effortlessly and gives a superb performance in everything I have seen him in. Overall it is an enjoyable romp but I think maybe this is better as a 3D experience from what I have heard.

Great movie
I really enjoyed watching this film in 3D. It is a shame you only get two pairs of glasses, you should really get four. And wish they had been better made (eg plastic and not card). Anyway, really enjoyed the film and watching it in 3D is a whole new experience. The 3D effects are really good, and of course will depend on the size of the screen you are watching it on. Yes, the colour isn't really there when you are watching the 3D version, but the 2D version is also on the disc. Don't know about anyone else, but I was seeing green and red for about five minutes after I took the glasses off! Would recommend getting this film, and as more films are coming out in 3D hopefully they will start bringing out better quality glasses.

Most Enjoyable on 3D - watch the price
My wife and I enjoyed watching this film sometime ago in 2D. Having now a system which could take Blue-Ray 3D we decided to buy and watch this film in 3D. It was thoroughly enjoyable. A fantasy children's film but the 3D effects were really effective. There were plenty of times when items came "out" of the TV towards you, and the depth "into" the TV really enhanced the film. The price fluctuates wildly between about £8 and £15. So i suggest if you want to buy it wait for the price to come down. At under under £10 it is real value for money.

This is a great movie and I just had to write a review after seeing it. I can assure anyone who is looking for a great movie to watch and that is available in 3D ( I love Blu-Ray 3D but the selection is a bit limited ) That this movie is simply tons of fun to watch and enjoy. The film is lighthearted in nature, and the acting is actually much better then I expected. Kudo's to the Director and to all of the cast. The 3D effects are amoung the best I have seen so far. I have been buying Blue Ray 3D movies and some of them are great stuff to watch, and others are absolutely awful to watch. No plot, worse acting, and no real 3D effects. ( I should add here that when I bought my 3D system, none of the reviews i came across mentioned the difference between passive and active 3D. So I bought an LG 47 inch passive 3D 6200 series TV. It was one of the highest and best ranked TVs. Later I discovered that Active 3D has significantly better 3d effects. I didn't do my homework.. And nothing was mentioned regarding the 2 different types of 3D available when I was reading through Amazon product specifications either. I actually was unaware there were 2 different types of 3D at the time. If I could do it again I would definitely buy a Samsung LED TV with Active 3D, and may still do so, while delegating this TV to a different room. But as I wrote above I should have done some research. Actually the LG model I did buy has some pretty good Passive 3D abilities and LG displays are excellent for HD movies also. so I can wait for a bit while pricing points start to drop on all of this 3D tech. As prices always do drop especially on TV systems. ) Anyway I wanted to include the above information because even on my passive 3D system, this film had tons of great special effects flying out of the TV and aiming right for me... I actually tried to block an image of a small rock that was flying right at me, instinctively.. Pretty amazing for a 3D passive system. I can only imagine what this film would be like with Active 3D tech. So I highly recommend this film for everyone, its not violent, its not scary! It is very engaging for the type of movie that it is. And it has some suspense filled moments. It has been done with an overall sense of very good Humor throughout the film, and has, of course, the usual but well managed love interest theme going on throughout it. Getting into the great mood and the upbeat rhythm of this film is easy to do and its a great 3D movie on an early Saturday evening type of movie. It has a really good sound track as well.
