If you're using your Sony top-handle without this, you're missing out on what should have been included by Sony. The additional cold shoe mount and 1/4-20 threads are very handy if you're mounting a light, microphone, or other camera accessories (don't go too heavy though, as the handle is still made of plastic. The additional rigidity and protection it offers to the top handle should provide some peace of mind. This is best used with the handle extension, which offers even more mounting points.

Nice addition to xlr handle, adds cold shoe as well as multiple threaded mounting spots. Also adds protection, can’t go wrong with that.
