Opening the pool for the summer, we live in South Carolina, we open early. Our old salt chlorinated died so we got this. Our pool (above ground - 5,000 gal) went from super cloudy, can't even see the vacumn pole to counting the squares on the bottom in 2 days!!! Its preforming so good we had to shut it off, the chlorine is off the charts! We have had it running for a week pretty much nonstop though. Great product!

***original review from April 2018*** I had the last generation salt system on my pool and got a season out of it before it stopped working. Intex sent me a new one but I bought this one because I couldn't wait two weeks for it to arrive. When this one dies I have a backup while i'm waiting for a replacement. I bought this well aware I will be getting 1-2 seasons max out of this. I have an 18' round steel above ground pool and this works great. I keep it on three hours a day and have no issues getting sufficient chlorine in my pool. It's been running for about 45 days so far and no issues. It has a three year warranty and their customer service is good overall. Replacements take a couple weeks to arrive so keep it in mind when your unit craps out. Even thought the life span is so short I still think it's worth not having to deal with chlorine in my pool. No smelly skin, no chemical balancing issues, no green pool. Saltwater is the BEST. One end screws onto the salt system and your pool hoses slide over the other end and get clamped down. No leaks at all. I'm going to update this review at the end of this season or if the unit dies before then. **October 2018 Update** I just closed my pool down yesterday. As I was closing it down I thought I would record a video with my opinions. Feel free to watch it or just read below. The generator functioned as intended the entire season. It kept my 18" above ground non Intex pool crystal clear all year. The only thing I added to my pool was to bring the hardness level up a bit and added a bit of salt when I had to drain the pool because of the rain. Besides that I put nothing else in my pool from April to October. It ran for four hours a day and kept everything beautiful. I'm hoping I get a lot more use from it next year when it's opened again but we shall see. For $129 will keep buying these even if they only last a year, because it saves from having to buy chlorine and the frustration of having to add it and keep everything balanced. Highly recommended for an above ground pool Intex or not. **update April 2019** Opened my pool April 2019. Plugged this in and it fired right up. I installed a new liner so I filled with fresh water, put in the salt to about 2,800 and balanced the water. So far the generator fired right back up and is sanitizing my water. I will update the review again if the unit dies or makes it this year***

This works just like the product says it will. I add the required amount of salt at the beginning of the season and let this little pump do all the work. I check my water once a week to make sure that it's within the range that it is supposed to be in. I have had a Intex pool in my backyard for the 15 years. This is the 2nd chlorine system that I have purchased. The first one was no fault of Intex. I stored it in the shed and the mice chewed up the electrical.

Do not buy this. No matter how tempting it is with the low price and the eye-catching packaging. There are clearly defects in the product. The System has a ground fault interrupter plug at the end. That's the good news. The bad news is the first one we bought didn't work. It would not reset or trip when we pushed the buttons. We tried everything. So, I literally unscrewed it, took the 3 wires off of it, and put them on a regular plug. I read that others had the same problem, and had to remove the GFI plug. No safety problem for me because the plug was going into a GFI outlet anyway. So, we got it up and running, and for about 1/2 hour, everything looked good. Then, I saw a red light on the right side panel indicating that the salt level in the pool was too high. I thought that was strange, because when I installed the system, I tested the salt level numerous times to make sure it was correct. In fact, it was actually low. But once the system indicates the salt level is too high, the generator shuts down and no more chlorine. My wife called the technical support folks, and wait till you hear what they suggested she do. Take the system apart, find the "plate" that generates the chlorine and soak it in vinegar. She told them that the product was brand new, and the person on the other end of the phone said to do it anyway. My wife said it sounded like the person on the other end of the phone was just reading from a support manual, and actually ha no idea of what she was talking about. Nope. Not going to take it apart. I figured I would return it to Amazon and get another one. So, Amazon came through and in a few days, we had another system. This time the GFI plug functioned as it's supposed to. I was excited. Then, after about 1/2 hour, guess what happened. Yes, the dreaded, salt level is too high light came on again. Again, I ran salt level tests, and the salt level is low. So, I'm returning this one too, and asking for my money back. And, just to see what other folks have experienced, I went on Reddit and guess what I found. Yep, others were having the same problem. But I didn't see this problem on Amazon. Maybe it's just me, but I believe you get what you pay for. If you look at all the name brand pool supply companies, Pentair and Haywood, their salt generators cost 5 times as much as this one. There's a reason for that. We're just going to put hockey pucks of chlorine in the skimmer (Clorox has one designed for a skimmer), make sure I have enough cyanuric acid in the water, and call it a summer.

A month ago, the grade would have been 1 (bad!!), but now its 4 because it keeps my pool water beautiful without intervention from me. After fighting the high salt alarm for a month, my Intex Saltwater System (chlorine generator) has worked flawlessly for 17 consecutive days! My conclusion is that the high salt alarm circuit is faulty (it alarms for the wrong reason) and the electrodes need a break-in period. According to the analysis by the pool supply store my current salt level is higher than it was when the high-salt alarms were going off. I agree with that analysis. I started the salt concentration at the 3000 parts per million that was recommended by Intex and 2 weeks ago shocked the pool with hypochlorite. In the month and a half that I've had this unit I have NOT cleaned the electrodes with vinegar. That didn't help the previous unit so I didn't even try on this one. What has helped most is running the pump at least an hour before starting the chlorine generator, and, during the "break-in period", tricking the high-salt alarm by running fresh water (about 3 gpm) into the skimmer (with pump running) for about 20 minutes before starting the chlorine generator. Another “trick” that seemed to work was turn the chlorine generator off for 36 hours. I set the self-clean cycle to reverse polarity every 6 hours, because my water has calcium hardness is 250 to 300 ppm, Here's my story. May 3rd I started up the chlorine generator (Intex Saltwater System with E.C.O. (Electrocatalytic Oxidation) model ECO5110) on our new Intex 16 foot above the ground pool and set it to do the Boost cycle. It ran for at least 10 and a half hours. The next morning I found it had terminated its cycle early for high salt alarm. After leaving it off for 2 days (while doing initial acid and cyanuric acid additions) it ran successfully for 6 hours, then the following day ran a couple of hours before failing on high-salt alarm. I called Intex and was advised to clean the electrodes with vinegar, which I did. But the unit continued to fail for high-salt every time I tried to start it up. We returned the unit to Amazon and they shipped us another unit. The second unit exhibited similar pattern: it worked well for about two days then started having high-salt alarms, even though the salt content of the pool water had not changed (and was at the Intex recommended concentration). I discovered the run-fresh-water-through-it trick and the leave-it-off-for-a-day trick mentioned above, which would get it to run for a few hours. sometimes as much as 5 or 6 hours, before having another high-salt alarm. Working these tricks we kept our water clean with about 1 ppm chlorine for 4 weeks. The final "cure" came when we were out of town 5 days. We left the pump on a 12 hour per day cycle and left the chlorine generator on a 6 hour/day cycle, but knew the chlorine generator would fail, thus would be on only a few seconds per day. Sure enough, when we returned our pool water was cloudy green and the inside walls of the pool where little slimy. I adjusted the pH and shocked it with sodium hypochlorite a few times until the water was beautiful again – clear, clean and the walls were not slimy anymore. The third day home I started up the chlorine generator and it ran successfully for the set 6 hours. There have been no high-salt alarms since. The pump runs automatically 12 hours a day and the chlorine generator comes on about an hour after the pump starts. At first the chlorine generator was set to run 6 hours a day but for the last 2 weeks it has been running it 9 hours a day to get the chlorine level up to 1 to 2 ppm each day (Daytime temperatures have been in the 90s Fahrenheit). Our pool is only 2500 gallons and this chorine generator claims to treat up to 7500 gallons, so having to run this unit 9 hr/day seems too much. But the water stays beautiful with no chlorine smell or soreness! So, I grade it 4 of 5 – marked way down for the month of nursing through its break-in period, but marked back up because it now keeps our pool water so nice without nursing it at all. I can’t give it a 5 because of the initial trouble.

I thought I'd hop on here and write a review about this saltwater chlorinator because I also used the previous model. (note:Nothing wrong with the previous model, my lawn service ran over the cord) The last two summers I put up an Intex 12 ft x 30 in pool and this year I put up a 10 ft by 30 inch pool both by Intex. I know this system is a little overkill for this pool size but I love getting a pool big enough to cool off in without using tons of water with a superior filter system so it has the smallest amount of maintenance. The first two years I had the larger pool placed in the grass in full sun. I did mostly well with the setup but I did have some greener or cloudy water days compared to this year. (I shocked it more often) I'm not sure yet if it's because it was warmer earlier in the year (this year it's still getting down to the 60's at night and previous years it was probably 70 or 80 at night) lower temperatures can affect algae growth as the more human warm temps make it flourish. I also feel like setting the pool up off the grass has helped so much because the less grass that makes it into the pool the better. I will say that I run this system as much as possible. I have it set to run for 12 hours. I know in the past I would do like 6 or 8 thinking about saving energy but DO NOT do that. It doesn't use much energy at all and it's so much more work to have to mess around with getting rid of algae. It automatically comes on because of the pump I'm using with it and runs all day. I haven't had to do a single thing and it's been up for 2 weeks besides fish out leave with my strainer. I also think you should clean out the filter every week with a spray down and buy a new filter every month. Haven't had to clean mine out yet. I haven't received any high or low salt warnings (I did calculate the exact salt amount) and with my previous version when I did receive them I cleaned the cell before adding salt or ditching water. Overall I find this product to be great and I think it will be at least 2-4 summers based on my experience with this value of pump. Note: This is the pump I'm using, I bought it because it was the one I had before and I had all the attachments already-it's easy to use and has a timer. Purchased this salt water machine along with the matching intex sand filter. Easy to install, and worked amazing! Installed in June and had crystal clear pool water until the day we closed it down in September, with barely any maintenance. Highly recommend for busy people who don’t want the hassle of traditional pool chemicals.

Very happy with my new saltwater system. I purchased a similar system from Intex in 2014 and it ran reliably for years. Started up every year. All I had to do was add enough salt to the pool to trigger the right ppm level and it ran great. So much more enjoyable than chlorine with all the work and monitoring. The Saltwater system is amazing. I was able to install my replacement unit in literally 2 minutes. The setup is slightly different, but I love it. This new unit has a self-cleaning mode which I look forward to testing. The old unit required periodic removal of the anode and soaking in vinegar or CLR, so this will be a nice upgrade. The picture has my original 2014 model on the left and the new one on the right.

Had to upgrade after our original salt water chlorinator died. I was really impressed how easy it was to switch over to this new one, not to mention how easy it is to use. It cleared up our salt issue within 24 hours and we haven’t had a problem with our pool since.

Nous avons dû commander des adaptateurs et il y a un problème avec le filetage d’un d’entre eux qui fait qu’il ne se visse pas complètement à cause du « seal » et il coule. Assurez-vous d’avoir les dimensions exactes de vos tuyaux et d’utiliser du Téflon sur les filets des tuyaux avant de les visser. Aussi, les bandelettes de tests qui venaient avec étaient probablement expirées et inefficaces, nous avons dû en commander d’autres. Peu cher à l’achat, il génère quand même quelques dépenses inattendues…

Works great. 1 bag of salt for a 18' x48" pool. Way less than the old version. Tells temp and salt ppm. Plumbing fit old version. Plug and play. Very pleased.
