ERP WR51X10055 Refrigerator Defrost Heater

My used GE Profile (TFX25PPBGBB) quit cooling and it turned out the freezer coil was a solid block of ice. I replaced the defrost timer, defrost thermostat, and this heater. The heater was a perfect replacement, fit exactly, and I just now ran the fridge through a defrost cycle and watch the heater glow red for 15 minutes or so until the thermostat clicked it off. Clearly it's working properly. Great price and I expect I'll get another 10 years out of this fridge now. Happy :)

***UPDATE*** March 2024Last defrost heater was purchased Sept. 2016 from this seller. It finally failed in February 2024. (The defrosters are a consumable part and do need to be replaced over time) It worked flawlessly for almost 7.5 years. The fridge is now over 24 years old, and is still working great, thanks to being able to purchase parts like this.OCT. 2016This is the 2nd defrost heater I have had to put in my GE fridge in 16 years of owning it. It took me all of 25 minutes to install. A simple fix to keep the frost free freezer frost free.

Bought this in January 2023. I was super happy to find a video on YouTube that diagnosed the issue on my freezer and showed how to fix it. Installed the defroster and it worked fine for about 9 months. I defrosted my freezer and cleaned everything out. It froze right back. This did not last at all. Would not recommend it.

Look for the defrost heater at the bottom of the coils in the freezer. It has a bulb inside the metal housing, which is hard to see until you unplug metal housing on each end. If the bulb is black on either end, replace it. New defrost heater just plugs in at each end; very simple. Temperature is now 0-5 deg in freezer, and about 38 deg in frig. I also installed defrost thermostat, two temperature sensors, and control panel (motherboard) in back of frig, exclusively with amazon parts for a total of $130, which included shipping. Cooling nicely now. Turns off and on as it should instead of running constantly. I highly recommend that you watch the PartSelect.com videos on how to repair your particular frig, e.g., just type in your model number, e.g., GSS25JFPD CC. Frig parts are cheaper from Amazon, with few exceptions. I am not very handy. You can do all this yourself, with only a few tools. Watch the PartSelect.com videos first. Your kitchen & surrounding area will be messy for a while, unless you order all the parts before you begin, which is what I strongly recommend, i.e., order a defrost thermostat, 2 temperature sensors, control board, and defrost heater all at the same time ($130 for my GE frig).... after they arrive, clean out and defrost your frig. Then repair it. If you order one part, install it, order another part, install it, et cetera, it may take you three weeks. That's what I did... three weeks. But I saved $2000-$2500 by not buying a new frig.

My freezer portion of my refrigerator/freezor kept freezing up in one solid piece of ice. I replaced the heater element (this product) and the thermostat for less than $50 total and the problem is solved. I was expecting aa service repair person to charge me nearly $1,000 had I used them instead. Try this first; it's easy, effective, and if your coils are freezig up; this is likely your problem. Tip: Remove the old one, use a continutiy tester. If the heater is not continuous, then it needs to be replaced. Simple.

Update: Changed from 5 to 2 as it only lasted an year.It fit my G&E fridge and it's working fine for few weeks now.

Nothing not to like, it is a defroster heater which serves to keep the ice from building up on the condenser fins in the back of the freezer. Very easy to remove and to reinstall. The units I ordered arrived a day or two earlier than projected which was helpful. I installed one of them and I have a spare should or more aptly this one burn out. This if the 3rd one I have installed in this fridge and I expect to install yet another one in the future but it certainly beats buying a new fridge when this is the only problem it has. The heater unit is a good design, it's just where the manufacturer placed it is not ideal.

What can I say? It was a fair price and a direct replacement for the heater that died in my refrigerator. I paid for "expedited shipping", which I'm not so sure affected the speed at which I got this from the seller... and when you have a dead refrigerator, every hour counts!However, I'm happy... the device installed fine, works, and has been working for several days.
