What is the weight in pounds what I can put on top of that tripod

It’s meant for a laser level or transit level which only weigh a few pounds. I’d guess you could put up to 10 lbs on it without too much problem

EV170... Does the stud on top swivel to screw on an instrument or do you have to screw the instrument around and around?

The screw itself turns from underneath The one i bought had a larger thread that is standard on my laser and sight level. Well made tripod. Better than original. Good people to deal with. I messed up one leg and they helped me out with a replacement. 100% my fault

What is the max height this can reach up to?

This is a guess, because i never measured it. But id say around 5ft. It depends on how far apart you set the legs. Its pretty much the same as the other ones I have had. But it is well made.

This appears to be the same exact tripod as the Stabila branded. Any insights?

Don't know about that particular question, but it is a well made tripod. Way better that the original that came with my laser. Good people to deal with.
