Good, but can be hard to follow if you do not know the story
This is an adaptation of the book(s) of the same name by Louisa Marie Alcott, written shortly after the American Civil War. It was a semi-autobiographical novel about her experiences growing up with her sisters and becoming a writer at a time when it was taboo for a woman to write anything but letters. There was, of course, a film adaptation done in 1994 starring Wynona Ryder, but this is a modern, alternative adaptation of the story with new actresses in the starring roles, including Saoirse Ronan (playing Jo, who was the character analog of Louisa), Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern (playing the matriarch of the family). The movie was written and directed by Greta Gerwig. She made the decision to start the movie with the women as adults, and then use parts from the first novel when they were girls growing up in New England as flashbacks. For those who are not familiar with the story, this method of telling it can make the movie hard to follow. That said, I do not think the movie deserves one star like some of the reviewers have given it, because the acting, the cinematography, and the overall story are all extremely good. For those who get the Blu-Ray, the movie looks and sounds great in high-definition. There are about an hour's worth of extras, give or take, including several behind-the-scenes featurettes and a feature on the Alcott house, which has been preserved and saved multiple times from being torn down. A decent amount of material for those who like going through the bonus features. While I think it would have been better to tell the story in a linear fashion, it is still a very good, and extremely well acted adaptation of the story. Definitely worth checking out.

WELL DONE
A MUST HAVE. When I was almost a teenager I lived in a small mountain village. A bus came through , out and back 6 days a week. The library was at the end of the route. I discovered '"LITTLE WOMEN" and Louisa May Alcott. Well it was difficult to carry all those 10 or more books home but to miss the bus meant a very long walk home. When I saw that a film had been on a DVD,,I ordered it, it arrived and my dear partner had a nose that would turn up at the thought I would spend what he felt was "another" female story. This nasty virus had kept us together for a long time. So with my hopes on high I waited for the time. He arrived from the garden. Would you believe he never left that story and continue to exclaim his unexpected delight at both the author, depiction of a time I had attempted to describe without overdoing my delight with the clever way this story had been more than a story. As I write I recall his attention to what he had discovered was a brilliant and so well described vision that more than met my tales of living at my adolescent age that rang true. His admiration for Alcott, 5 young females living together and all was exactly as I had raved about for so long. Now he is waiting for more Alcott and if luck prevails perhaps we will learn how the females made good lives for themselves. Now the archived beaded dresses up in the attic began to be worn, from a man who wanted to feel the experience ." UNBELIEVABLE" continues to be exclaimed as he thrives on truth. Yes all was true that I had stated. Thank you to all who put a lot of heart into creating this movie. This was well done. I think we shall always have ALCOTT days, with a touch of feather beds, henna hair, dreams of future accdomplisments and wait to learn there is more to come. It had to have taken quite a bit of hard work to bring those days and hopefeully the crew that read, many times, please thank them for bringing unexpected happiness at a time when all are waiting for better healty days.
