Can I feed cat from the can instead of transferring to the dish?

I've done once when I fed a street cat (it was abroad), and I didn't have any bowl or plate. After he ate about half, I decided to feed using a wood branch I picked up from the ground just in case the cat might injure the tongue.

I didn't order mine on 7/14/16. I ordered over a month ago, but mine expires Feb 20,2018...if that helps you any.
