How many total cartridges are included? The box says 2 Refills. It’s not clear whether these are needed to begin (2 total) or not.

Hi, The refill kit included 2 cartridges, so the box included 2 cartridges.

Does it work for drain flies?

I can't say for sure. I do know there were plenty of smaller flying insects stuck to the adhesive -- gnat-type flies, but I don't know whether or not drain flies are attracted to light. Light is the primary attraction method for this trap.
