I love this soap. I'm a bit of a soap snob. It lathers just right. Not too much, but enough to be good and soapy. The charcoal cleans well, you can feel the little abrasiveness from the bar in your hands. The peppermint smell is great. Leaves your skin feeling super clean, without drying your skin out like some other soaps. I'm hooked on it! Great pricing, several quantity options, lasts a good amount of use. No complaints!

Great soap for controlling oily skin. Lathers well, doesn’t strip and has no strong scent

First off there really is no SCENT to this soap, nor is it intended to have a fragrance. What you are smelling is the mint and hemp that's in it. It will not last on your skin for more than a few minutes after a good rinsing, so if you are buying a soap to smell good or fragrant, this is NOT it. No the soap bubbles are not black or grey, they are white. What this soap DOES do is CLEAN and detoxify. I have very sensitive and combo (more dry than oily but still oily in typical places) skin, if anyone is going to have a reaction, I will. (Points at BEEKMAN 1802 and their supposedly chemical-free soaps that are just a "selling mass-produced snake oil scam! AND POISON! ITCH SCRATCH and vomit from stench of their SUPPOSEDLY natural soaps!) I started with Grampa's buttermilk which is just a fabulous all over and facial bar. Softens does not strip your skin at all. But for my face, or after gardening, even for dirty feets (or if you believe that charcoal draws toxins out of the body) this soap is GREAT. Leaves my skin SQUEAKY CLEAN and no residue. Nice little mint scent while using but as mentioned, does not last. A SLIGHT....not even worth mentioning tingle while using the first couple times. AND...if you use in your pits, well...you will find that you can go without or reduce using deodorant, that's a nice plus in my book. And if you want to use a fragrant soap, well I do at times...I just wash twice..first with Granpa's for cleansing all over, then with the smell good soaps on arms and legs only, that do have more chemicals in then than I want, but sometimes we just want to smell extra good. I have tried MANY of Grandpas soaps, and a couple shampoos and conditioners and I love them, especially the charcol and buttermilk. Just keep in mind you are buying NATURAL STUFF for CLEANING and improving your skin that's bad- chemical-free...you are NOT buying something for its SMELL GOOD factor. Thank you Grandpa, and the ladies that continue the tradition of this soapmaking. I wish you would do goat milk!

At first I did not like the overpowering mint smell, I thought it smelled too much like toothpaste, but it has grown on me and I actually like it now. I think this charcoal soap feels better and does a better job at cleaning than the pine tar soap. The bar doesn’t completely melt away after a week like most other fancy soaps.

This charcoal bar soap does a great job at making my skin feel fresh and deeply cleansed. It’s got a slightly gritty texture that exfoliates without feeling harsh, and it really helps cut through grime and oil. The scent is subtle and clean—not overpowering. I took off one star only because it dissolves a little faster than I’d like and a little drying. Still, it’s a solid go-to for anyone wanting a no-nonsense, skin-refreshing bar.

I use the charcoal and pine tar. They both smell heavenly. Pine tar reminds me of leather and is a little more masculine, but I still love it as a woman. The charcoal smells like lavender to me. It has charcoal in it. So, it's nice and exfoliating. I feel so clean when I use this soap. Great for sensitive skin!!

Awesome! My husband loves the Scent and the ingredients are great. Have a subscription so we never run out. Makes you feel really clean.

First discovered these during a weekend at the Vermont Country Store and have been obsessed ever since. These soaps are a must in my shower. They exfoliate gently, have a mild scent and make the skin feel extra "clean" (meaning compared to regular soap, there's no soapy feeling or residue like feel) this soap comes off with none of that. So after the shower, your skin feels "lighter" and it feels like your skin absorbs the body lotion or cream you lather on more than usual (even deodorant). I don't use this every day because it dried my skin when I used it daily, but I found that using it once or twice a week to "reset" (detoxify) my skin worked best and it really does feel so clean afterwards.
